What's your favorite grip, and why?

I've been using a grip many of you may have never heard of: Avon Chamois.

My grandpa had these on his irons.  They used to market them to people with arthritis, but there's really nothing about them that make them specific to arthritis sufferers.  They are normal size and aren't especially cushioned.  Regardless, I really like them.  After he died I played with them for several years and really like the grips.  When I got a new set I put Avon Chamois on them as well.  They are just the most comfortable to me and really keep their grippy-ness for a long time.  They aren't tacky, but just give a comfortable grip that does not seem to get slick.  I have them on my driver and hybrids right now.  I recently bought new irons and wedges that came with Tour Velvet grips and honestly they are fairly close in feel to the Chamois, so I don't plan to replace them until they get slick.  At that point I'll have to decide whether to go with Tour Velvet again or with the Avon Chamois.  Avon grips aren't that easy to find (I've gotten them off of eBay that last couple of times I've needed them) so they may be discontinued at some point. I have no idea.

Any other Avon Chamois fans out there?  This is what I'm talking about:

Yep - played those for a few years back in the 70's.

I'm probably OLDER than your grandpa!

Thought they were very cushiony and easy on the hands although I didn't think that they lasted all that long but that was a long time ago so I might be misremembering that part.

Surprised they're still available.

Tour Velvet for me every time, they are still the best.

I’ve currently got the round version with the logos upside down, feels a bit old school.

Lamkin Crossline Cords. I prefer not to wear a glove if possible, and I like a very firm and rough feeling grip. I can play in basically any conditions with these grips with no issues. If I play in Palm Springs or Phoenix or somewhere hot, and the hands get really sweaty, I will wear a glove. I have used these grips for probably 20 years and I have never really even tried anything else. And they last forever, I play over 100 rounds per year and I probably change them out every three years or so. If one gets a bit slick (driver or sand wedge, the clubs used most), I just rough it up with sandpaper and they are good as new.

Just standard swing grips, not putter grips.

I love the standard Tour Velvets as they are tacky, and soft, and in my opinion last way longer than the newer TV 360s.

MCC +4 have been my go to for a number of years.  Durable, and great in swamp air!  No gloves

Just switched over from playing MCC grips for 1-2 years to Tour Velvet 360. I found that the MCC was ripping up my hands and gloves from long practices. The tour velvet 360 is nice and also 1/2 the price.

Just trying out the Lamkin Sonar Wrap Calibrate. So far, nice soft feel with a good bit of tack. Never used anything but Golf Pride ribbed grips for over 40 years and my favourite was the V55, a hint of velvet texture and the classic swing rite, griprite hand placement design.

Whatever works.

Those are lowkey a really cool grip, I played them for a bit. I've always appreciated Lamkin's "+2" approach to reducing taper.

I also have played crossline full cords for years.  In my younger days, I played GP Victory Full cord.  Both are firm grips and do very well in humid conditions.  As a bonus, the crossline cords literally last three times longer than any GP I have used.  (Probably 300 rounds before a change is needed).  I tried midsize for a  year or so (I wear and XL glove), but midsize in any brand I have tried feels mushy to me, so I went back to standard size with 3-4 wraps.

For those who say cords tear up their hands, you probably just need to try them for enough rounds to get used to them.  Heck, my wife plays full cord on her driver with no glove.

Cord grips should not tear up you gloves unless your grip is slipping / shifting position during your swing.

#1 has to be the Crossline Cord. The Genesis version is somehow better than the original although I'd happily play either.

For putters my default is the Iomic 65g (used to be the midsize, now Standard) classic smooth.

They seem to last for me, but I don't play more than a couple of times per month.   If I scrub them up with soap and water they feel good.

They aren't easy to find.  As far as I can tell they still manufacture them, but it could just be people selling new old stock.  I have no idea.  But the Tour Velvet are fairly close in feel and much easier to find.  Now that I've played a few rounds with Tour Velvet on my new irons I'd say I like them almost as much as the Chamois grips.  I'm surprised anyone else on here remembers them.  🙂

There is no perfect grip, but if I had to say my current favorite it'd be 3 different ones, white/black GP MCC, GP Tour Velvet Cord, or Lamkin Crossline 360 Genesis Full Cord. My perfect grip would be a MCC with full cord. I know they made them for the Asian market, but havent seen them for several years and searching comes up with nothing.

Edit: Found the name of the full cord MCC style grip Golf Pride D100

Bestgrips Microperf (leather) - love the reduced taper (quickly replaced a gripmaster leather grip I had lying around and put on a 5 wood to try), and no need for a glove due to its leathery goodness.

They're also available midsize now... and i'm curious so just need to find/buy a new club to giv em an excuse to try them, lol. Maybe a Mizuno 5 wood or 7 wood equivalent hybrid 😉

If the Lamkin grip you’re talking is the one Mizuno uses on their stock clubs I’ve had 2 split in me within ~10 rounds

Weird -- I played Mizuno several clubs with the stock ST+ Hybrid 360 grips for all of last year and never had any issues. In fact I was really impressed by the durability.

On the subject of grips, you can't go wrong with GP Tour Velvet, but my personal favorites are probably either that Lamkin ST+ Hybrid or the Lamkin Sonar+. I hate very soft grips (like the CP2) but actually love the Sonar+.

I'm interested in trying the Genesis Crossline Cord this year; I'll probably regrip everything either with that or with the ST+ Hybrid.

There is absolutely no chance an Iomic sticky grip has worn out in a month unless you A.) have a counterfeit or B.) just need to wipe it down with hot soapy water

I had the same issues with the iomic grips. They wore down insanely fast. Love them but at the price point and considering how often I’d have to replace them can’t justify them.

Favorites are the MCC+4 they seem to last forever and not get slick. Just some warm soapy water and they’re good as new.

However I just always seem to go back to tour velvets. Cheap, tacky and consistent.

Lamkin I want to love but the cap is always really long at the end of the grip and they just never feel or look right when I try them.

Same thing with alot of 360 type grips just always something that I don’t care for.

iomics if they lasted longer would be a contender for sure!
