Also wonder what material that insert is. It has screws so I don't think it's that same stick on taylormade plastic insert.

Could be for a number of things, but weight, feel, sound and looks.

My guess is it is some kind of soft milled metal. 
 

we used to get great podcasts on Friday that would talk about this stuff from @knudson81 and @atursky but I think they had a falling out and no longer talk to each other. Only thing I can figure as we have not had a 2 guys talking in about 6 months. Lol

Definitely no falling out, still love Tursky! It is just really hard to schedule with the amount he is traveling and then the time difference we both live in.

It looks a lot like the Soto he was using.  It's likely the same face material as the TM putters.
