Callaway Paradym driver - 2022 QBE Shootout

Recommended Posts

I wish OEM's would admit that these "tour only" heads are intended from the start to find their way into the hands of regular joes who are willing to pay super premium prices to buy them.

The strategy is pretty obvious when you think about the number of pros who are likely to play a specific iteration vs. the number of serious ams willing to pay $900 for supposed unobtanium.

Let's say they have 8 different heads and 75 staff players across various tours. One or two of those 8 versions are only going to fit a few of the staffers. There's no way they bother to create an entirely unique design only to manufacture a dozen of them. They likely make a couple hundred and sell them for 3x the wholesale cost of the main versions.

Because theyre really not. There are some heads you cannot buy at all regardless of who you are. The ones with TA serials that end up on limited runs were made for retail, and sometimes 1-2 other models can be special ordered by like a half dozen accounts across the country - but still there are more that cannot ever be ordered.

I’ve been primarily using YS-5R Nano reloaded. Only other shaft I’ve given time is Fuji pro 2.0 5R. The Fuji felt to one piece, probably the lower torque compared to the YS.

Do you happen to know though if Callaway are using that or a "made for" model which might have different specs please?

As others have said, some of the mitsubishi offers look to be the standout options, so Kalil at no upcharge and BF or ZF at $125 is a great offer if the "blue" profile fits you

So you like shafts with a bit more sensation of impact kick or hinge, it sounds like.

If fitting you, KaiLi Blue 50R would be where I’d start. Might not be where we’d end, but…

I like many will choose between a Stealth 2 Plus or a TD Pardym driver this year.

I currently own a Stealth Plus which I am not a fan of at all. I played a G410 LST and still would had I not cracked the head!

I am 6'3 and the even flatter driver of the Stealth 2 compared to the Stealth is worrying me.

The Callaway adapter, how does. that change the lie angle if at all?

the TD is 57*, Stealth 2 Plus is 54 or 58 and the driver I have liked the best out of any I have ever owned was G410 LST at 57*

He put it much better than I could.  The face just feels incredible.  Yesterday, I hit Stealth + and PTD back-to-back multiple times.  The Stealth felt soft, almost a little squishy in comparison.  I'm not saying it good or bad...just VERY different.  Same specs on each driver.

Going to D on the Callaway adapter takes the lie angle about 2* upright.

Don't overlook the standard Paradym head when making your choice, particularly since you got on well with the 410 LST.

Does anyone know if they will be offering custom colors on this driver?  Seem like a lot of the tour heads are not quite as “blue” as the retail heads.  They are a little more subtle or more black in color.  Looking at the photo of the Triple Diamond S on this thread to me it doesn’t look anything like the retail color.

Correct, they're a very high quality product. MCA chose to produce the three colors of KaiLi (everything softer than TX flex) in very large quantities, which means they can afford to sell them for less which makes them an attractive option for the OEMs.

When you see so many of the OEMs offering the KaiLi as a featured option, that's a very positive sign about the quality and performance.

I do not believe so.  I remember someone commenting on that but can't remember where it was.  I think with all that carbon, it was an issue offering customization on it.

Would be nearly impossible to do in economical fashion. Big difference between offering different colors for paint trim/weight cartridges and different colors of the carbon fiber itself.

Preordered the triple diamond driver and 5 wood that I’ll play as a 4 wood. Numbers were slightly better tho my swing is trash right now.

Had a bunch of gift cards to golf galaxy and bought them for the most WRX reason that it’s my 10th anniversary and the color scheme is the same/similar to my wedding colors haha

Curious but when the TD gets delivered to the customer or the customer takes it off the shelf, is the heavier weight in the front or the back and what are the two stock weights. I ask because most videos i have seen the spin is on the lower side and i was wondering if that's with the weight in the front and not giving a fair representation of how most consumers would want the weight in the back.

If the weight is in the back has any explored with a heavier back weight and if so did you gain enough height or spin back?

Had my first trial run with the drivers and fairways today.  I'll just report on what is important to my eye/swing.  170mph ball speed and a little high spin is typical for me, but I don't always go for the lowest spinning heads:

Driver (standard head) - looks a bit closed to my eye in standard position.  Using the sleeve to get -1 it looks dead square.  Feel was good.  Pretty quickly I could tell this was not for me.  Spin wasn't terrible but it was a very "middle of the road" head.  Probably better for a little slower swing speeds.

Driver (triple diamond) - this thing was money.  And I have not loved the triple diamond heads in the past.  At standard loft it sits dead square, -1 on the sleeve makes it slap open.  I mean if you don't like the left ball, the -1 setting is about as open as it gets.  Tight dispersion and just absolute bullets.

3 wood (standard head) - actually looks very square at address which is not always the case for me.  Performed really nice but didn't have much pop.

3 wood (triple diamond) - at address this thing is a show stopper.  Looks every bit as good as the pictures.  Performance was just as good.....rockets.  This thing was going +20 yards farther than the standard head for me.  If anything it almost went too far.

Shaft - I was hitting the stock Kai'li 70x for all shots.  Felt good in the fairway, no complaints.  Felt a little loose at the bottom on the driver.  Results were really good but my best spin was in the 2800 range (actually not bad for me).  I typically order my drivers -1/2 and that could make this shaft a lot better.

Stock set up for TD goes 14G front, 2G rear off the shelf or to your door.  Folks have been liking switching the weights to gain more spin and a little higher launch.  I def noticed a difference.  Billy Bobs offers weights if you want to dial it in further.
