Taylormade Spider Tour Putters

If I order the black through Taylormade with 1* of loft added to it will it effect the face angle? I prefer the insert and look of the black but they sit open and I hate it. The red ones sit perfect.

 

**I compared a red, red w/ sightline, and black today. The necks went in to the head differently on each putter, the black being the most angled. There was only one of each though.

I think this is one of the ones coming out this year! There's a pic above, of all the new spider variations....could sworn a black sight-line model was in there! So, your holy grail may just be month away!

I doubt it will have the black insert though... it would be cool if it did.

Its a tour only thats on Ebay for $1500. Woof. Im on the verge of buying a Spider, but I want a black one with a sightline. I have no problem adding a sightline myself, but if its going to come to production I can wait. With that being said, Im having trouble finding a black one that sits square (broken record). I might just get a red with a sightline and paint the line black. A black one with a sightline and the black insert might be too good to be true.

 

Anybody know when the new releases are set to come out?

If you want that, just buy a red one with a sight-line, then spend the $60 to send it to Continental Golf so they can paint it black for you.

 

A heck of a lot cheaper than $1500, and you get the same result.

So I have a Black Spider with a set of 2gm and 6gm weights that I switch between. Last week the 2gm weight broke while tightening (lesson learnt, dont tighten too much) and the stem of the screw is now wedged inside on one of the weights. I don't care about the weight itself but would like to get them stem out. Is there an easy/cheap way to do it?

So, the snow arrived and I'm putting inside. I look down at my Black Tour Spider and, when set on the ground, it looks open. I'm getting more and more paranoid when I decide to check the archives. Awesome !! Now, I can go nuts about the 3 wraps under my driver grip. :slow_en: :to_become_senile:

It's just the angle of the neck. Bend it forward until it sits square. I did the same to my black DJ spyder.... no biggie.

It's always interesting to read other peoples opinions on what they see is square/open/closed. I was attracted to the Spider Black initially because I felt the putter sat perfectly square while the Spider Red sat closed. I like the feel of the Red more but the Black just sits perfect to me.

Totally NOT a shot a TM, here, but, these varied a LOT coming of the production lines. When I brought them to have the loft/lie checked, the fitter and I were shocked. the lofts varied from 1-4 degrees and the lies were anywhere from 68-73. I had 4 of them (2 red, 2 black) and they were all over the place. Sadly, when I bent them to MY specs, it did make some of them sit funky at address (SUPER open).

 

Bogeypro had the thought that this could be fixed....any more insight on what you mean or how to do it?

Reporting in on my Black Spider Tour (DJ) after ~30 rounds...

 

Added a Winn jumbo pistol grip and, using a pencil grip myself, have shaved strokes off each round this year.

 

I don't have the sole wear shown in an earlier image.

 

Mine does not setup open and I believe it's because a proper lie keeps it level.

 

Very confident in this setup, still.

I’m 25+ rounds in on my Red JD and not a single paint had chipped off. Best putter I’ve had.

same here. My jd looked awful after 1 month. Paint chipping and black insert peeling off. Dj model still looks good after 6 months. Wish it was vice versa because I prefer the jd red quit a bit more.

Thanks for the replies guys. I’m thinking of getting a spider soon but after having paint chip off my spider blade a few years back in a bit wary. Shame the red is worse than the black for paint peeling as it’s the better looking club in my opinion. Has anyone tried lacquering the club?

FWIW, my wife had the Spider blade and I've NEVER seen a less durable putter. I would say BOTH the red and black spiders will be landslides more durable. Mine have been.

 

NOTE - the stock headcover leaves a fair amount of the face susceptible to dings. It's covered, but, not well/doesn't overlap. I'd get a different head-cover with magnets.

I had about 30 rounds on my Black Spider putter this season. The bottom still looks perfect. I did get a small paint chip on the back side of the shaft at the bottom. Otherwise the putter is still in great shape.

 

However I'm sending mine into Labworx to change up the colors this winter. I'll have them armor the shaft while it's there along with the head in some new colors. Now that I know this putter is staying it's time to change up the looks of it to make it a bit more custom.

I believe it is 355 with the stock 2 gram weights. I put in 2 10 gram weights and it was a tad heavy for me. Today, I found 2 8 gram weights and it's money!!!

I use 2x 14 gram weights in my JD at 34” and it has been money all 2017 and will be in 2018. Might add a sightline.

These putter are smoking hot. I have been waiting for a dj in the bst and they are selling so fast. Maybe a bit of hype?

As for the post above, for ME, this putter isn't hype. I love blade putters and tinker like crazy, but, if my life depended on me breaking 80, my spider would be in the bag.

 

That being said, different putters fit different strokes, of course. But, the Spider was a game changer for me in 2009 when I first started using it....just glad they're back thanks to Day going on that run with his and then DJ....
