Plenty of people, pros included, using really soft plastic insert putters like Odyssey's with no distance control issues.

So funny that the marketing around this release talks about learning from the pros and putting that into the new putters.  Spieth and Thomas are playing no tech, basic blades they've had since they were juniors lol.  Never seen a pro using a blade even remotely close to the retail offerings.

Funny u say that bc Thomas’ blade is the exact same as a retail studio select Newport-2, but with a circle-t stamp

 

Obviously the marketing is a bit over the top, but why would tour staffers use a retail SC when they have access to numerous circle-t’s? They wouldn’t. But that doesn’t mean he can’t get insight from pros about certain ideas he may have

It’s all about the milling man. Tour milling stopped after the 2008 Studio Selects.

What do you mean by Tour milling exactly? Because the milling on circle-t’s vary, and I assume it’s often custom to the players’ individual preference

Aren’t there shops that can do aftermarket modifications? I don’t get why people fuss that exactly what they want isn’t off the rack. If it was, then they’d b**** that is off the rack. 
 

I mean, there’s a lot of people that can run a mill and it’s just a hunk of steel. I’ve sent lotsa guns to lotsa gunsmiths and can’t say anyone has ever had to worry about a putter blowing up in there hands. 
 

Maybe I’ll start a puttersmith business.  There it is, “Puttersmith”. In ink, I own it. Now you gotta wait until I retire. Ha!!

Yep. NorCal putters is $350 to basically re-mill and re-finish. Does great work but ultimately you’re in $800 on the putter.

Taking off the back sight line and smoothing it then adding a sight dot is insanely hard it would need to be done by like Flanigan Bilt Golf

Someone posted about Goodwood.  That’s the type of clean, industrial design I’m looking for

Tom Slighter will weld, mill, refinish, etc.. for less than $350, and does a superb job.  And yes, he is still working.

Gotcha, yeah, i do see this pattern quite a bit with circle-t’s. It probably pairs well with GSS and Carbon Steel

No need to spend several grand to get a custom putter, slightly more than retail OTR Scotty but only a couple hundred more.

Should’ve refreshed the California line or the Circa ‘62’s. The 2nd gen California line with first gen milling would’ve been much better. Or just rehash Circa ‘62’s in stainless.

Custom to the extent of PLD-custom or Bettinardi’s custom? That’ll def cost a lot more than $600, but a decent option imo is Toulon’s Garage - which is $600. I’d gladly take a custom Chicago with plumbers/h1 neck, tour silver finish, a sight-dot, and black toulon steel shaft

 

I’m surprised more manufacturers don’t copy Toulon’s Garage concept tbh
