Smoke a pipe while golfing? Where to rest it during shots?

Recommended Posts

Maybe see if a cigar holder could be modified to work for your pipe.

Anyone smoke a pipe while golfing? If you don't want to have it in mouth while swinging full shots where do you put it down? Is there some overpriced tool out there to rest pipe on while swinging?

That might be something you want to invent and make sure to sell it at an overpriced level...

I'd look at a special pipe for golfing; find one that's broad across the bottom so you can set it on the ground while hitting shots.

I've smoked a pipe but most of the bowls are so rounded they would tip over if I set them on the ground.

I would not want to set anything on the ground on a golf course and then put it in or near my mouth.

Ah, but the chemicals (and sunflower seeds and goose poop and spit) would negate the bad pipe breath.

divot tool with a notch in it should work.

they’re meant to keep your grips off the wet ground, but i think if you set the bowl on the ground and rest the mouthpiece in the notch (are we not doing phrasing anymore?) then your pipe will stay upright

When I was in college, my roommate, who introduced me to golf, asked if I wanted to volunteer at his dad's work's tournament.  I'd played maybe twice with my roommate at this point, so I knew nothing about golf.  They had us set up on a par 3, and all we had to do is hand out beer, and answer the same question each group asked.  They'd ask for the distance, and I was told to tell them it was (I forget the actual numbers, but let's say) 160 playing 180.  I didn't understand at the time, but I'd imagine the green was elevated or maybe they were hitting into wind.  There were two things I'll never forget from that day.  First, this dude who was literally stumbling and slurring his words walked over, asked for a beer and the distance.  I think he failed to put his ball on a tee the first three times he tried, and somehow he stuck it to maybe 10 feet.  There was also an old man playing.  I'd estimate he was in his mid 70s.  He was puffing on a pipe, but when it was his turn to tee off, he just tucked the stem into his back pocket, bowl exposed and facing away from his pants, and then swung.  Then he immediately pulled the pipe back out and kept puffing away.

I don't have anything to offer aside from stating this subject is outstanding.

Yeah…but for some reason I’m thinking the title needs fixing….

Shouldn't it be “Smoke a pipe whilst golfing?  “While” doesn’t sound like proper English old chap. 🥸

If I don't have time to pre roll, Ill hit bowls on the course, usually set my pipe in the little compartment on my push cart.

Ditto.

I have a flat bottomed pipe for that and I glued a piece of cork sheet to the underside of the compartment lid so it puts the pipe out whilst in there.

I wish I could find a pipe with a built in lid so I could cover it and put it out after a few puffs.   To be relit a few holes later.

Why not purchase a cover for your pipe like this one: https://www.smokingpipes.com/accessories/pipe-tampers-and-tools/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=131857
