Is a 42* PW the strongest on the market? Seems silly to me.

Stealth irons are similar

42 PW and 28 7 iron are a degree weak of a lot of distance focused GI irons

I thought things stabilized around 44-45 (thinking Ping G425/710 type irons). I suppose I haven't been watching very closely the past couple years. I imagine it'll keep going and we'll see quite a few sub 40* PW's then every set will just come with 2 gap wedges. Maybe soon we'll see PW (38), G1 (43), G2 (48), G3 (52), SW (56), LW (60)?

Same lofts and lengths as my Gen4 0311XP.

I just dropped the 5 iron and play 6-GW along with a 54 (bent to 53) and 58 CBX Zipcore wedges.  Easiest set of irons and wedges I have ever played.

Stock loft and length on the 6i is the same as my previous 5 iron and hit them the same distance.  The rest of the set, at stock loft and length, plays to right around 15 yard gaps for me.

I only have 12 clubs in the bag currently with my other clubs as a driver, UW 19 and UW 21.

I wrote my yardages in Black Sharpie on the toe as I get more used to what I hit each club rather than the # on the head.

I was at PXG for something else and my fitter buddy pulled out one of these 7 iron heads and put an X100 in it. I carried it 220 on Trackman. 😄

They do look and feel nice.

Callaway staffer! Of course he's going to spew ignorance...

See above reply. I’m pretty in touch with everything related to the equipment business. I fit clubs for a living. I’d love to work with PXG but they make it very difficult! So yes, maybe I’m a bit sour towards the business model 🙂

I’d love to fit PXG. They won’t give any fitting clubs to green grass accounts.

Also, the worst margins in the biz. But the thing that I can’t stand the most is the lack of price integrity. Bob Changes the price of the clubs too often. I’d be cool if they dropped prices and left them that way….but for years they had promos where clubs would drop in price dramatically for a couple weeks then shoot back up. You know how frustrating that is as someone who fits and sells clubs? My members then are upset when their new clubs are suddenly way cheaper with no notice or reason at all.

Finally, we had way too many build quality issues.

Yes I’m on staff with Callaway but I fit TaylorMade, Titleist, PING, Mizuno, and Cleveland/Srixon/XXIO all fairly. I’d LOVE to fit PXG as they do make some really good product. But from my end of things they are not fun to deal with.

does that help make more sense of my comment?

I thought that PXG's business model included having their own fitting facilities?  If that's the case, then how would you be able to fit to them?

Also, lower margins equals better prices for the consumer.  As a consumer, I'm all for that.

I do wish they would fit side by side with other brands, for a real comparison. At least where I am from they do not.

Correct. They’d often get beat so they won’t do that.

I’m of the believe you should never purchase clubs from a single vendor fitting day. Go somewhere where you can hit everything and compare and the true best club for you will rise to the top. If you are happy paying $89/club for irons and cool with constantly sending equipment back, have at it! Doesn’t sound like an enjoyable experience to me.

I hear the complaints. I feel I understand. However, as a customer, I hope PXG doesn't change their business model. I get clubs as good as anything for cheaper than the competition. If they start giving out fitting clubs to everyone, they'll be the same as every other company. Right now, I can get a full Gen 4 bag deal for $2,300. I can get forged blades for $89 a club; I can get top quality GI clubs for $79/club. I can go straight to PXG if I want to get fit or I can fit myself. It's awesome.

For the record, my standards for clubs are extremely high. Club companies hate dealing with me because I'm always sending stuff back if it isn't exactly what I'm looking for. I've done it with PXG too, but they literally offer everything you could want as a golfer. You can find what you need at prices other companies can't come close to matching.

so @JDSPGA, why would we as consumers want PXG to change?

Hey, if that’s the way you prefer to experience your club purchases who am I to say you are wrong. I have my opinions on what I think works best and of course I’m biased to an outdoor all brands fitting experience. But If the DTC model works for you have at it and enjoy this wonderful game!

im just a bit sour from my experience with PXG and the private club sector

I completely agree, they would struggle in the woods going head to head on grass in non biased fittings, their irons are really good but their shaft upgrade costs and shaft selections are atrocious.  Mizuno would run circles around them w/ their shaft selection on green grass.  The wedges don't have enough grind/bounce options to compete w/ Vokey/Callaway/Taylormade/PING in head to head wedge fittings.

PXG's original niche was being ultra premium.  After the Gen 3 COVID price collapse they became the Sam Walton of golf clubs.  Their niche now is fitting the off the rack customers who have never been fitted before.  It's easy to win out on carry/spin/ball speed/dispersion when you go fit the OTR base since they have an expansive fitter network and nothing in golf pro shop/retail.  Even my club, that is one of the bigger PXG sellers in the country doesn't have PXG on the rack in the shop.
