Could Tiger be done?

Yes, training protocols. Look at Tiger's legs. He was never meant to be a 200lb athlete. His knees and back are proof that his frame couldn't handle the weight. A good personal trainer would have stopped the bulking at 185/190 and replaced the endless running with biking/elliptical/swimming. Tiger is still the GOAT, I'm just of the opinion that he'd have 20 majors and 100 wins had he been smarter about his training. You're free to disagree.

Also, Rory's best came when he won The Open, WGC Bridgestone, and PGA back to back to back in 2014. He already lost the baby fat by that point.

Tigers style of play and reckless attitude about his injuries contributed more to his knee/back issues than putting on a few pounds of muscle every year

I wouldn’t be surprised if he ignored the suggested “protocols” geared toward functional training focused on golf, because he just wanted to lift and improve his physique from a “vanity” standpoint.

I agree with those of you who say that TW could have used better  advice on which path to go when he went into his brief "Hulk" mode, whoever said TW was never built to be a 195-200 lb athlete is exactly right. I saw him up close in high school and went to many of his matches, he was always a tall skinny kid that could generate tremendous clubhead speed with steel shafts..He was scary long then with a Titleist balata before the introduction of the ProV1....

I understand him wanting to " be like Mike"...but IMO he got lead down the wrong long term path and he didnt need to...Yes he needed stamina, yes he needed strength, but he also needed proper recovery and core exercises to keep the torque he put on his back from long term issues

In 2023 Tiger Woods returns to unexpected form and sees himself win come (fused) back player of the year with 1 major and 2 wins including the PNC with Charlie. His revamped training regiment with the Navy Seals and reunion with Butch brings both leg stamina and a sharpened short-game reminiscent of the early 2000s. His trusty fairway finding cut coupled with laser irons and ice baths turns back the clock of father time giving fans one last show before his PGA career winds down. He dabbles in the Champions Tour with a handful of wins riding around in a cart before becoming PGA tour commissioner.

Whoever said that prime Tiger wouldn’t lap today’s competition earlier in the thread has no idea how good he was.

There’s a stat called stroke differential field average, which is how lower or higher a player scores compared to the field they are playing against on a given round, tournament, or season.

Only 5 times since the stat started in 1993 has a player averaged over 3 strokes better than the field average over a season and all 5 belongs to Tiger. Actually, he did it 6 times if you count 2008.

Has today’s competition gotten better since then? Yes. But would they stop prime Tiger by beating them all by more than 3 strokes? Heck no!

In my opinion, today's competition would reduce Tiger's total PGA Tour wins but not his majors. Unless, of course, the rival tour keeps taking away more and more players, then maybe prime Tiger would win even more.

Probably does not change much, none of the depth today exists without Tiger raising the bar and inspiring the stars of today. (like Jack did for him and many other players of Tigers vintage)

It's easy to say he needed better council in terms of his physical fitness however that field has advanced drastically in the past 20 years, no pain no gain was a legit mantra back in Tigers days.

Same with training on (sim's) , the guys today get the benefit of teaching tech, Tiger clearly knew how to take advantage of technology (think he was one of the first to game a 4 layer ball) and I believe he would be an early adopter of instruction tech, squeezing more out of his game if he was part of this era.

End of the day Tiger was better because he believed he was better and that probably doesn't really change no matter what era you put him in.

I saw him play in the practice round at the Open. He went out and played 4 holes and struggled to walk across the bridge on 18 to get his picture made. He may still show up and give an honest attempt, but winning anything other than the father/son in the future is just wishful thinking sadly.

Brandel tweeting confidence around Tiger's recent swings at exhibition in California, unequivocal evidence the GOAT is back on track for 19 majors and 100 victories. Let's just hope he's not driving while out there (in a vehicle at least).

Wins at Torrey, Augusta, Memorial and Open this year. Oh, and PNC

Time certainly will tell here.  It is entirely possible that with enough physical rehab for his lower body and continued rest, he might be able to win one more time.  Kind of like DL3 at Greenbrier or Stu Cink recently.  I have to imagine the only real roadblock for him is the fact that his right leg has so much non-natural reconstruction.  Because his right leg is used for pushing with the thru swing, hopefully he can rehab specific exercises for it.  Yet, part of me would rather see Tiger go out on his terms and manually retire sooner rather than limping it home at 50.  It's tough to see sport superstars as a shell of themselves via injury

It's not a big deal. The HWC is 7-8 weeks away which is a lot of time and it seems like Tiger operates more on a week to week basis. I think the PNC is guaranteed barring some setback

Not gonna lie, it's discouraging to see him walking worse lately than at the Masters six months ago. Not a great sign.

Who knows with Tiger though. It's possible he's had more surgery and didn't tell anyone.

Tiger will be at the 2023 Masters.

He may be there, but I'd put good money on him not playing all 4 rounds. Watching him only walk 4 holes in a practice round at St Andrews was almost as painful to see as it probably was for him walking. Swinging the club is only part of the battle sadly.

If Tiger could play close to what he did in 2018/2019 I think that would be a win for fans.  2018 was awesome with the win at East Lake and being in contention in the last 2 majors, but I legitimately believe Tiger was a top-5 player in 2019. He beat 3 of the hottest golfers in the world at that time at the Masters (Dustin/Brooks/Molinari), dominated the field at Zozo and went undefeated at the Presidents Cup. Kinda sad to think what 2020 could've been like if he remained healthy and the pandemic never happened (happy he's playing again.)
