Make switch to PXG?

Recommended Posts

You all got me thinking of taking my set to golf galaxy to get lifts and lies checked.

You should check them for sure. Every club was off with my Gen 2 set.

Your Gen 2 clubs were off? I thought this was just a Gen 1 issue due to volume? That's terrible to have that inconvenience.

I sent PXG a note through IG that their quality of clubs have been put on notice here. Doubt they will care but doesn't hurt to inform them.

They may have an allowable variation of +/- 4*

You would hope not. You could buy a set from a petrol station with tolerances less than that!

I was joking. The only thing I can figure is there are more hands involved on a single set and human error is the issue. Maybe even using different machines.

Reminds me of the TM P790 irons I had....lofts all off and swingweights way off (knew that would likely be the case).

My GEN2's came from a Pro builder and were perfect!

Do you think they outsource the actual club building?

No, they have a dept that builds clubs.

But they have independent clubmakers who purchase heads and then fit the customer and build the clubs - which is a great way to do it.

The specs on mine are off. I ordered standard length and standard swingweight, which is supposed to be D1 on the 4-9 and D3 on the W. They weigh in at D3 on 4-9 and D4 on the W. And no it’s not my scale, I calibrated it before I weighed these.

Some of the lengths are off a little as well. 1/16” short here, 1/16” long there. I know 1/16”isn’t much, but for a company that touts precision, you would think lengths would be exact.

Loft and lie angles are off a bit as well. Anywhere from .5* to over 1* on a couple irons.

Say what you want about them, their feel is comparable to Endo and Miura... And their Heros program is LEGIT. That price with their feel and forgiveness are unmatchable.

My friend just benched his J15CBs (which ironically he said would never be replaced).

A month later he plays the PXG 300F irons paired with SF95s and couldn't be happier.

Hmm the bat attack was much nicer today than before when I tried it. The operator was pretty awesome. They had all PXG putters but the one I wanted to try the mustang. Didn’t care for the drone at all. The dagger was much heavier than I would have imagined, in a good way.

Also had a good day with a spider that i have never before had. Weird. Wish I could get a center shafted spider. Used to have a white one 5 or so years ago and loved it.

Got fitted for gen1 today with KBS TGI graphite iron. Awesome experience. I think in the end I gain almost a club and a half with it. Tighter dispersion with half degree upright. For $175 a club these are really good. I tried Mizuno 919 and Ping i500. Did not care for 919 at all, Ping was good, but a little clicky while PXG are just solid.

There is a new kid on the block and Wow do they look SWEET! This is what a set of irons should look like its called New Level Golf, PXG needs to ditch the screws and start designing something that resembles what irons should look like. Looks like its time for a price drop on the Gen 2's as this is not what Mr. Parsons wants to hear. For those who can't wait then yes go for the Gen 1's as the $2200 plus for the Gen 1's is no way worth it when the performance is nearly identical

Ordered a Mustang C last week. Interested to see if it will knock the Scotty 2.6 out of the bag. Couldn't pass up the price through the Heroes Program.

Another "PXG Hater" post from the guy who swears he's not. So glad the almighty all knowing has spoken, now we all know what a set of irons should look like. Thanks for clearing that up.

I just couldn't justify spending $3K on a set of irons, even half that, unless custom fitted seems ridiculous, but if can afford it, go for it.....then again, there's always Epon and Miura

Yeah, I gotta agree with you on this one. If I'm going to spend $3k, I'm getting the full custom fitting experience for clubs I could mount on a wall as art.

To each his own though. As long as your purchases let you enjoy the game, go for it. That's why we are all here.

Go get fitted and order Gen 1 from the site. Hell, club to club it appears the Gen 1 is less expensive than CF16.

That's the shaft I got too. They arrive tomorrow. My excitement is a bit tempered by reports of the specs being off.

I could take them to Club Champion and pay to have them checked/adjusted, but that's going to be an annoyance.

What route are you guys going with PXG driving irons? Can anyone comment as to their flight?

I don't have the driving iron but do have a "2" iron, see below for shaft. This thing is a mid - low flight rocket launcher, very forgiving and easy to hit off any turf.

Let me clear up what I said. Good catch as you know exactly what I meant as The Gen 2's are not $2200 or however much more than that over the Gen 1's especially when the performance is nearly identical. Ok cleared that up for you. Something that has 9 screws in an iron takes some getting used too as no you don't see it when you address the ball but are your telling me the New Levels don't look good. I'm not getting a set or will I be getting a Vertical Groove drive. What I have is working just fine for me but thanks for your advice. I just mentioned that there is a New Kid on the Block so PXG might need to start lowering the price soon on the Gen 2's. The New Levels may flop but who knows as its a good thing Bob is a billionaire to keep the company running.

Also you know this as well as I do it would be nice to see a new kid on the block do well if it meant the the Gen 2's would come down in price, unless you already bought a set of the Gen 2's for the full price and think everyone else should also
