Well if you look at the multiple articles on fans favorite golfers and most marketable golfers and golfers who bring in money, liv has all of the highest grossing stars besides Rory and speith. Phil and bubba are in the top 3.

Good point!  you sign guys and they could stink. The Yankees have had terrible luck with that. Like with that guy Youklis!

 

But generally in those sports, practice is very regimented every day. You got a manager and coaches on you. And you’re always practicing and traveling with the team.

 

I mean, Phil sign for 200MM like their biggest draw…and take off week before big event and go hang out with gorillas 🤣 

 

I just think some liv guys will seriously go on cruise control with no pressure to make a check.

Yes all are involved now but it was solely an R&A's system for The Open... nothing more.

 

The R&A championship committee founded the basis for the OWGR in 1980. They had a system prior but felt it was "flawed" according to them.  It was only used for The Open players selection, no other events. ZERO.   It was not even published until 1986 when they were letting everyone know how they selected players.  It was only made as the committee felt they were "omitting top players"  based on all the different tours.

 

At the time all the players (World wide) were splitting time between all the different tours. Not like it is today. The PGAT was nothing like it is. At least not until Tiger and $$$ he brought in.

 

When the R&A published its rankings openly the first time right before the Masters in 1986.....YEA the PGAT and players had some serious issues with it.  Research, they called it false, not accurate, etc.   

 

Bottom line now is  the PGAT wants to use it to save them per se.  When they had nothing to do with it to start with and criticized it to start.  AS one of the primary bodies in golf it makes 100% sense to have them on it.  Granted In the beginning it was a heavy debate for a long time, it changed so many times in the 90's people just gave up on on the rankings LOL.

 

The sad part now is all the crap over OWGR, etc.  Using it like a weapon now.   If you like/love golf you should know the history. I mean is that NOT what all the governing bodies say they are trying to do, protect the history of the game?   

 

It was created for a great reason. So the R&A could do the invitations correctly because everyone was on different tours.... to make sure we as fans got to see the best players play in one the best golf events on the planet.....

 

It just shows how far this has all fallen and "control" is all this is about...........

Never win it.... Tiger SHOT that down with Tim F way back in the day.  He had issues on how the PGAT was marketing him, his brand and that all changed.  As all have noted the PGAT does NOT own "its" players...... No clue on LIV contract side.

Hahahaha that is a statement 🤣.  You solely basing it off the current OWGR Rankings and not actual events. The OPEN showed they all can play, players are players.  PGAT, EURO, AUS, LIV.... if you can play....you can play.....and anyone who really plays golf knows that is a fact.

Nothing you just posted negates anything i said. Berger withdrawing from a tournament because of injury isnt the same thing as a legit rumor from a credible source. Were talking golf insiders/writers rumors but you knew that already. lots of players tweeting out denials. Spieth did too and he was never rumored...

So as i said we'll come back here in the fall and see where we stand but i doubt you will

If LIV is so revolutionary why is anyone waiting at all? Does the PGA Tour in fact actually have something to offer? The playoffs didn’t seem to matter to the guys that are already there so what incentive is there to wait? Cam turns down an offer for 150, or Hideki turns down 400 just to maybe, perhaps win 15 in two months? Doesn’t make any sense.

I agree. I think it was better when the Euro tour was strong. They've bended the knee and accepted tier 2 status along with the KF tour. 

The world market is largely untapped as far as golf is concerned. Asia is golf crazy for men's and women's golf. LiV has the opportunity to create a decent world tour if they bolster the Asian tour and raise the quality

In all seriousness, Phil might spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder. A few more months of shooting a million and getting heckled is going to get old fast and he’s going to say something stupid about LIV. We don’t know cam or matsuyama  turned it down, neither do we know if Scott or leishman or cantlay turned anything down either. They have all been quiet or deflective. Speculation says they will be coming over for 2023 so we will see. Bubba is not starting right away, so it is reasonable to think that the contracts are already signed starting Jan 1. We don’t know. Could be announced after fedex as the rumors by creditable sources have predicted.

 

imo, I don’t think liv expected as many golfers to come over so soon. If those 5 do come over, who gets kicked out of the 48? Maybe they are being respectful to the pga tour and finishing out their seasonal commitments?

I suspect Greg is allowed to up the offer tremendously for the top players he wants. Scheffler would be the most likely to make the move, with McIlroy and Thomas both much harder to convince I think. Morikawa would probably make the move with enough offered him. Spieth is definitely a possibility, especially if Scottie goes. 

 

If you talked with some of Scottie Scheffler's playing buddies and the guys in the pro shop at Royal Oaks CC you'd learn that Scottie is really feeling the pressure and genuinely stressed out about it. 

 

I think Justin is in a different category because of his dad's PGA connection.  McIlroy would probably need what Tiger was offered to seriously consider it.

Right, and Ricky Fowler was in the top 10 in 2018. What's your POINT?

 

Phil won the PGA Championship in 2021 but can barely break 80 in 2022.
