im sure actual numbers are negligible but I have 17 and 21 UWs and the 21 is definitely bigger at address than my 17. I’m sure it’s mainly because you see way more loft on it that makes appear bigger but in reality I bet it’s only ~10-12cc bigger

2 hours ago, smithjohnjr said:

No - the 21 is slightly larger - wider from front to back than the 19.  Those are the 2 I have - cant tell you about 17-19 sorry

Interesting.  Usually clubhead sizes get smaller with higher lofted clubs.  Think 3 wood vs 7 wood.

Thank you both for confirming!

I have a question regarding shaft I just picked up one of the 19 second hand and I want to put a ventus black in as that is a good fit for me in most fairways. If I pick one up second hand how much of the tip is covered by inserting it. Also if I am looking for it to play standard length (41.5) what length of second hand shaft should I buy?

don't quote me exactly on this but I believe it was around 1.25”. However regarding your second question be careful on that one cause just because you find the correct length of a second hand shaft you have to consider how much of that shaft is tipped if any. Most second hand shaft in that length will be tipped. Conversely you can buy a driver shaft length and tip it and cut it to length then install it.

Considering a 17 degree to replace my 3 wood, which i like off tee but don't always have the confidence with off the deck.

I like the hybrids that are more compact, that you can hit down on. Im gaming the 19.5 Sim Rescue, which i hit down on for a penetrating flight.

How is the Apex UW best played? Can you hit down on it, or does it work better with a more level/sweeping strike?

I'm undecided between them. I have a Mavrik 22 3 wood, and the UW 17 both with stock shafts, and it's a toss up. I find the 3 wood a tad more forgiving off the tee and easier to hit in general, but the UW is a wee bit better off the fairway.

What I like about the UW though is that it doesn't want to go left as much as the 3 wood and there are a couple of holes on my home course where going left is OB into a farmers field, and I've donated way too many balls to him.

Of course, this is my experience and yours may vary.

Can't say to certainty as I play a 19* under a 15* Rogue LS (which is the FW I've had the most success with in a very long time), but my best guess is that the 17* UW wouldn't quite keep up with a traditional 3 wood set-up when you hit both on the screws. However, I would venture that all but the best fairway wood strikers would see a greater measure of consistency from the UW. Whether that would be a compelling argument to do the UW or not would be up to each individual, but consistency is something I really encourage players to give greater heed to in the fitting process rather than just the high end of what something can do when struck perfectly.

While I do hit my Rogue LS extremely well, if you took it from me and made me play a 17* UW instead I wouldn't be overly fussed.

Seeing all the pro's WITB recently its really cool to see the UW adopted so widely. Really is a good club and not just a gimmick. Lots of clubs come and go and never see the inside of a bag from Thurs-Sun but the Apex UW is really shining.

Will be interesting to see if any of the other major OEM's decide to come out with something similar in the next couple cycles. Particularly when you consider that it was not a February release and really wasn't pushed very hard in advertising, the response to it has been incredible. It's VERY rare for me to put one in a player's hand during a fitting and not have them walk away with at least one ordered. Works for a very wide speed and skill set range. For the player that likes their hybrids but wants more speed and height, the UW offers that. For the players that likes their fairway woods but wants more control and consistency, the UW offers that too.

2 rounds in and 2 range sessions on my UW 21* with Diamana ZF.  It’s such a great club to hit that I just picked up a lightly used 17* that will be getting reshafted with a Tour AD TP.

I play the 21* at 40.25” and plan to play the 17* at 41.25” with my 3w at 42.25”.

May just drop the fairway and just carry the 17* and 21* UW but I’ll reserve that decision until I actually can hit them together.

If I understand this thread correctly, as a 5w replacement (F6 Baffler 18*, 1/2 short @ 41.25"), I should be looking at a stock 21* head as a starting point? Looking for something about 225-230 carry as a fairway finder or a second shot into par 5s.

For those that play multiple UW’s…

What is you distance gap between the 17* to 19* to 21*?

Also difference in playing length between if something other than stock  length.

I play my 21* at 40.25” or 1/4” short and planning on playing my 17* at 41.25” or 1/4” short.

Toying with the idea of getting a 19* to play at 40.75” which would be 3/4” short but 1/2” longer than the 21* and 1/2” shorter than the 17*.

Several range session and couple rounds with the UW 21 with stock smoke RDX shaft, this club is money.  I can hit it low, high, draw and a baby fade.  Like you, just bought a 17 shafted with Tour AD TP, hopefully getting it this weekend.

I play TS2 4 wood at 16.5 with AD TP that is at 42" length since it released and it also being the hardest club to improve and replace in my bag.   If I can just get a little bit more distance and little bit more consistency off the deck, I will be super happy.

I’m about 103 mph with driver and hit my 21* around 210.  So the 17* may be perfect.

Have a Titleist TSi2 5w turned down to 17.25* at 42” that plays to 230 if I get all of it that the UW 17* May replace if I can get 225 out of it on a reasonable swing

Would the 21 degree be equivalent to a 4 pro hybrid?  I'm playing the LS 5 wood to mp 20mb 5 blade.  I currently using a ts200 4 iron with matching iron shaft.  Worried it will go to far for the gap.

Are you saying you’re replacing the Baffler or adding to it?  Personally I feel like the Baffler was the first UW on the market. A great club I shouldn’t have gotten rid of 😢
