What Does Callaway Have In Store For 2019?

Recommended Posts

The Rogue Sub Zero vs the Epic Flash Sub Zero. I Will do a full testing on the GCquad tomorrow, as my Flash just came in today.

Early report is the head is def taller and more compact, so it looks smaller at address. Face also looked flatter for whatever reason. It felt phenominal. Early reports are WOW. I expected it to be about the same as rogue but so far so good.

Nice pics. Can you offer a comparison shot at address against the rogue?

Are those Club Champion Adapters in those?

Was just at the Club Champion headquarters in Willowbrook IL. hoping that they had their heads ready for fitting. Unfortunately they did not and the word from the top was hopefully by the release date.

Confirms what I was told yesterday here in Philly! Ugh

If you are in philly i can fit you today lol. I have all the clubheads in.

43 degree PW in the standard Apex set??? It will be interesting to see what the lofts are for the combo set.

Wow. Really wasn't expecting a 43* PW. Why why why. Yes I know they can be bent but.....

During my rep meeting, the statement was made that both the new Apex irons (std and Pro) should show about a full club more length iron to iron over the previous gen, so even without seeing the specs at that time, I kind of figured the lofts would be strengthened more on these sets.

Honestly, it could be a deal breaker for me. I am hoping the combo set is 45 or 46*

It is a dealbreaker for me. That’s a 9 iron, not a pw. Now you have to buy a pw and a gap wedge.

Before everyone goes crazy on a 43* PW, lets remember that there are other variables that alter apex height, distance, etc. I can give you 2 43* clubs that have a 20 yard difference in distance. I agree with CHPAR in #1573, lets wait to see how the ball flies with that loft before making a final determination. On the surface it does seem a little ridiculous...

Agree about the lofts being a bit ridiculous, but my work-around for that is that I'm ordering my Apex set with the length and lie angle such that the clubs will actually be the next club up from what they are stamped. PW is actually the 9 iron and so on, and I'll have an MD4 48* for the actual PW.

Callaway is far and away my favorite club company but a 43* Apex Pitching wedge is a joke. Consumers shouldn’t have to carry 5 wedges to cover all the gaps in their bag.

The weekend warriors that I play with grew up chipping with a pitching wedge and maybe a sand wedge to get out of traps and really short sided chips. These guys aren’t club dorks like we are. They’re flat out average consumers and to this day they can’t figure out why they can’t stop a 30 yard pitch with a PW. They don’t know they’re basically hitting a 9 iron with a super springy face.

I understand what you’re saying but I still disagree. I think it’s easier to drastically change flight apex, launch and spin with a longer club by adjusting loft and CG. Once you get into the 8,9 and PW we’re talking about scoring clubs now. We’re not always hitting a full shot with these clubs or trying to max out our distance.

A 43* wedge might make sense in the Bertha irons but I strongly dislike it in the apex.

I already hit my PW 150 yards living at altitude in Colorado. I have no desire to hit it further. Plus, at 43* it could create a host of gapping issues as my next closest wedge is a 50* gap wedge. I know they can be bent weak, but perhaps the combo set might be more in line for me.

Let me be clear, these looks STUNNING and I'll absolutely be buying a set - they just won't work in the off the rack configuration for me. Look forward to seeing the lofts on the combo set.

I think what he is saying is that it may not actually go that much farther just because the loft is lower

I'm going;

Apex PW weakened 2° = 45°

SM7 50 weakened 1° = 49°

SM7 54 = 54°

Callaway PM 58 strengthened °1 = 59°

Best!

My 7i spin rate was up around 2000 rpms over the rogue pro. If it creates a lower, more spinny flight, I think i would be able to control it a little easier, especially in wind. I need to hit them outside over a few sessions to truly determine if my dispersion is tighter. I do understand hitting multiple different distances can be harder with lower loft, but added spin might negate it. Ill be interested to test it.
