Former SLDR users - what are you using now?

And by the way, the well-received SLDR Mini Driver doesn't have a slider mechanism either...and nobody seemed to care or miss it! It also has a bonded hosel! The SLDR-Mini Driver is considered a very solid, straight, and easy-to-hit club, that's for sure!

Now just imagine that TM decided to made a BIGGER SLDR Mini Driver, (460cc), in a different color scheme, (classic gloss black with chrome face and sole), and also added (lower) lofts and a longer shaft. Of course TM couldn't call it a 'Mini' Driver now, but WOW wouldn't that be something!...

(It has actually already happened...announced by TM mid-year of 2015)

I didn't create the driver with the "sliding weight technology that will change the game." I have no clue why they came up with an acronym with no meaning while the golf channel touted the Slider. I could care less what they call it, but the C is obviously the cheaper version made for masses to save money. Very much like the Callaway lines at Dicks that no one has ever heard of. What better way to sell a club than by dumbing down the technology that you used to promote it but leave the name the same. Don't mind me, I need to go buy my fruity rings cereal.

Having played ALL the SLDR Drivers including Tour-issued versions, I can say the redesigned-for-2015 SLDR-C clubhead is easily the most forgiving model of the SLDR Series and also the best-of-the-bunch in my opinion. I don't think anyone will miss the slider mechanism any more than those who chose the M2 over the M1 do. (The slider mechanism was replaced by a 'speed pocket' on both the SLDR-C and the M2.) Futhermore, there is certainly nothing wrong with saving a few bucks while getting better performance! People eventually learn for themselves there is no direct relationship between price and performance! The SLDR-C Driver is as good as it gets with a fitted premium shaft! The reason is because it offers a great blend of (3) performance factors, Distance, Accuracy, and Forgiveness, and it is that 'blend' that leads to maximum consistency off the tee, (improved average driving distance, and the percentage of fairways hit). The solid feel and sound, and great looks are certainly nice attributes too!

JANUARY 2017 UPDATE: If you would like to see more opinions on how it PERFORMS, there are now OVER 100 REVIEWS of the SLDR-C Driver at the rockbottomgolf.com website. These Classic TM Drivers are still available at closeout prices. If interested, I suggest you act now before all these are gone! Driver clubheads just don't get any better than this one! No need to 'loft up' with this one, I suggest you try the 9.5* first! Get fitted for the optimal shaft!

the golf chanel touted the "sliding weight technology " if charlie Rymer said "slider" i rest my case

edit... the letters are always capiltal for a reason..its said S L D R ...not Sldr ( slider) .... and im sorry that this is a shock.. im not intentionally being obtuse ... its just a pet peave that grates on me like nails on a chalk board... if you knew how many times that 1st year they came out i walked onto a tee and had some guy say " oh man you got one of those sliiidddeerrss" to which i replied " no " this one is made by Taylor made....its the SLDR...who makes the slider ?"

Tried a SLDR 430 10.5* as a possible bridge from my R9 9.5* due to the similar headsize. Driving was far too hot & cold with either, so I got a used R15 TP 12*. It's early, but it has pretty much already smashed both the SLDR and R9 in 1 round.

Our TM rep at the SLDR challenge told us that someone owned the term "Slider" so TM came up with the name "SLDR" as a workaround.

Believe it was Callaway who owned the rights to "slider"

This is the correct answer.

Callaway filed for Trademarks on:

Slider

Slider Technology

Slider Tech

Slider Weighting

...and several others.

I have to say...I'm back to my SLDR. Went SLDR -> G30 -> SLDR -> M1 460 -> SLDR -> M1 430 -> SLDR. I just can't get an M1 to give me numbers that are any different than my SLDR, and I know/trust it, so why change? Expensive experiments all, but I'm convinced that I can't do much better than my current setup (SLDR/HZRDUS).

I think it's time for me to move on from my SLDR 430 @ 7.5º to try and find more fairways.

I was fit for this club years ago with a stock X shaft some good monitor numbers but I rarely find the fairway and it's really seems like it's a driver for better players, not someone with 100-105 SS and a 20-25 handicap.

I'm looking at the Fly Z, Fly Z+, M1 460, or M2 after reading this entire thread. Any other suggestions from people who have had a similar experience?

Whoa... 430 @ 7.5*...that's somethin fierce there. What's your AOA? Don't know how long you've been wrestling with the 430, but I'd agree you'd probably do better with something else.

I went from 430 (12* turned down to 10.5* ) to a G30LS (9* turned down to 8*). It took a while to adjust to the G30. IMO, they are totally different in the way the clubhead moves/releases around impact. Primary advantage with the G30 is greater ballspeed retention away from the sweet spot. On the other hand, balls that are offline just go farther offline.

I finally made the change. Not because SLDR 9.5 was bad or the problem. The problem is me. I have reached the age where the heavier SLDR head was no longer to my advantage. My choice was Titleist 917D2 10.5 and 917F2 15*; both off the shelve with stock "S" shafts. Each offers a bit more forgiveness on off center strikes, lighter weighted heads, and less dispersion. The other surprising benefit has been Titleist sleeve's have more accurate adjust-ability. Still dialing both in, but so far so good... hitting most fairways, even picked up a few yards. May have to look at Titleist 716 MB or CB.

Still using the 43.5 inch shafted Jetspeed 10.5 that I replaced the SLDR with two seasons ago. Might try to get an original M2 head to give a try this season, but I imagine the JS will stay in the bag a while. One of the most underrated drivers of all time if ya ask me!

Now a few months later...2017 M1 has firmly kicked SLDR out of my bag. Got it dialed a bit over a couple sessions and it's noticeably longer, easy 10-15. Same HZRDUS shaft. Not sure why it's so different for me from the previous M1, but I've hit some of the best drives of my life in the last week. SLDR can collect dust in the corner now.

I just switched after about 3 years to a Mizuno JPX 900. Only did it because I love how the Mizzy looks, and was more consistent with it. The SLDR is staying around to be brought out now and then for sure. Im fairly confident that thing will always be the longest driver Ive ever hit.

And now I'm back to the SLDR 430. I did the weight "Fix" and nothing (M1 430, M1 440, M2, nor Epic) gives me better numbers.

You didn't include 'THE FIX' pic that you previously posted in the SLDR Anonymous Meeting thread, so I am adding it here! (Note the placement of the (2) weights that were added in this pic).

Golfwrx'ers can click on the following link and then scroll to Post #77 for complete details on how to perform 'The SLDR Fix' you mentioned above. SLDR Anonymous Meeting - Equipment - GolfWRX - Page 3

I've moved through Jetspeed, XTD, M2, back to Jetspeed, 915D2, Epic, and now F6... though I'm not sure it means much since my SLDR honeymoon was luckily a short and cheap one. Actually, a lasting legacy of my short SLDR experiment is the stock Speeder 57 shaft is still around in my Jetspeed (in the backup/walking bag) since its slightly heavier weight helped me keep the the swing weight up when shortening it.

To anyone interested in the SLDR-C driver, Global has a few in "Mint" condition for $55 in a few different flexes and lofts.

I really do think it depends on each persons swing . Not a huge hitter but SLDR set at 12 and weight set on blue marker guaranteed long high fade 90%.

Went to g30 ,love hate ,love hate . Lost distance draws became hooks, shaft felt to short . Tried longer shafts ,TM Fuji pro 50 with little improvement so back to SLDR. Waiting for a JPX ez to arrive .
