Although I must say that ANGC is my biggest hope for not bending to the PGAT. I thought it would have been the R&A, but Mr. Slumbers made it pretty clear that they are searching for a way to keep LIV players out by changing the qualifying criteria, even for former champions. Until now, we haven't heard anything like this form ANGC.

I'm oldish at 47, and I likely watch more YT than anything else now.  I subscribe to a few dozen different channels, from golf content, cocktail making, coffee geeks, car reviews, vintage car tech stuff, cooking shows etc.  It is pretty common for me to have a handful of videos to watch each day.  I've had the YT app on our newer TV for a few years, so watching anything YT is no more different than watching CBS.

 

You can really tell that people bitching about LIV being on YT and not a real channel, are a bit behind the times. 

 

And with respect to golf content on YT, some of the best content is when a couple different creators team up for some 18 hole match play.  Six holes on Finchy's channel, six on Fryers, six on Shiels.  Fun banter, talking thru shots, match play or scramble formats.  Actually having fun with golf, and often doing team events.  The idea that golf has to be 18 holes stroke play on a network channel with three talking heads in the booth baffles me.  That is some of the least interesting golf I'll watch during the week.

What type of pipe does someone have to be smoking to believe a LIV team is worth a billion dollars? The freaking Ferrari F1 team, the FERRARI F1 Scuderia that has been around for 50+ years winning championships and competing in the highest stage is only worth about two billion. Not to mention they have actual assets in place. Red Bull is worth around a billion. 
 

That LIV number is totally absurd.

LIV does not even have a stretch. It is one of the big misses of the format, no drama at the end. The end just happens.

I sure hope you are exaggerating or you kids live on some remote island. Yes teens don't flock to those things, but they aren't complete idiots. My teens, know what a record player is, listen to FM and AM radio in the car and even know there used to be rotary phones, TV that did have a flat screen or remote controls etc.

It's an opinion shared by many.....most are on the back 9 of their careers or coming off injuries that prevent them from being competitive on the Pgatour.....

 

To deny that is either naïve or foolish.....

 

It's an honest assessment as to what I'm seeing. If you enjoy team golf that's your choice but the depth of talent, there is lacking IMO

Unrelated, but related...what really annoyed me during Sky's coverage of the Open was that a couple of the presenters referred to it as a PGA Tour event!!

 

I'm not sure if McGinlay is on the PGA Tour payroll, but it definitely sounds like it.

So I'm not surprised you completely missed the point, which is the PGA Tour made a terrible decision to suspend players when you and everyone else knows they aren't playing these tournaments anyway.

 

You just can't get passed that the players aren't the villains and it's two competing tours having a battle.  And the PGA Tour is as much responsible, and should be held accountable, for losing players as the LIV Tour is for taking them.

LIV would need to show it has an anti-doping testing policy with blood tests for substances based by WADA

 

I can’t imagine that would be an issue to comply with given the resources.

The OWGR are totally irrelevant at this point in the conversation, not that they have ever been properly representative anyway...Ryder Cup has shown that for years.

 

I'll be honest, I'm at the stage where pro golf had stopped being watchable apart from the Open and the Augusta Masters.  Watching the LIV livestream, is somewhat refreshing in that you are seeing some of the worlds best players (regardless of ranking) hitting lots of good golf shots...no adverts, no over-hyped commentary and for free.

 

Do I care about who wins? Not really, I just enjoy watching good golf shots no matter who is playing them, even my opponent in a match. Pro golf coverage is so bad that you don't see any good shots being hit anymore, unless you think hitting a drive 360 yards 60 yards offline is a good shot (that's another debate).

 

I have no side in this, but one thing is certain, the pro golf landscape has changed and there's no going back.

 

What is needed is a world governing body working together for the good of the game, not the disjointed mess that we have always had. Now is a good time for a reset looking at all aspects of the game including the distance debate and the impact of modern equipment. The stewardship of the game has been influenced too much by lobbying from the manufacturers, players, sponsors, et al and needs to take a look at itself and get a grip.
