They're not awful, but they could have done a little better.  I know the engineering will be sound, they'll work and we'll sell a crap ton of them.  I guess that's all that matters.

The Ping engineers are brilliant and have a lot of data to support the reasons for the lofts on their clubs to optimize for ballflights, so this isn’t a loft jacking comment…

 

…but, man, it is getting really hard to compare iron sets.

Just my opinion but those are the best looking Ping wedges in there whole lineup

So essentially you go from a PW to a GW to an AW to a 54 to a 58. As others mentioned above pretty much 2 gap wedges like some of the Callaway and tour edge sets. Not saying it’s a bad thing but if the shaft lengths are also jacked then essentially you gave a new 7i that is really just a 6i etc. 

 

If you loft Jack but keep the shaft lengths conservative then it’d tough for us slower swingers to generate the launch and spin you need to get desired descent angles.

G425 irons are staying in my bag for quite a while as (1) I prefer the look of the G425s and (2) Like having 7 clubs for the 23.5 to 49.5 degree spread (my backup G25s are actually 8 clubs from 23 to 50).

 

I will want to look at some used G425 woods when G430 woods hit the market.

I know the argument is that Ping designs products based on engineering.

 

But isn’t there an engineer, somewhere, that has aesthetic taste?

I have bought a lot of ugly Callaway irons and the terrible miura IC 601 but these are just awful.

I’m not following the guys talking about the stronger lofts? Haven’t the G series PW and UW always been around 45* and 50*?

That 45 deg wedge you see is NOT the PW but the first Gap wedge.  The PW in this set is 41 deg which is very strong.

 

I was told by the guy I get my gear from that the price for graphite is $200 a club.  I don't know if it is rounded up from something like $195-197 but that is what he said!

You’re guy is over charging you then by $15 a club for graphite.

I didn't say that is what he would charg me, he said $200 a club is the MSRP!  Sorry should have specified that is was MSRP price he stated!

  No worries. But that’s not the MSRP either. So that’s what I was trying to say.  If that’s what he’s telling people is MSRP.  Then he’s overcharging.  Which is his right I guess.

Let’s see when more details are released, but I’m guessing that the traditional target market for G irons may have complained that the G425 iron was too similar to an “i” series iron, at least in terms of looks.

For G-series irons, PING lost me after the G25 and G30 lines.  Starting with the G irons, the sound of every iteration after has become louder and the feel is clanky in comparison to the previous versions.  I know that the tech has improved as it always does, but I really don't foresee ever putting them in my bag.

These kind of remind me of 2014 Karstens or K15’s. Like an uglier cousin. The plastic crap in the cavity is brutal. I used to love Ping irons. Not so much anymore.
