Don't get me wrong - it was fully deserved and he blew the field away (while also being abused by some drunken idiots) but for me he can be filed alongside Curtis, Hamilton and Cink as very uninspiring Open winners.

That two years of Curtis and Hamilton were a tough scene!!

Really bleak.  Curtis played the last 7 holes in +4 to stagger over the line and take advantage of poor old Bjorn's collapse and I remember feeling quite angry that Els had allowed Hamilton to win a major!

ETA - dark horse at Troon this year - Bob Mac 😉

I think course design will have a big influence. Can someone familiar with these course give a quick description of the designs? For example, long/short, small/large FW, more fade/draw, small/large greens, deep rough or not?

Pinehurst 2 -

Valhalla -

Royal Troon -

If a course is shorter, has smaller FWs, small greens, and rough not too deep or most of these factors, I would go with Collin Morikawa. Collin also doesn't do well with high wind.

PH 2 - is a dry, bouncy and running course.  Flattish.  In the native area you could have a perfect lie with no interference or be behind a club of grass and be forced to play out sideways.  I would think, being able to hit a high, controlled drive would be quite beneficial.  As far as greens go, after the reno they kept the "upturned saucer" nature of them despite they not being a true Ross intention.  I have heard and seen they play much, much smaller than their actual square footage.  Again, high controlled iron shots that stick and stay I would think will rule the day.  If the keep the green surrounds short I could imagine the texas wedge will get some play.   *If it comes a flood or floods in the lead up it could cause the bermuda to go nuts and get lush and sticky (compared to typical US Open set ups).

Valhalla has a lot of elevation change from highest to lowest points but only a little elevation change within the holes themselves.  The front nine plays through creek bottoms and the back plays up in the hills.  Fair number of fade bias tee shots.  Rough I would think they grow it out to around 4".  It used to have bent fairways but looking at the aerial the fairways look dormant?  Maybe they went to zoysia?  Honestly I don't think there is really one style that it promotes over any others.  It is a well kept course but architecturally doesn't do much.

not an underdog fan I see...I though was inspired by his win, if the open is giving up odd ball American winners than they just have to "do better" as we say here in the states

I am - I just like my underdogs to have at least a faint trace of charisma and something exciting about their games.

Hybrid chipping and short straight driving/endless club waggling don't really do it for me.

Masters: Viktor Or Rahm

*Love it to be VH as he is right there...!

*Rahm knows his move to LIV will be "spot lighted" so you know he is showing up to go to work, but could backfire by to much pressure on himself.

PGA: Scotty

*Best ball striker in golf right now.  Valhalla seems to fits him and he never makes mistakes plus to me V is more like a normal Pgat course layout.

US Open: *random (some player everyone know but.... " yea they are good, but did not see that coming"

* No.2 seems to be that type of course.

The Open: Rory   !!!

*Love to see him bust the bubble he is stuck in. I think putting down the Pgat banner and just focusing on him he will have a great season next year.

Sleepers: If they are really even sleepers

Morikawa  <-- I think Troon fits his play style.

Brooks (Masters or Pga)

Aberg (PGA or US open)

Bryson (PGA or Masters)

C. Davis (The Open or US Open

Rahm better win one early. The exhibition tour not so good for competitive edge. Bryson isn’t winning squat other than his LIV paycheck. His time in the sun is over.

Open - Rory

US Open - Rory

M6 hybrid
PXG 0211 irons (5 to G)

Rooting against any LIV golfers.

Fowler is not winning a major, ever, IMHO.   He seems like a nice guy, but nice guys finish last.

Tiger probably is too old and injured.

Rory is a mental midget.

Xander doesn't seem to come through in the clutch.

But I'm not going to really pay attention (will be on in my office, muted) until the back nine Sunday...and then only if it's competitive.   I've wasted enough of my life watching golf on TV.

The BBC’s golf correspondent has made the following predictions.  I think it would be great if these played out:

Chevron Championship (18-21 April): Nelly Korda

US PGA Championship (16-19 May): Viktor Hovland (if parting with coach Joe Mayo is not too damaging)

US Women's Open (30 May-2 June): Rose Zhang

Men's US Open (13-16 June): Matt Fitzpatrick

KPMG Women's PGA (20-23 June): Linn Grant

The Open (18-21 July): Ludvig Aberg

The Amundi Evian Championship (11-14 July): Leona Maguire

The AIG Women's Open (22-25 August): Lydia Ko

Rickie's going to have the greatest year in the history of major golf - he's going to win all the men's majors and all the women's.

Rahm’s been hot early in the year the last few years. Scottie is great OTT, the greens are tough to hold and the waste area is intimidating on Pinehurst #2. Åberg for no particular reason. Hovland I just want to see win The Open.

Not quite there for my guess. At least Scheffler and Ludvig are looking good for the next ones and Hovland's got time if nothing else before the open.

Todd Hamilton's bunt/ chip-putt with his Sonartec/Royal Collection Hybrid = still resonates in my memory (i think it provided a meaningful 'bump' in hybrid sales, after the Open?)
