You'd think he may just be hitting close approach shots and making short putts but that's actually not the case at all. He is ranked 124th in proximity to the hole. He makes up for it by being an extremely good lag putter. So feel may be an issue for you with the 5.5 but clearly Max has great feel with his.

 

I watched Justin's round 2 days ago trying to see what was wrong in his game and I noticed he seemed to be putting really smoothly and with good speed - just had a lot of bad reads. Not sure if that's on JT or Bones but it doesn't matter how well you roll it if you misread the break and pick the wrong line. Maybe he should try aimpoint like Max. Seems to be working well for a lot of top players of all manufacturers.

I give Max credit because a lot of people I know tried the 5.5, but nobody is still gaming one.  Max clearly has more talent than us.

He should take the rest of the year off, and not even think about golf.  The Ryder Cup team shouldn't let him go to Rome, or wherever it is.  Just take time away from the game.

 

He is quite accomplished, and he will be back.  But it is time for him to "cleanse the palette."

Yeah, no doubt he’s right. But Koepka just looks like a -blank- for saying it. And that’s from a guy that has no problem saying it if it’s true… But as my GF tells me, doesn’t mean I should say it. As always, she’s right 😇

There was so much hype around JT when Bones got on the bag. He immediately went on and won the PGA with lots of praise how Bones was instrumental but everything has been downhill since. I’m sure he’s taking stock of his situation and making changes but Bones might need to be the change that’s made. Other than the PGA the vast majority of results with Bones have been depressing. I’m a big JT fan and hate seeing him slump like this. He’s way better than his recent results have shown. While I’d love to see him at the RC again he doesn’t deserve a spot.

Last year definitely gets swept under the carpet due to his PGA win but take away that win and whilst there were plenty of Top 10 finishes there weren't many tournaments where it felt like he really contended.

Totally agree. With the PGA win he obviously was featured group every time he teed up so got to watch him loads and as you say he was 'meh' all year. I watched him at the Scottish Open last year and although it was insanely windy he just looked lost... compared to when I 1st watched him live at the Scottish on the Friday in 2019 where he was striping it and shot a low one that day.

 

It was the same this year too, he just didn't look sharp when on the course, but he was striping it on the range.

 

Last week summed it up for me - he was swinging much better off the tee with driver but just missed every putt early on in the round, got frustrated and made some bad swings leading to some daft bogeys and doubles. Its the difference between a 5/6 under round to a level par round which is where he is currently at. Its almost like he just needs a hot week where it all clicks to get the cylinders firing again, Koepka style! Remember last summer Brooks was lost with the putter and it effected his entire game - to dominating the PGA less than 12 months later..

Totally agree - watching on Thursday last week, his play off the tee was really encouraging. Seemed like he was happy to let himself off the leash a little and hit driver more often and he was hitting it pretty good. From there on in though, he was never getting it close enough to give himself a chance with as cold as the putter is. I don't know if he is still working with John Graham but I cannot recall at any point during his time with him where his putting has been better.

This seems to have become the JT special. The guy seems to think he has to shoot -12 every single round to win a tournament when the reality is he needs to limit his mistakes and realize that sometimes getting Pars is okay, you don't have to be thinking birdie every single hole.

Look at him hitting an iron shot now and compare it to his hitting an iron shot 5 years ago. His left foot is still jumping up with the driver but it is much less pronounced with the irons.

It's interesting that JT, Spieth, and Fowler have all seen their golf careers hit a very rough patch after trading their frat-bro lifestyles for marriage. Not saying there's causation, but certainly correlation. Much like Spieth and Fowler, I expect this is all temporary for JT.
