It was not an issue for the consumer but PXG. What differentiates the playability vs cost. They are starting to get awfully close in feel/sound and why would consumers pay the extra.

Lately, this dude has become a clickbaiting fluffposter. Nonsensical headlines a d thumbnails, taking 10 mins to say and repeat what could've been said in a single sentence.

Anyway, I wish they blended a bit better with the blades. Anyone use them solely as longer irons? If so, how did you blend them?

Went to the PXG Houston store today to pick up a new Staff Bag. Checked these irons out in person and they look pretty sweet. Especially in the Xtreme Dark. If I wasn't so happy with mine I would definitely check them out for sure.

Just watched this video. Looks like they perform really well. A touch lower spin than the XP but higher launch and decent angle. I may have to try them vs my XPs.

I am wondering if I can get a 4 iron, which comes in at 19*, with 1* strong, and use that as a driving iron. It would look a lot less bulky than the actual driving iron and cost a whole lot less, granted the choice of shafts isn't quite the same.

You can do that of course but you would not have a driving iron, you would have a 4 iron bent 1* strong. There is a difference between the two and a reason for that bulky look in the driving irons.

Modern driving irons or driving\utility combo irons are specifically designed as to shape, weight placement and a number of other things which directly impact their performance characteristics. A standard 4 iron is designed to conform to an iron set. The two are simply inherently different.

What you say is true in some instances but there are some iron sets that have long irons with design characteristics similar to a driving iron — hollow heads, low CG, widish soles, thin faces. The 0211 Xcor2 4 iron is not the same as a 0311 T 4 iron.

For some people, and I am one, a standard iron looks better from address off the ground. I don’t care for the bulky soles on most driving irons. In terms of performance, it is often a distinction without a difference — a 20 degree driving iron and a 20 degree 0211 XCor2 might give you the same performance, but you might prefer one over the other. I would not say a driving iron is necessarily a better choice, or an iron from a set, it really depends on the iron and the player. I would rate the 0211 as a good candidate as an option for players who don’t care for driving irons, similar to those who like the Srixon Zx4 or Zx5 more than the Srixon driving irons.

And I would think the another important consideration is whether you are wanting something just to hit off the tee or if you intend on hitting it off the deck too. Not all driving irons are well suited to both, IMO.

Ordered a 0211 XCor2 5 iron to try out as PXG is running free shipping until Labor Day.  Single clubs are typically $30 to ship.

I play Gen4 0311XP 6-GW as the loft and length are basically one club stronger than my previous 2019 0211’s so I dropped the 5 iron from the Gen4’s.

Figured I would see how the XCor2 feels with the cheaper 0211 before thinking of Gen5 irons.

Got a call today from PXG thanking me for my order and giving me a direct contact if I had any further questions.

Nice touch by PXG.

I noticed you have the MMT 80 graphite shafts in your PXG irons.  How do you like them?  How do they compare to any other graphite shafts you might have used in the past?

I like them a lot. I was playing the Accra Tour 90i for a few years and when I went to get new irons they were no longer available due to Covid. So we tried Steelfibers ( hated them ), Recoils ( they were okay ) and then the MMT's. They were pretty much the same as the Accra's. They actually weigh 86 grams so only 4 grams difference in weight. They are very smooth and great dispersion. Been playing them now for almost 5 years.

For reference I am 65 years old in great shape and hit my 7i 165 yards.

Did just that with a Cobra F9 4i. Worked great as a driving iron. As good as the UDI I use to own.

I thought things stabilized around 44-45 (thinking Ping G425/710 type irons). I suppose I haven't been watching very closely the past couple years. I imagine it'll keep going and we'll see quite a few sub 40* PW's then every set will just come with 2 gap wedges. Maybe soon we'll see PW (38), G1 (43), G2 (48), G3 (52), SW (56), LW (60)?

I would say all about choices!  I am sure the person will go with  GW then titliest vokey pro wedges lol

I will tell you, I would not touch steel anymore .. I can launch them low or high depending on ball placement and the little bit of swing. Also Abe answer uses them with miura.
much easy on elbow and wrist
