Ian Fraser at Club Champion new pricing structure for fitting

I've been patiently waiting for a fitting with Ian Fraser for 6 months. Fitting price was $750 for a full bag. Today I get an email with new pricing structure:

 

Ian's goal moving forward is to maximize these fitting appointments for his valued customers as well as to eliminate a long waiting list. Customers willing to move ahead with this change will be given first priority, with fitting appointments opening up in the next few weeks.

 

A breakdown of what this means (this information can also be found on our website here):

• Ultimate Full Bag Fitting
  • *$5,000 Commitment - with $1,000 allotted to the fitting fee and $4,000 club credit (goes toward equipment purchased at your fitting)
  • This is a 4 hour fitting appointment 
  • *ON HST applies. Full fee is due at the time of appointment booking
• Ultimate Half Bag Fitting
  • *$2,500 Commitment - $500 allotted to the fitting fee and $2,000 club credit (goes toward any equipment purchased at your fitting)
  • Including 3 fitting services of customers choice (driver/fairway+hybrid/wedge/putter/iron)
  • This is a 2 hour fitting appointment
  • *ON HST applies. Full fee is due at the time of appointment booking

 

I guess I won't be getting fit by Ian.

Agreed. Not sure how many will pay $5k for a fitting but I guess there must be enough demand to warrant that pricing. Hard pass for me.

Here is the thing guys - it is supply and demand.  He is one of the best in the world at what he does, and he is priced accordingly.  If you don't want to pay, don't.  But to critique it, is just lazy.  I am sure if you were a business owner, you pursue to be the best in the world.

Now I know why Matt Blois left.  As soon as he left, I unsubbed TXG's Youtube channel and subbed onto his.  I'll pay $5k for a bag fitting, but I want it done at TM's Kingdom and includes all clubs, and all shaft upcharges.

I know nothing about this guy…..but that said…..is he really that insecure about his fitting abilities that he feels a need to charge you for the clubs in advance as well?  If he’s that great a fitter he should be confident that you will want to also purchase the clubs from him. Just one guys opinion.

But hey, you can always book at the nearest Club Champion.  lol

There are many "great" fitters around that are much less for the fitting and the clubs. 

 

I think they did the pricing this way because not enough people were buying clubs from them. Just my stupid opinion.

Was thinking it's got to be one of two things. Either people are just booking to say they got fitted by famous internet guy Ian Fraser and never really intending to buy in the first place, or, the time-vs-money for a full bag is so much better than piece meal that a 6 month wait list suggests there are enough full bag customers that he can afford to pick and choose.

 

I guess I always thought of TXG as boutique so really I'm not surprised considering the price of shafts today are absurd for the common weekend golfer anyway.

I’m ok with the fitting fee, but the equipment credit is bothersome. 
 

I’ve been fit several times at TXG, including my current driver, can Ian really improve it that much??  An extra 5 yards maybe?  What if slight tweaks to your existing irons is all that’s needed, and a new set offers marginal improvement. Just seems off putting, to “have” to purchase from them with this structure.  Again, happy to pay for my fit and pick/choose to spend when/where.

 

As previously mentioned, TXG/CC does appeal to the minority of the golfing population, and I’d argue that that group has a good sense of custom fitting, and would see marginal improvements over drastic results.  Or simply just want new clubs, regardless of any improvements.

Just CC doing CC things. CC sucks. Ian is not CC; even though he is the face of their YT channel and socials (which is part of what CC paid for when they bought TXG). Ian was bought by CC and capitalized on what he built at TXG.

 

Time is money, and Ian is not only a fitter but a businessman running a business which unfortunately is now under CC. Kind of a "hate the game, not the player" scenario.

 

Honestly with Ian's "old" fee of $750 I thought it was $750/hr and I thought that was fine. $750 for a full bag from Ian was a steal. He is literally the best club fitter in the world. Are there others that can get you 98% of the way there for half the price? Sure.

 

Ian and the YT channel regulars know all of this, too. Plenty of top comments in the least year on their videos opining that CC is not Ian. The run of the mill CC fitters are junk.

 

Long story short, this is more of CC capitalizing on Ian and I wouldnt doubt his hands are tied with what CC put in their buyout of TXG contract.

It's funny to me that people criticize the pricing.... do you know how much overhead goes into having a place like TXG... the building/shop, fitting equipment, different shafts and clubs to try?  The manufactures don't give fitters all the equipment for free. Golf hard goods are somewhere between 20 and 30% margins...  Some golfers come in for a fitting and get all the spec suggestions then shop around for the  best price possible which is fine but in my opinion not fair to the fitter. TXG and other fitters aren't making money on the fittings they make money when you purchase equipment from them. 

 

The retail golf business is not an easy one, I appreciate all the content TXG provides us on youtube.  Ian seems like a pretty good guy, props to TXG from continuing to produce quality content for us!!!

Videos have gone downhill big time for those that actually pay attention to details, the non-verbal communication between he and Mikey give so much away, the fake results like in the driver bracket this year, him giving half of the effort on purpose to certain clubs so they get dismissed, varying swing speeds between clubs, getting 20-25 yards difference magically when he hit the same club two weeks before with normal results, them editing out shots to get the results they want to push, etc etc etc. 

 

There is still some good info to be had from watching but for those that have watched for years and really pay attention, it's more about pushing new products now than anything.  Especially products of TM, Callaway, Ping, and Titleist

Now, I may not go to Toronto often... well, ever so far in my life... but if i did, i would indeed go see Matty 😉
