Turbulators: Mount Up (G400 Max)

This is the time of the year when we (Team G400 Max) gets inundated with the newest version of OEM's drivers and the small (if any) incremental gains to be had.  Just remember: the G400 Max is a GOAT-type driver that most OEMs (including PING) would be thrilled to roll out in 2022 if they could.  That is all.

But i did replace it with the Mavrik, which has been one of my favorite drivers of the last 10 or so years

I have had my 400 max for 4 years and love everything about it! But I am so tempted to hit the 425 max and I know if it was 2 yards longer I would buy it. I am so weak I would drop 500 bucks for 2 yards guess I am on the right forum.

If PING just painted it a different color and called it something like ""Super Extreme" without changing anything I bet it would still outrank a LOT of newer variants. PING really nailed this one. Newer is NOT necessarily better, as I found out when I adopted G410+ as my everyday gamer. Not bad at all but nothing in terms of real improvement over G400!. Sometimes the sequel just isn't as good as the original movie!

I liked mine a lot all last season, but lately it's turned on me. Everything is left left left. Can't find the middle of the face 60% of the time and when I do, seems to spin way too much. Costs me 30+ yards. Most likely an off-season swing flaw. Still, I'm probably going to get fit in the next few months to see if I can find something a bit better/more consistent for my game.

This is the stuff I don't understand...  you liked it last season, you admit an off-season swing flaw has crept into your game and now its the clubs fault ?

Putters are the only things that turn on you btw.  \sarcasm\👍

Similar here as well.. I "picked up" a few G400 items.. 

 

G400 3/14.5°, 5/17.5°, SFT 3/16°, 2/17° and 3/19° hybrids.. Most likely the 3 & 5 woods won't make the cut, I prefer a higher lofted fairway.. and one of the hybrids is going to be redundant..

Don't do it! I LOVED my G400 Max. I regret selling it to this day. I like the G410 Plus...but don't love it like the G400 Max.  I foolishly bought into the hype that the G425 was the best of both worlds. It didn't perform and had a horrible clangy sound to it. I'm normally not picky about the sound of a driver....but it was bad. And it wasn't nearly as forgiving as the G400 Max and G410 Plus.  It looked great though.

Every time I stray away from Ping drivers I always find myself quickly coming back. I liked the 400 Max, but definitely loved the 400 LST (regretted selling) and the 410 LST is my current gamer.

 

Pumped that I just recently picked up another 400 LST head, so I know I will always have that waiting in the wings if the 410 starts acting up. 

 

Never been tempted by the 425s, which is just fine for me and my wallet 😀

I have been gaming the 400 Max for years.  Bought the 410 and the 425.  They have both been donated to my boys and are in their bags.  Nothing can beat the consistency of this club!

This is just me. But, I hit a few left and then I realized I was swaying. Tightened the turn a little and started hitting it nice again.

 

g400 LST with the AD IZ 6X, before that I had 915 D3 with AD MJ 6x I think I probably lost a few yards, but I find the fairway more often.

I was never fit for it to begin with. Blind purchase based on reviews, so curiosity about what is best for me is all.

As I have said earlier I have had my 400 max for 4 years it is set at 10.5. I have not messed with the settings at all. My question is should I try turning it down to 9? It has been so good I have been afraid to mess with it.

It's worth seeing what's out there. But IMO, be just know what you have with the G400 Max. Other drivers may be a bit longer longer. Other drivers may feel good for a session. But nothing has come as close to throw it in the bag and forget about consistency as the G400 Max.  The occasional 5-8 extra yards isn't worth being in the fairway more often. I know we all know that.  But we are golfers. We all get intoxicated by the same things when we demo something new, lol.

I keep buying low spin “backups” but Theres zero point in doing this. Club C, money match, Sunday league- the Max ALWAYS gets the call. Set it and forget it. It’s getting regripped and I’m playing it till the face caves in.

Yeah, I certainly understand that. I used my 5 wood almost exclusively off the tee yesterday and did just fine. Anywhere in the fairway is better than the rough. Still curious about the fitting. The place I'm planning on going (1.50 Golf in Gulf Shores, AL) isn't known for pressure sales. They will straight up tell you if what you have is the best for you. My buddy went in for a SIM2 last year to upgrade from his M3. No significant difference between the two. Fitter told him to save his money. I won't get a new driver unless it's really something special. Certainly not at >$500.

 

I do think I may be in the wrong flex as well. I'm playing the Alta CB regular. May need to go down a flex, but we'll see. I've never really checked my swing speed on a LM. Average drive is 220-230 with a smooth swing.
