Just got my Anser 2 in the mail and couldn't be happier. Anser 2, sound slot, starshot finish, 1* flat, 2* loft. The starshot finish is a lot darker than the photos show—which is awesome. Quality is superb. Starshot finish well worth the extra 30, IMO. With the Pingman Blackout grip, an excellent putter.

Why can't more companies refrain from stamping their name and company history on the soles of their putters?

I'm in the minority here but rolled a few with the stock '66 Anser 2's yesterday and they did nothing for me..i prefer a thicker topline so the thin topline was a dealbreaker, and it just didn't feel as solid as the new Scotty Select Newport that I was also rolling...yes i realize the Scotty costs 2.5 times as much. The bronze finish Anser was offputting...didn't even bother rolling any with it.

Tried the Anser 2 today and was very impressed. Rolls great and very forgiving. I'm tempted but have a feeling (not proof) that Ping will be releasing a new line of milled putters. I say it simply because many of their staffers are gaming custom milled flat sticks. Anyway, a nice release for Ping.

As you can see from the picture of the sole I posted above, the custom sound slot on the Anser 2 is much longer than the stock sound slot on the Anser. It makes a HUGE difference in sound and feel. Rolled mine side-by-side at the local golf store, and the sound/feel is dramatically different than the Anser.

how so?

To me, the stock Anser with the factory sound slot seemed dead—more muffled, soft, and muted. No ring, no ping. I feel like if the sole was covered up on the stock Anser, I wouldn't even know the putter had a sound slot. I didn't get the audible "ping" we would associate with the old-school Pings.

Conversely, the Anser 2 I ordered with the custom sound slot has a VERY audible "ping". It rings out after you hit a putt (which I love). Combo'ed with the TR grooves, the feel (both audible and tactile) is phenomenal. It's soft and smooth, while still giving the light and "pingy" sound that fits my ears. It's really unique. I didn't think anything could out perform the feel of my bronze Scottsdale Anser with sound slot, but this has—by a mile.

For anyone who cares, the Anser 2 with sound slot is a COMPLETELY different putter, in terms of sound and feel, than the stock offerings. Adding the star shot finish and Pingman blackout grip, it's awesome. I really found a winner.

How much is the star shot finish? Is this finish available from ping?

Covered a few posts back. Cost is 30, done by Ping.

I had Ping add the floating face on my Anser 5 milled and the feel is much better.

It came down to two putters for me yesterday at the shop. The tr 1966 anser and an odyssey works ch7. I ended up getting the ch7. Now I want the anser. But I know if I got the anser i'd be daydreaming about the ch7. So we'll see, hopefully I make a whole bunch of putts so I stop thinking about that bronze beauty.

Buying a new Anser would mean I won't play my SeeMore anymore.

Why can't we play 2 putters at the same time in our bag.

The good news is that I won't be looking for a Redwood Anser anymore. Left handed are expensive and hard to find.

Have you tried the 1966 line yet? Night and day difference in feel vs. Redwood.

If you can get the Anser 2 without a sight line, does that mean you can get it without other stock stampings as well? For example, no stamps on the bumpers or in the cavity?

No, Ping is not going to give you a blank putter. Their stampings are non negotiable.

And I don't think you can get an anser 2 without the flange line.

Then someone else will need to chime in, because more than one has said you can get it without a sight line.

You can't order the Anser 2 without a sightline.

I don't recall anyone saying you could get an Anser 2 without a sight line. You can order an Anser with one or without but the Anser comes without one stock.

I was told by a Ping rep that the Anser 2 head comes from their vendor with the sight line already on the head. Most of their cast heads come from Vietnam.

I even asked about a year ago if they could fill in the sight line on my Rewood Anser and add a sight dot. Yes on the sight dot but no on filling the sight line.

Finally got the chance to roll both at the local Golf Town.

WOW! Very impressed! This has to be the hands down champ at this price point from ANY of the 2016 otr offerings. Really liked the feeling of the Anser 2, firm but not clicky and definitely not mushy, to me at least. Depending on the ball you use ymmv. Now I have to figure out what putters to sell so I can get a custom starshot with sound slot.

A few notes from my small amount of time rolling:

- Sets up really nice behind the ball, thinnest face cast putter I've ever seen!

- The top edge of the face appears to have a slight relief angle milled in it. Never noticed this on other TR models, but assuming it offers more forgiveness on strikes high on the face. Very Cool.

- Grip was installed about 5* open... BOOOO!

- Real nice weight to it. Not too light, Not too heavy. The 35" did feel a little heavier as the swing weight is proportionate. (I would order 34.5)

- Gold color on Anser model is very brassy looking in person. No biggie, can ordered in starshot

- Distance control was awesome. I think I will take a gallon of the TR koolaid please.

- Real classy, real performance, and really great price. Well done Ping!

I really like the anser but I have a milled anser right now and I actually prefer the feel with no sound slot. It is a little firmer, anyone know if you can get an anser without the sound slot?

Any physics majors out there? Or maybe Bryson DeChambeau can chime in: I'd really like a 36 inch at 74 degree lie -- which I believe is silver dot. Will the longer shaft make it "feel" heavier? (If so this is a positive). Thinkin Anser 2 with stock PP58 grip -- could be talked into the sound slot.
