Anybody Gaming "Old" Clubs (Pre-2006)

This is the first year I moved some of my equipment into the "modern" era. I either play Hogan Apex Plus or Cleveland TA 588 progressive irons, a Cleveland Quadpro 4-wood, some original Trusty Rusty wedges or 588 RTG wedges, and a Scotty Cameron Santa Fe Teryllium putter. At the end of this season, I bought a new Nike VR Pro driver and some Ping S58 irons, first new clubs I had bought in over a decade.

Bridgestone J33 Driver
Callaway Steelhead + 3 and 5 wood
Cleveland wedges all purchased around 2005

Putter is new about every two years I chage up the putter

Not much, but my bag is Ping Hoofer I've had since the late 90s, my putter is a Cameron Newport Beach from around 2002, and until the groove rule changed I had the OG Snake Eyes EV wedges. I also have an SQ II 4 wood that is old tour stock, newish to me, but I suppose technically was first released maybe as far back as "06?

Play my MP32 irons still, circa 2004. I bought them in 2007, and were definitely brand new and had been boxed for at least a year or two then. incredible irons, and will stick with them for a long time. Might change the shafts, though!

A Mizuno TP-15 18* 4w with dynamic gold R300.

I have had this club for over 20 years. As solid or maybe more so than my current gamer. There will always be a place in the bag for this.

i went back to my old bag a month a go and score the same as with my new equipement. i dont belive equipement has improved all that much in the last 10 years. they tell you it has so they can sell more clubs.

No offense taken. By personal standards, six years is not "old". However, GolfWRX standards are vastly different. My current irons are 12-13 years old.

Practically my whole bag is pre 2006 (view sig).

All the real improvement in my game has come from lessons.

In my opinion, over the last 5 to 7 years, clubs have not really improved, they have just gotten shinier.

Maxfli Revolution Black Dot. Been in the bag a long time. Very simple cavity back, with great soft feel.

Yes my Titleist 690.mb's (2 thru pw) are old, but with the exception of the Nike VR Pro's (which I can't afford) nothing has come close to the feel or distance I've been lucky enough to experience with these clubs.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add in my Titleist driver - I reshafted it and it came back and knocked my Callaway FT Tour out of the bag...

For 2013, I will be playing my 1991 Wilson Staff FG-51 Tour Blades, 3-SW. I have just had them regripped with new Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips, and shortened to Women's Standard Lengths: 3-iron at 37.75" to SW at 34.25".

I ONLY consider making club changes when I find something that is DEFINITELY better that what is in the bag now. That doesn't happen very often, (contrary to all the marketing hype).

I consider each club in my bag very special and each has been customized to my particular specs. There really are some "oldies but goodies" clubs out there that just can't be improved upon.

Ping Hoofer 2 (Still looks and works perfect)

I play Yonex Super ADX Tour irons, little if anything to be gained using newer irons IMO.
