In 2009, I got new irons for the first time in 14 years.

 

One of the big challenges was finding a wedge mix amid all the specialty models that had popped up in the early 2000s.

 

For a while I played 46 + 50 + 56. Then, I played 46 +50 + 54 + 58 for about 6 years.

 

For the most part, 60° wedges just didn't work for me.

 

In summer of 2016 I really tested out wedges. And I went from four down to three (see below). And, I found I could use the 60* MD-PM with the U-grind quite well. The sole grind made all the difference.

I picked up a 62 over this winter that will go into the bag at the start of the season.

Too many times when I couldn't get the 58 to stop quick enough on short sided pins.

We'll see how it works out.

 

I have a 62º. Great for shots when you don't have a lot of green to work with, and any kind of flop shot. Great out of green side bunkers too.

Mine is Cally MD4 W Grind 60*/12 bended to 59*/11. I use it for deep bunker shots, grass bunker shots, flop shots and tight pins which requires high or low spinny shots. It took my former Cally PM 64 out of the bag because MD4 gives me more consistent options with great spins. :taunt:

60 bent weak to 61+, but grinded nicely. Crucial for short shots and super wedges around fast greens.

I currently play a 58 degree MD3 W grind. Also have a lower bounce 58 degree SM5 M grind however I struggled laying the sod over it so I got the MD3. I also considered the vokey K grind but got the MD3 at a deal I couldn't pass up.

I’ve dabbled with 62 and 64 in the past, but found that I could flop the 58 just as well and screw the shot up less.

I’ve been carrying a 56* as my highest lofted club, and get along pretty well here, where it’s pretty flat and our bunkers aren’t very deep. But on a recent trip to Phoenix (and some deep bunkers), after one round I made a stop at PGA SS and added a matching 60*.

58K for me as well. No problems opening it up. Usually a steep bunker club though.Only other time I use it is when I am short sided and there is a bunker in front of me to a tight pin. I like to use my 54 more around the greens then the 58.

Mac daddy rarely gets out, hogan is just the boobs, rotex sees most play as it gives me the best ball control....my sw is usually 55/56 so gapping is fine

58. I have played a 60 before and I find the 58 to be more versatile.

I've carried a 60* wedge since I got my first Eye2 BeCu back in the last I virtually never play without it.

 

In addition, when I am in AZ for winter golf, I usually add a higher lofted wedge to account for the firm conditions. I currently have an oldish Cleveland 62*/12* that's bent a degree or two weaker.

 

With that, around the green I can do everything the same as I do up north in the summer, and get about the same amount of carry and roll. I almost never use either one for full shots.

 

Mind you, for at least 25-30 years I have used a technique like Phil's hinge and hold method, and I hit even the 63* wedge really, really low. Like 8-iron chipshot low.

 

Started doing it with the BeCu and balata and never saw a reason to change.

I have a 64 degree Callaway Sureout. I use it mainly for full swing shots from 80 yards out but it's also awesome for getting out of bunkers which I believe is the real intention behind it. No need to open the face, just swing :)

 

But yeah I bought it because I'm poor at chipping and poor at partial swings and it lets me still do a full swing at 80 yards. It's also good for scaring low flying aircraft :D

Mine is 60. I use it for chips and pitches within 60ish yards. I seem to blade it beyond that distance, so then I just go to my 54.
