Which driver under $150 are you gaming?

In 2021, I went to the St. Louis Golf Expo. I hit a few shots at the Tour Edge booth, and went around and looked at what the clearance vendors had to offer.

 

By chance, I stumbled upon a Tour Edge EXS driver (10.5*), which had just gone out of production. This is the one that was praised as a $500 value driver, that only cost $300. It had no cellophane on the head, but also had no apparent hit marks.

 

The booth minder was from somewhere in Indiana, and apparently thought the EXS was some brand X model. First he said I could have it for $150... then, he lowered the price to $140, saying he would count it as a used club.

 

I bought it quickly, and went down and showed it to the Tour Edge guy. He smiled, said "you'll need this," and me a free TE head cover.

 

Took me a few range-and-wrench sessions to get it zeroed in, but my $140 driver works quite well now.

G400 prices on b/s/t are still...aggressive.  Guess Ping broke the mold there.

Ebay has some interesting ones.  In theory, TM M4 in stiff with an Atmos for 135-ish?  With a dent on the crown, but you can't have everything...

I used golf market isn't what it used to be ever since the golf boom during Covid. 

 

I do see lots of decent deals on Ebay, but even those asking prices have really gone up the last few years. 

What a drag. Well shows you how out of touch I am. I haven't bought anything used in a while, except from here and Callaway Pre Owned.

Put the Cobra King LTD w/ spaceport back in the bag this week just do something different. When you're catching it consistently it feels so soft and sounds so good.

I've looked for heads on the bay but don't find much for my sim max d. Maybe get one of the m3 heads I have in my watch list from days of yore. Honestly, I'd probably just put my backup driver, taylormade r1s in the bag and call it a day. Start saving up looking at tour edge in particular.

This. Golf Town (Canadian Big Box) had a G400 in used shape priced at $420 just this week. The Covid crowd killed the once fair used market.

Prices are crazy lately. 😞 G400's and G410's for sale at $400 Canadian lol 

 

$150 USD here in Canada is a 2016 Ping G driver. Though I saw a Cobra LTD X for $206 USD, used and in very good condition. 

 

With that said, I will get the newest driver with the highest MOI, because I suck with the driver and I need all the help I need.

I agree with the general idea of looking back about 5 years and see if you can find value there, but I wanted to add something new that doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet—the Taylormade R580XD.

 

If I were looking for something under $150 (or even under $100), I would have one reshafted with an older premium shaft.  Wouldn't be able to wail on it like a newer driver, but it would get the job done.

1) Looking to see how much TS4s go for these days.

2) Find an original Covert with an X Stiff Kuro Kage.

Adams XTD Ti has been my personal all time hidden gem, and I'll promote it when threads like these pop up to help boost its legend and value 😄

 

I'm committed to the Callaway Epic Speed TD LS, but it's possible I don't really get any better performance or distance than the Adams.  TD LS has better looks, sound, and workability IMO, but Adams might make appearances if things go awry.  Been wanting to get on a good launch monitor to compare the two, but on PRGR the Adams has my highest ball speeds at 179.  2013-2014 model.

There are some great deals on their CPO but a few weeks back they jacked the driver prices, C722 is now $26x.  Glad you got it when you did.  I was close to pulling the trigger on an E722 with a shaft I wanted for $160 then overnight it was $233.  Didn't need it anyway, my C721 is doing just fine, I did want the shaft though.

I could still use a 9015D if i had to. I'd probably get 3 of them for $150. Used a Ping G LST after it and that was a fine club.

Have a 70gr og kai'li I'm gonna use in it. So not quite at the $150 mark. But a good deal if it works out.

I just found an ATTAS T2 to put in my old 915D3 that I had an accident with 5 years ago.  I have a G400 LST with Tour AD IZ that doesn't seem to spin enough... The shaft is coming with a 910D2 which might be nice to try too. I noticed you can't even give away the heads for these late models, but I hit some great drives with the 915... If I had any of these clubs when I was growing up... My word.
