Easiest Driver? (happy to sacrifice yards)

MGPT

Recommended Posts

Looking for a ridiculously forgiving easy launching driver. Don't care about looks and happy to lose some distance for accuracy.

I would love to play a shorter shafted driver but messing around with cutting shafts and altering swingweights isn't something I'm good at. Are there any OEM drivers out there that come with a 44" or shorter shaft as standard?

I have tried the aeroburner, 3deep, Rapture v2 and BB mini and didn't really care for any of them. Would prefer just a big head with plenty of loft and a nice short shaft.

I believe Titleist has the shortest stock lengths but that's still 45". However, you can place a custom order from any company to get a shorter driver length.

Or better yet use this: http://wishongolf.co...d-a-clubfitter/

to see if you can find someone to help you through the process.

As for most forgiving driver goes - everyone is a bit different with respect to what they specifically need to be forgiven but ... Ping G and Callaway BB Fusion, epic (and sub-zero with weight back), and Cobra F7 (weight back) top the list as far as MOI goes.

Callaway Fusion with stock 44.5" Recoil. Great driver! I can go after the ball as fast as I want and no worries about where the ball is going to go. Fairway finding and good distance.

12* ping k15 cut down to 44" is the easiest driver ever made

(just chop off the butt end with a hack saw, make sure to duct tape the area you're cutting first)

A cut down K15 helped my with my career high of 47 stableford points! This included an NR. The most accurate driver I have ever swung. Only reason it was pied was due to getting 25-30 yards more from a BB Fusion. It is worth noting that my Fusion has a 45" shaft.

I'd throw two into the ring -

Ping G30 with a 16g weight in the back (not the stock) on a Graf Pro Launch Blue 65 X cut to 44.5"

Nike "Lucky" 13* with six inches of lead tape cut to 44" on an Aldila Tour Green X

These drivers have two things in common. They have heavy heads, and they are short.

Ping K15. Just swing as hard as you want, hit any where on the club face and you are in the fairway. When I tested the K15 against the M1, M2 and Epic, the K15 was just as long or longer then any of them.

I play either a 10.5* or 12*. The 12* is just so friggin easy to hit it's laughable. I've scored in the 60's using this driver. Lots of my playing buddies make comments all the time about me hitting every single fairway. They are amazed when I ever miss one.

This one!...It's long, goes dead straight, and is super forgiving with good sound and feel!...A 'fairway finder' for sure, and no worries about sacrificing yards, instead you'll be gaining yards along with the great accuracy!...

Everybody is different. Go to a private clubmaker, he should get you closer than you'll get taking random recommendations.

If you just want to buy and try, call Hireko, tell them you want a thriver. It will probably cost under $150 new.

If you go to Spy's website, the Ping G30 has the highest MOI made in the last 3 years out off all the major OEMs (even though it didn't list the MOI of the G400).

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

"Loft for loft, length for length, and shaft for shaft, the ball will go the same distance when hit on the sweet spot regardless how old the iron."

OP, you'll most likely get a ton of responses but the truth is you can order just about ANY driver from an OEM at 44 inches. With that said, there isn't much more of a forgiving driver than the Ping G series. They are simply made to be forgiving!

I was going to give a /thread after the Fusion was mentioned but truth be told, MOI isn't everything. The driver/shaft combination still must swing "correctly" for YOU.

Pretty much any of the major manufacturer's "base" (i.e.most forgiving) drivers will work with the proper shaft and depending on how YOU like swinging it will give pretty much the same results.

Personally I LOVE my Ping irons but other than the Rapture V2 have never gotten along well with their drivers.

I'm playing the Fusion now for about 9 months and have never hit a straighter, more forgiving, driver although I keep trying to find one. I'm about to experiment with some different shafts to kill some of the spin to make it a bit longer but straight ? Not an issue.

Good luck.
