Well the hype on this driver is unreal. Can't wait to see how this performs for the lucky few that get to go to Callaway in early December. Are they going to do what Titleist did with the C16 driver, release a high end version of Epic and then several months later release a toned down version?

The original LCG Square Callaway driver was a phenomenal club. To this day I still haven't had a driver that was as forgiving and long. Bad thing was the thin face had me crack two faces and I'm not a Hercules type swinger so it was essentially the design.

Jailbreak technology... this seems interesting. two rods that connect the crown to the sole just behind the face? This seems similar to what Ping is trying to accomplish with the patent for a honeycomb face design. The rods must be somewhat lightweight though or else that seems like too much weight near the face

 

The name Jailbreak itself is interesting too. It almost seems as if something in that setup has to be "set free"

Just confirmed with my rep that both will be same price and well south of $1000. Like prior models. He didn't say there was a limited release coming out, but who knows. Competing more with 917 price wise.

Your info is wrong on the Epic and I just confirmed it 1 hour ago with a "top exec". Maybe they will come out with a concept driver but the Epic is around the $499 price point.

Just saying, Greg is incredibly knowledgeable. Callaway hasn't made a play at the PXG/C16 type golf club yet, so, maybe that's what he heard. All sounds viable and good.... Plus, always going to go to bat for Greg, this place is as amazing as it is because of his work, as well as the tireless work of others who keep this site going.

If the driver substantiates the living hype with proper results it is unlikely the club will sell at a price of $400.

It will be more, may be much more. This is the part of marketing that Callaway understands really well.

 

Remember the ERC that sold for an extremely high introduction price at the time. 6-(perhaps 8) years later the head sold at $15.

Same old with the introduction of the Taylor Made Bubble driver.

Beyond photos he has taken, I've yet to see Greg offer a positive contribution to the forum. Not sure if Callaway is a forum sponsor, but WRX staff should talk with Greg about how he interacts on the forum. True or not, it's not his place within the industry to drop that line. There is NO WAY they are going to mass market a driver at $1,000 and limit the release. Not going to happen.

 

Maybe the information you heard was for the EPIC SubZero, similar to the limited release of the XR16 SubZero this year, but ain't going to happen for the standard model.

 

If it is a limited release, it's unlikely to be mass marketed. PXG is flooded with orders, and their irons are $350 per (black $500). No doubt, if this is a limited release, it will be quite successful.

I'm no fence sitter, but maybe they're all right? Maybe Callaway is coming out with something very limited and very expensive. It's just not the Epic.
