Obee is baiting everyone into these the top 20 pro "destroys him" responses. This isn't your normal one trick poney "club scratch", this is a dude with a heavily tournament tested game that travels. I think the match goes down to the last hole and is very even.

The only thing that gets me is the length, obee isn't very long if I remember correctly. He could definitely win this one but I put his win rate at ~20% tops. Like my earlier post, staying within 6 at this type of course is basically saying you would have a chance to play the weekend at a PGA event

Been thinking about this and now that I have an Epic in the bag I only need 1 shot a side. Me vs DJ with 1 a side who's with me? :D lol Anyone who's played with professional players knows how good they really are. It's not really close unless your giving a lot of shots.

I agree on the length part. I just don't see Obee getting involved in a bet he thinks he has little to no chance in. Strokes in match play are also much more meaningful than medal.

Can we not get a week, without a thread about the Scratch player who thinks he's hot stuff and the proverbial PGA Tour player who's going to clean his clock, 90% of the time?

It's been re-hashed over and over and over again.

Virtually every PGA Tour Player has the potential to shoot 59-64 on the toughest courses in the world, every time he tees it up.

The typical Scratch Player's POTENTIAL is that he can shoot the Course Rating on a given day.

That's more than 1/2 stroke/hole guys.

I actually agree with you on principal. There are many factors including mainly who the players are and the course slope rating etc. Would like to see what odds are being offered. Of course I am a gambler so objectively I would have weigh things before making a comittment either way or the other. But it is fun reading this afternoon when it is raining and cold here

You have missed the point of this thread and your post is an insult to someone who has posted up several insightful and real experiences.

No gimmee on this one - triple bogey post.

I would bet my entire retirement the following:

---------------------------

1) The 2017 US junior amateur champion could wax every single golfwrx member giving 3 shots a side…

2) The 2017 US amateur champion would win giving them 6 shots a side…

3) Someone who is top 20 in the world could beat a scratch wrxer giving them 9 shots aside...

----------------------------

None of these matches would be close.

Well said Hawk. Obee has a great track record and the details in the stories always increase the likelihood of him having a fighting chance.

Your retirement is going to consist of a bread line and section 8 housing. US Am champ giving 6 a side???? US junior giving 3 a side??? ?????

Matt Hansen, Monte, Fireblade, Pat Burke, Bowdo (current PGA tour cardholder), Isaac, Robert Damron, and many many others.

Wasn't there an article 2 or 3 weeks ago here on Golfwrx comparing the difference between a scratch player and a TOUR Pro? If I recall correctly, the difference is frighteningly large.

Scratch isn't even good. People need to realize that. On said course (7200, 75.7, 146) an average 0 shoots 76-80 most days. Big deal.

What? Scratch is an elite level in the game of golf, no debate about it.

Inside top 2% of all golfers who maintain handicaps. Since most don't that statistic greatly understates the significance of how good a scratch golfer is.

You need to realize that! ;-)

Scratch would average about 78.7 on that course. Compared to tour golf scratch is no good at all.

If I got 3 a side on a 7200yd course I'd take on Pga tour player with the expectation that I'd win if I played well. Not saying I would gamble my house on it but I would put some cash up. If I shoot say -2 they would have to shoot 63 to beat me. That's not easy regardless of who you are.

What are the odds of a scratch shooting 5.7 strokes under the course rating? Never mind I looked it up. About 600-1. Maybe a bit higher. So sure, the scratch has a chance. :)

Well, anything can happen. That's why they play game. It's not played on paper. Enough cliches??

The scratch no doubt has to play near flawless. It would be nice if you could decide where the strokes fell.

Impossible? No. But odds aren't high. Can't wait to hear the story.

I hope you have an alternative plan for retirement?

You must be new on the site and not have a clue who some of the posters are.

Cmon Obee, spill the beans!

c'mon Ob's while were young :taunt:

Please don't.

Is there anyway I can block an entire thread from showing up on my feed?

If I read one more of the OP's "stroke by stroke, see how good I am" stories, I'll need extensive therapy ... worse than I already need.

Perhaps if OB was a member at 2 semi private clubs you'd think differently.
