RECAPS: The TaylorMade #TwistFaceExperience. 7 GolfWRX members visit The Kingdom for an exclusive M3

Twist face will help the most with better players for sure

If I understand the idea behind the Twist Face, the idea is that the heel and toe areas are a little sharper angle away from the target, which will help to start heel & toe strikes start a little farther left/right of the line so it counteracts the gear effect somewhat (I'd think this would exacerbate sidespin and cancel out, but I'm no physicist). Regardless of how effective it is, it seems like this will be more helpful for higher handicappers versus Tour pros and better players who hit the sweet spot more often than not.

In actual numbers from center, 15mm higher and 15mm toward the toe has .5* open and .5* more loft. Going the other direction, 15mm lower and 15mm toward the heel has .5* less loft and .5* closed.

TM data showed 75-80% of golfers misses on the high toe resulted in low spinning hooks and misses on the low heel resulted in high spinning fades.

Twist Face gives the diving hook more loft and spin and the heel fade less loft and spin. Everyone was very clear that this is not a miracle that will save really poor strikes and for the misses that don't fall into these categories the results would be different.

I know several people brought up the toe fade. That miss will most likely go a touch further right, for a right handed golfer, than it otherwise would. I had two of them late in the round today, but it never got me in trouble and there was no noticeable difference to me with that miss than with the G400.

Low spinning hooks is the main problem I had and catastrophic miss with the Epic that the 917 doesn't have. With my SS hitting that toe hook miss is going to end up in a really bad place 95% of the time unless it hits something :) Good to know, interested to try this driver now. Also, did you guys notice the sweet spot was bigger? That's another interesting thing to me.

Thanks!

Is the twist face more effective on misses toward the toe or heel? High/low on the face? Does the twist feel weird when it actually does what it's supposed to do?

It's the difference of roughly a half degree, on certain parts of the face, from the standard bulge and roll... and it's actually done to slightly minimize the effect that bulge and roll create. Toe and heel strikes are still going to feel like toe and heel strikes.

Well that sucks for me lol

And, in your case, crown strikes will feel like crown strikes, as well. LOL

I hate you

Yes, I perceived the sweet spot to be bigger and certainly friendlier. I was swinging horribly during my fitting yesterday and was not producing my normal shot shapes and/or strikes. My smash factor was terrible (for me) averaging 1.42 without eliminating a few real clunkers. That's pretty poor for my HC.

Anyway, all of the new M3/M4 heads produced better patterns than my Epic SZ during this session. The nose-diving pull hook was most noticeably mitigated. Very cool to hit one out of the toe, feel the face torque at impact, yet see the ball resist diving hard left as you might normally expect.

Thankfully I hit it reasonably well on the course today and felt like I had more of what would be my normal swing going. I just wish I beat Jory for that $300 bottle of Caymus Special Select... (he birdied 18 and we halved, so no blood...lol?) but Rob and I lost to Ryan (Ham) and Matt (Eggs).

Good thing I had that insurance bet with Chris (Gamble Gamble)!?

Anyone else notice that Xander S. is now sponsored by Callaway, but appears to be gaming an M4 at the Sony?

Any chance TM will offer a high loft version of the M3 or M4 Driver?

12* on the Taylormade website now. So yes. If you look at my signature I have HL clubs everywhere. Cant wait to hit the M4.

I see that now. I was hoping they would issue a 14-degree too.

Seems like launch is much easier as alot of guys are under current lofts unlike SLDR

From what I saw, Xander is still playing his M2 and his P750s. Not a great look for Callaway when they touted the switch as being done for the equipment. At least Sergio switched into the new gear quickly.

And Wes Bryan took driver out of his bag and, according to Jerry Foltz, said he might not put it back in until after the FL swing because he had no control with it. Sounds like he needs Twist Face :D

I tried the M1/M2 in 12-degree and they were too low launch for me. So yes, the M3/M4 is a new product, perhaps they are higher launching than both the SLDR and the M1/M2. Will be interested to see once these are available.

Ok. Help :help: me out here, I'll try to explain this the best I can. I will wear out the toe be for any sweat spot.. So its like 15mm on the toe that has the twist face? You'll get different results when hitting it in different parts of the 15mm, yes?

Last I heard he was on a 10pm redeye last night. Hopefully got in and some shuteye.

Haha thanks for your concern.

I just got back due to a few delays with AA. I have an outline of the trip I worked on at the airport but I’m deliriously tired and I doubt I could put together a coherent sentence

Did anyone on the trip view the new drivers as real game changers? And if so, why?

My swing felt really rusty/tense during our round but the usual toe hook that I fight went from a hook to a mini fade during fittings.

For me that aspect is huuuuuge.

If I can keep hooks off the menu I can score 77-83, if the hooks show up... pick a number between 85-95 on my current course. Also because of the new aerodynamics and that I wasn’t as concerned about missing a little off center, I was able to swing 4 mph faster with the m3 v g400.

High Toe. To my eye, this has the best shape of the "high toe" wedge designs out there. More compact look and a fun wedge around the greens. Look for this line to expand in the future.

Maybe I missed it but did anyone say what lofts the Hi-Toe Wedge will come in?

I hit both the 60 and 64

Noticed that also. SLDR/R15 was 12° for me. But my ’17 M1was a 10.5 that I played 2 notches higher. I’m wondering if I could play at 10.5 straight in. Kind a looking forward to testing that
