What grounds do they have to "ban" past champions?  Because they don't play on the PGAT anymore?  I thought we established the Masters wasn't affiliated with the PGAT.... It would be a bad look for AGNC imo.... those jackets were rightfully earned, no matter who won them.

LOL!......On the grounds that all the Major Tournaments will site or should site "Team54 Exhibition Series is not good for the game of golf"  ........IMO

Totally not in good standing with any tour......which will become a criteria.

Some news I heard over the last week

-Cantlay was offered 80 milllion, turned it down

-Either his people or Cantlay said a deal could be agreed if Xander was in to join

-Cam Smith and a few other Aussies will apparently be joining after the Presidents Cup. That’s when the 💩 will hit the fan.

Throw in sponsors are grumbling about pulling out over here for 2023. LIV and PGA will have to work together.

And if the defending champion is not allowed to play? Of course it looses relevance. I have said many times, these tournaments have every interest to make sure the best golfers are playing and they are putting on the best tournament possible even if it upsets you to invite DJ, and Reed.  You think the best golfers don't want to competing against ALL the best golfers, and just some of them? Ask Rory, he will tell you the same thing. If Cam goes to LIV as rumored, he still will be playing all the majors net year, count on it.

If you're playing Exhibition golf for the Saudi golf league you are not one of the best.

If Cam Smith choose to end his career by playing Exhibition team golf.....he may or may not be grandfathered in as far as his exemptions are concerned but if any change their criteria Smith will be SOL......

If you are unfortunate enough to live and work in that country and are not a member of the Saud family, not only doesn't the family not care what you think, the Sauds will tell you what to think. And since when has the Saud family ever had to try to impress anyone? 'They move slow, and that's because they don't have to move for anybody.'

In case you're wondering, the Saud family as a whole is worth approximately $1.5 Trillion. That's Trillion, with a capital "Tr".

More than likely a family member got tired of listening to a pal from a lesser family, probably one of the Al Maktoums, brag about hosting their fancy golf tournament and meeting Tiger and Rory. The Saud family member then hatched this plan, and thought to himself, 'wait 'til you get a load of us.'

They care absolutely zero about what anybody thinks of them. If you're a Saud, all others need to work to impress you. Not the other way around.

But Gregory says they have a plan, man … They not just throwing money because it’s amusing and they might wash some blood off … they got a plan, man … Done thought this thing through for the sake of golf…

This is what the current PGA Tour "demographic" is having a hard time grasping.  There's a world market that consumes entertainment in completely different ways than even 5 years ago, and it's moving faster every day.

Never thought Chubby Chandler and I would agree on something but this is exactly how I feel about GN as the CEO of LIV.  LIV needs a better diplomat than what GN can bring to the table.

A significant issue, according to Chandler, is Greg Norman, the figurehead chosen as the face of LIV Golf.

“Greg is the wrong person. He has too much of an ego. He’s too abrasive, too arrogant. He struts about like he owns the place..."

PGA Tour and LIV Golf need a resolution or golf will implode ‘within weeks’, says super-agent Chubby Chandler

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Looks like LIV is having a hard time putting together the all star AUS team they want.  Current members of Punch (team AUS) aren't the stars you want out of the country down under.  If you think the players are going to end up being Smith, Scott, Day and Leish it might be coming down to who will be the captain that gets 25% ownership of the team.

Teams that I think don't have a captain that is set in stone are Punch, Cleeks and Torque.  Torque will likely end up with Hideki as the captain but that day may or may not come.  The Cleeks are having an identity crisis with a German captain, a couple of players from Africa and a US journeyman.

If I'm looking at the value of each team it's probably a toss up between Bryson's Crushers and DJ's 4Aces.  When the new Crushers team is announced with Bryson, Paul Casey and one or two new players I think their value goes up.

 I thought this was @Ferguson for a minute! 🤣

Well, yes, he is. He gets absolutely nothing with Liv because there’s no room for people who finish 69th. And it doesn’t cost players $10k to travel to a tournament. It doesn’t even cost half that. It’s not a major and they’re not renting a house.

I will quote @BlackDiamondPar5   trolling ignorance is not a good look.....

You were not the only one to squawk at the comment but since public school math is not is good in this thread apparently......

$14,700... minus 40% (min) for taxes since the player pays FED, state tax where they live AND pays taxes in the state the event is played in.  That is the same fo MLB, NFL, NHL..etc,

Leaves $8,820 minus 10% for caddie ... $7,350 now.  You still have airline, rental car, room, food, etc for 6 days min if they make the cut and show up on Monday. 7 days if they come in on Sunday.  Per articles a PGAT low level pro averages about $3,000 a week in expense, so now down to $4,350.00....... which adds up to $10,350.00 for the weekend so yes it IS right around $10K a week for most of them.

$4,350 a week is pretty decent to most but for what they go through well that is the debate.

Sadly there is SOOOO many threads about the cost they have and the way inflation is right now it is probably worse as the PGAT prize money has not changed for years until all this LIV stuff.

Actually pretty sure  WRX (I think) had a really good article on the woman of the LGPT and how much worse it is since the prize purses are soooo low compared to the PGAT.    The article stated that most LPGT woman loose money and if not for some outside sponsors, family, friends, etc they would be negative every year.

Yes, the problem in this thread is the "LIV supporters".....  LOL

This is getting a little crazy now when just simply just switching leagues immediately diminishes your talent and skill.  I just hope this is one of those moments where humor is lost over text conversation...

Inside the PGA Tour’s Washington lobbying effort against the Saudi-funded LIV golf league

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/21/inside-the-pga-tours-lobbying-effort-against-saudi-funded-liv-golf.html

Good post, had no idea they had been doing that, though it is a bit sad.

Been going to Washington, asking for help, they set up meeting and the PGAT said NO?   That makes them look very petty.  They had a chance and said "no it is my sandbox....."

Think about it we could of had 8 MEGA events had they sat down together. Maybe since GN is a dumbazz at times.  We could of had 8 more Player Championship type fields but maybe at other amazing courses around the world.

I would love to see one back in AUS, play Kinston Heath again where Tiger won.  *Heck any in the sand belt as all are amazing.

We don't agree on a lot of post at it relates to PGAT/LIV @BlackDiamondPar5 but cant tell me that would not have been awesome for the game of golf and the PGAT would get to slap their name all over it.

The recent article that the LGPT commish would take the call from Saudi in a instant...she called it "a Mic drop".  That should tell you more on how bad they want to get more $$ to their players.  Right now pretty sure Saudi's sponsor 6 or 7 events that are the largest paying ones for the LPGT.

One day maybe everyone will see who is really after the money......

So talking with our head pro this weekend on something.  I guess last week a few Titleist guys where out playing. *Hope they charged them 🤣

They got talking and one of the reps said a number of players are waiting until year end.  Mentioned it being more the Fedex Cup reason since there is decent $$$ in those events at year end and not far out now.

Guess we will see if they players go or not, either way it is a mess as it sits..........

Weird that the PGAT would choose to use 9/11 as leverage at this point of the game........ I find the timing of this despicable in it's own right and a bit disingenuous after allowing exemptions for players for years.  This really has nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with the fact that, unfortunately, the PGAT can not (and knows it) compete with this league's presence.

And yet over 50 % of the top rated "tv shows" last year, were NFL games.

The NFC Championship game in January had over 50 million views. They have actually cut down on commercial breaks.

So, the PGA Tour hires lobbyists to lobby lawmakers who get a proposal from the Prez. Administration to have a meeting with the Saudi's and the PGA Tour says "No!".

What exactly did the PGA Tour expect for it's lobbying efforts?

"Lobbying efforts last year prompted Biden advisors to propose a sit-down meeting between a PGA Tour representative and Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.S., Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, to discuss the Saudi-financed golf league, according to one of the people with knowledge of the effort."

"The PGA Tour declined to have the meeting because tour officials didn’t believe it would result in much of a course correction by the Saudis, this person said. This person declined to be named in order to speak freely about private conversations."

That’s the opposite of the reality.

Without US protection, the Saudi Iran proxy wars become much hotter and may spill to direct conflict. The alternative “big brothers” would be Russia or China and both are aligned already with Iran.

In tandem with necessary political alliance with the west, there’s only so much they can push an isolated cultural existence hence the sportswashing.

The investments in Soccer F1 and golf are exactly because they “care” and need to “impress” the West.

MBS, relatively speaking, is pushing reforms, unprecedented to the kingdom, toward more secular policy.

So, it’s essential that the investments yield positive political/media returns.

Exactly.  I read this after writing my reply.  I could have saved myself some keystrokes.
