I imagine the low effort retail offerings are thanks to the fact that the brand is so overwhelmingly popular that they can get away with spending the bare minimum on SC year in, year out and still dominate the milled putter market.

Out of the big 4 or 5 OEM’s, only Callaway even tries to compete with them head to head, year in year out. They really compete against the midsize Bettinardi’s, Evnroll, Piretti, and then the even smaller boutiques for that last bit of market share at the $400+ milled putter… the problem (to me) with their retail releases since the mid/late 2000’s is that they got too successful for their own good. Why try when you don’t have to?

Agreed. SC obviously prefers the easy route of offering the cool stuff in a very small supply and an obscenely high price, which predominantly gets bought by scalpers it seems. Whereas Bettinardi frequently offers drops of cool limited run putters in the $500-900 range (still expensive but it’s not circle-t expensive, and they’re more unique than these boring SC limited runs imo), and they can actually be purchased and don’t sell out instantaneously to scalpers (the super expensive Hive 1/1 releases are a different story)

I just don’t understand why SC seemingly wants to maintain such a high resell value on the secondary market, instead making these “limited” releases a little less limited and more available to the general public. Why does secondary-market value matter to SC? Anything he sells flies off the shelf anyway, so I can only imagine the extra demand he’d get if he released something cool in a non-limited drop (or keep it limited, but in large quantities at a more reasonable price). And I’m sure he can do this without tanking the value of circle-t

Brad Faxon might’ve released a sneak peak on a instagram reel

Can't see the sole there obviously but the way Cameron is done now on the neck looks more like an anti-counterfeiting measure to me than anything else - another level of detail added to make it harder for the Alibaba's and DH Gate's of the world.  Stylistically it adds nothing and you could argue that things like this protect the consumer but really it's done first and foremost to protect Scotty.

The silver looking cherry bombs in the cavity are a nice diversion - but I'm no Scotty historian so IDK if this is something new for him or not.  Otherwise a pretty garden variety looking NP2.  Not trying to rag on SC, I've owned a few in my life and still have one now.  Nice putters but nothing in that IG screams "take my money now".

I have a Tour Rat with the silver bombs just like the one Faxon is showing, and I got it over 5 years ago. Hence, he has done it before, but in limited capacity.

Bettinardi was cool for a while but there stuff became harder to get over the last couple years. And they lost me with that NFT crap.

With all of the great custom putter guys out there now, I don’t know why someone would spend that kind of money on a OTR Scotty Newport or Newport 2. Some of the other shapes are harder for smaller custom shops to do

This. I'd take a customized Kari Lajosi or other boutique putter maker over a mass produced SC any day.

The boutique shops do a great job.  That being said Don pays a lot of attention to the small details.  The current NP2 is a work of art.

Yep - Same putters with features no one asked for, inspired by a plane or race car Scotty saw last year.

Titleist did a survey ,and all the features people asked for will be reserved for limited lines only.

The best was Donny Cameron using a hatchet and it being the inspiration for his golf grip.

I wonder if he was the inspiration for Seinfeld’s J Peterman.

I stopped play Scotty Cameron a few years ago. Yet most people still know Scotty Cameron. Resale on them stays high. Even non gear heads know Scotty are worth a good amount.  Hard to sell other brands to people. If you are someone who holds on to your putters, then that is a much different story

Sight dots, no cherry bombs, different necks, etc. Scott's Custom.Shop will be glad to help as will numerous other custom shops.

His business model works for him, not so much for us. No different than Taylor Made just offering the stealth in red, oh wait.... other colors available for $$$ !

Love my old Newport 2, will check out the new stuff and if not for me will probably pick up a 20-22 model.
