No, he never said that.

The implication was that if they'd do it to Cronkite, they'd d***n sure do it to some golf talker-guy.

Yup. Bore-fest. Disastrous.

Slice fixer for swing analysis. 'gotta hear that thud boom, no clicky bullshot'.

Dottie already has one of the jobs. Maybe one of the Immelmans. Would Nobilo be a possibility or is he in one of the other towers already? While these two names are not the big name splashes that CBS wants, Dennis Paulson from Sirius XM or Brian Katrek from Sirius XM and PGA Tour Live are very good at calling golf. I would love for one of them to get the job.

According to Geoff Shackleford, the Tour wanted CBS to make this move and CBS is going to be groveling after the Tour with the new TV deal coming up. Maybe Davis Love will surprise me, but I can't see him bringing new life to the broadcast. He's clearly a Tour veteran and well-respected, but exciting and interesting on TV I just don't see.

Nobilo works for the GC and most likely would stay put. I'm ok with Davis in one of the towers covering a hole or two.

As for the swing guru to replace Kostis, I'd like to see Claude Harmon III but wouldn't know if he would break from Sky Sports.

Seems to be a mental disease that sets in once you reach a certain # of followers on IG.

There’s an implication, it’s like a 4th line player getting traded from the Edmonton Oilers and saying well this is the team that traded Gretzky... my intention wasn’t saying he said it. I merely found it funny he mentioned that quote.

True, but is not full-time with CBS and also is not a swing instructor, although neither is Immelman.

Mark Immelman is a swing instructor and a college golf coach. CBS has had a swing instructor in Kostis, but NBC doesn't have one for telecasts. Not sure if Fox does either. I don't think it's necessary. Just get someone good at talking golf.

You might be right - CBS might just ditch the Konica Minolta analysis spots and add another ex-Tour player.

I actually feel sad for her. Seems to be really nice. Women in TV have it much more difficult. She probably thought she needed plastic surgery to stay relevant. And the same for the photos she posts.

I could be totally wrong just my lame opinion.

CBS’s issues were not Kostis and McCord. Faldo and Finch rarely say anything memorable and are boring to boot. J Miller was blunt and to the point, no matter the feelings involved; genuine; original; thought provoking, and funny. These are traits absent at cbs, and based on the rumored new additions, will persist. CBS, always reserved in its approach, would benefit from adding spicier content, say John daly, pat perez, etc

Who are the big name sideline reporters in football? Clear communicators, fairly good-looking people who are not models. Maybe Holly felt she had to go this route after not getting more airtime on Fox golf, but it is clearly way too much.

She and Erik both started heading that way when they were on MD and more so not long after.

curious but do most of you think that the next announcer needs to have pga tour experience. i'm not sure i'd agree, there are some knowledgeable guys web experience with big personalities that would come at lesser cost and actually shake up the coverage and go younger.....instead it just looks like we're replacing awful with bad. i'm happy to see mccord go, and willing to give dl3 a chance, but do these network executives have any ability to think outside of the box when it comes to hiring and golf coverage in general. maybe golf is stuck in the past not because their announcers are old, but because the network golf executives and pga executives are old and out of touch.

I can see the rationale for DLIII.

- He's been on the tour recently and been a RC captain so he knows all the current players

- He's probably played all of the courses many times so can provide insight into how to play, where to miss, etc.

- He has a lot of credibility with the players so can probably get them to open up an talk about stuff

Remember the audience is also old and out of touch. The average age of a PGA Tour viewer is 64, the oldest of any US sport.

As stated in the podcast linked above, the PGA Tour is happy with the coverage at CBS and NBC.

My superiors have told me there is a new assignment in my future and we are excited about it and hoping it is a fixed site assignment. All of the being crated up and shipped off to the next event gets rather old at times and it is tough on the relationship with my wife.

Average viewer age of 64. Yikes. Golf TV ratings will be in trouble when the older generation dies out. Younger people do not have the patience for golf. I'm saying that as a younger person myself. I don't think many of them are going to develop an interest in this as they get older, either. Video games, Internet, and such. Anyone born after 1980 is going to be a lot less likely to be interested in golf than previous generations might have been (at similar ages).
