Wow. What a let down. Performance related? What does that even mean?

It means he is not ready!

Jesper saying he was puring everything and hitting it like he did 15 years ago. Supposedly striping it all day long. Still don't understand the contradictory reports. Is he striping it or does his performance suck? I don't get it. My guess is it's health related and they're not saying.

wow, unbelieveable. We may not see him until 2017 if this keeps up. He shouldn't play if he's not ready though. But then don't commit the Friday before the tournament!!

Wow that sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing him out there. I didn't care if he went out there and stunk it up, just his presence changes a tournament.

I can understand him being under a lot of pressure to perform. I don't think anyone who's played at his level can go out there without the self expectation of winning. If he doesn't feel he's ready, then maybe it's better to WD until he is.

Could actually be both. To play the game at the highest level and to contend like he wants to every time he tees it up, there are a lot of nuances to the game that go along with that. So much precision on each shot. You can stripe it all day long but distance control is as important. Most shots are not stock yardages. These guys have to know their swings down to a yd or sometimes even half yds. It's not surprising that he isn't playing but I'm a little surprised he waited until today.

I've been lucky enough to avoid the chipping yips throughout my life, but did have a spell of putting yips that thankfully only lasted a few months. I can't imagine how the once long-time world #1 could possibly have the chipping yips, but we've seen it from him over the past couple years. I don't think his mind it right yet and it make take awhile to get there. He doesn't want to embarrass himself ever because he's under the microscope. However, I think if he's healthy he should have played and just worked his way through it. That would have brought out all of the naysayers and added fuel to his fire the old-fashioned way. Now he's just going to continue to be a recluse until his game is up to par. You can hit all the shots you want on the range or a simulator, but there's nothing like the feel of tournament golf.

He's not mentally ready and that's a shame because he's had so long to get that part of his game together. The only way he's going to get that confidence back is by working through his troubles. The best way to work through your mental struggles is to play in tournaments. I really hope he does play in December.

By Tiger Woods

After a lot of soul searching and honest reflection, I know that I am not yet ready to play on the PGA TOUR or compete in Turkey. My health is good, and I feel strong, but my game is vulnerable and not where it needs to be.

When I announced last week I was going to Safeway, I had every intention of playing, or I wouldn't have committed. I spent a week with the U.S. Ryder Cup Team, an honor and experience that inspired me even more to play. I practiced the last several days in California, but after a lot of hours, I knew I wasn't ready to compete against the best golfers in the world. I will continue to work hard, and plan to play at my foundation's event, the Hero World Challenge, in Albany.

I would like to apologize and send my regrets to Safeway, the Turkish Airlines Open, the fans in California and Turkey and those that had hoped to watch me compete on TV. This isn't what I wanted to happen, but I will continue to strive to be able to play tournament golf. I'm close, and I won't stop until I get there.

The way things are shaping up, he better be getting some Big Berthas and a Spin Dr wedge. Hell, might as well sign to play the Hammer X. Pains me to think this way, but dude is 100% done. He has been done mentally since he got busted, literally and figuratively. Tiger is officially a head case.

I think Tiger should bring back his clubs from his 1997 Masters win... Cobra driver, Cleveland Wedges, and Mizuno Irons. Man were those good looking irons, haha

He's been done since 2009 then? Well in 2012 and 2013 he was 2nd and 1st on the money list with a combined 8 wins. The 2 yrs before that he had swing changes and in 2014 his injuries started. I wouldn't say he's 100% done. Assuming the reports are true that this isn't health related, then it's the smart move. The guy gets critiqued like no one else in the world. If he doesn't believe the intricacies of his game aren't up to par yet then he's smart to wait. There's gonna be enough pressure on him when he returns...needs to make sure it's right.

Yea, 2012 and 2013 were awful years for him.

Read his statement. He stated his game feels vulnerable. I would hate to come back and play with that mentality after being so dominate. Maybe he doesn't want to fail, look at what failing has done for Odell Beckham Jr recently.

The issue that people don't understand about back pain, specifically what he's going through, comes and goes. I know, because I have some of the same crap in my back that he's been dealing with. Some days you feel like you can take on the world, some days you can't even get out of bed or tie your own shoes. It's better he wait then rush back.

You can be upset he committed and backed out the week of, but honestly if he's not ready, he's not ready.

I agree....I have also dealt with it and you are absolutely correct on the different feelings on different days. All of his fans wanted to see him compete on Thurs but it's a good move if he doesn't feel his game is there.
