Kirkland Signature (Costco) golf balls (MERGED) (NO BST POSTS)

Those who say this ball launches high might want to look at their swing faults. This ball has a very penetrating flight pattern when hit properly with my driver and 3w. By no means does it spin high off those clubs. With irons and wedges it spins nicely on the greens and stops just like I hoped it would.

It does launch higher than some of the other tour balls out there. Has nothing to do with the club at impact. It has to do with how the ball responds once in the air. Like the TPX which also tends to launch a bit high, it's using the higher flight and lower spin to create more carry distance yet still have good control once it lands on the green.

So I spent some more time with them this weekend. I would love to see some confirmed spin numbers, but what I have discovered so far......

There is video on YouTube where a guy testing a few different balls against the Kirkland on launch monitor. He includes a file in the description with

I played 18 holes with the KS in somewhat windy conditions, on a soft course with greens which were aerated one week ago and sanded a couple of days ago, so I don't want to put too much weight on what I observed today, though I have a pretty good idea of how this ball performs for me.

Driver: I wasn't thrilled with the performance off the driver. To be fair to the ball, I didn't have a very good driving day but I did strike a few drives pure and nearly pure and I'm left with the impression that this ball is a little shorter off the tee than other balls of its ilk. On a couple of holes I hit a Wilson Duo U off the tee after the KS. One Duo U was even distance with the KS and the other, 5 yards longer even though the swings I put on both Duos were less quality. I thought the feel off the driver was similar to the B330, which is to say firm and crisp, but not harsh. The KS did lack the B330's explosiveness off the face, though. Areas I carry the B330 to were not reached by the KS in total, but again, the fairways were somewhat soft. I thought the KS spun more and was affected by the wind more so than the B330.

That's about it for the negatives. Everything else was very positive...

Irons: Distance was on par with other similar balls. Feel was nice, if not transcendent . Soft, but not too soft - fits in with the ProV1/x. It may have sounded a little clickier, but didn't "feel" clicky. I was able to control the trajectory well with this ball. Got it up in the air quickly to clear big lips of fairway bunkers a couple of times and I had good results keeping the ball under some tree limbs, as well. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary as far as trajectory on normal shots. The ball appeared to spin well, even on long irons to the green. I am not a high spin player, but I backed up a 9 iron and a couple of wedges on downwind approaches. The KS gives up little, to nothing, to premium tour balls in the spin department.

Putter: I liked putting with this ball very much. Consistent, linear results according to the stroke and feel that anyone could be comfortable with.

I don't know if I'd classify the K-sig as a "premium" ball, but I don't know if there is a better value play out there. It's plenty good enough for my game, but I need to get a better feel of it with my driver before I decide to go all-in.

- Kirkland branded? Same brand as my toilet paper. Couldn't they come up with something better?

Do you have any ideas for what Costco should have named their golf ball?

Tour in place of the Kirkland. Kirkland in fine print for the alignment aid could be the only thing I would change if I could.

Yeah I'm not a marketing professional or anything, but it's hard to come up with a branding that could be worse (maybe Walmart brand golf balls). Anything generic for / pro branding would be fine. "Pro Edition" - it took me 20 seconds to think of that.

I'm enjoying this thread and love it that so many of you guys are finding the performance comparable to more expensive balls like Pro V1/X's. I haven't tried these balls myself yet, but will at some point. I've been playing the Maxfli U6 Tour Soft as of late and find the performance similarly comparable to the Titleist balls. I'm an engineer with a frugal streak, and spending double or 3x on a Titleist branded ball is like a hot poker in my eye. No thanks!

Weird/cool info: Today is 10/19.

1) Placed initial order 10/11. No movement it seemed. Order processed 10/16 out of Lathrop, CA. Order delayed to operating conditions.... Finally started moving again 10/16. Last check it was scanned in Oakland, CA 10/18. 8 days since the initial order and still no delivery.

2) However, based on info in this thread - I placed another larger order yesterday afternoon 10/18. This one was processed in Laurel, MD much closer to my home in MD than the previous order from CA. :) UPS says it's out for delivery today. Pretty neat. Guess it's luck of the draw where you hit the supply chain? Rather have 1 day delivery than 8+ days. :)

Lol, Costco isn't making golfballs for professionals. EVERYTHING is named Kirkland that is made by Costco, they aren't going to change that.

Was at the UTSA Costco last night to get a roasted bird and checked for balls. No dice but they only had 10 or so Hex Soft left at discount. I wonder if they're gonna be replaced by KSigs there? Never seen their ball supply so low.

Do the price of the Hex Soft end in a 7 and have an Asterisk in the top right corner of the sign? If they do then that means they are clearing in store inventory and they will not be restocked.

The way these are starting to move out of their warehouses, I'm pretty sure they are happy with the name and their investment.

Yeah, and the Kirkland brand carries some serious weight with a lot of people. I completely trust it, and if I don't like the product, they'll instantly refund my money no questions asked.

Nothing named Kirkland is made by Costco.

Every Kirkland brand item is manufactured by a third party and labeled Kirkland.

This guy on Reddit, who is a very good player (and extremely fast swinger) did an in depth review on his home GC2 setup comparing it to lots of balls.

Here is the data: http://imgur.com/a/PUZ22

Here is the thread where he talks more and answers people's questions: https://www.reddit.c...my_gc2_testing/

Hey that's me :) Thanks for sharing in here.

Can you test spin on 20yd bump and runs? And 30yd low spinners?

Just ProV1 vs Kirkland? Like 10 chips of each to get a real thorough dataset?

Shots like those are difficult to execute consistently and fraught with a high level of shot to shot variation. Gotta be very careful to not blame the ball for user error.

Exactly what he said. I could do that, but there will be more variation in how much grip pressure, and how clean a shot I hit more than anything. Those shots are better for you to determine just by going to the practice green.

My main goal was really to provide data that you couldn't determine by just hitting balls.
