43* PW is not ideal.

Honestly, it could be a deal breaker for me. I am hoping the combo set is 45 or 46*

It is a dealbreaker for me. That's a 9 iron, not a pw. Now you have to buy a pw and a gap wedge.

what a racket marketing is.. how many people will be fooled by this trick. I want my pops to buy these but at that price, and to add 2 new wedges on top. forget it. Ping i210s at their price are going to be the best sellers this year - AND they offer juiced lofts if you're into that sort of thing

I carry a 6-AW. The numbers on the bottom don't matter. Who cares?

which is really 5-PW. the numbers on the bottom DO matter, you configure the rest of your set based off what set of irons you get.

what I'm saying is the marketing is all fraudulent. They're baiting most into buying 4-AW (8 club set) which is really going back to the old 3-PW model (based on degree). other factor here is what is the standard length? A 42 PW at std PW length is a 9 iron from the 60s. They cant make the scoring clubs too much longer because angle of decent and spin rates will suffer. They know that most players don't care how far their 34 degree travels, its how far they hit their 7 iron. So they'll say your 7 iron is going a full club further. which is nonsense.

The manufacturer just wants the consumer to buy more clubs in a world where the last 4/5 years they've lost out selling only 6/7 club sets. They also know the hybrid is dead with these juiced long irons making a comeback and they're attempting to capitalize by trying to curb the slowdown in hybrid sales (where the profit margin in cost is substantial). I don't blame them, but I'm not buying in. My PW will be 48 forever and I'll happily hit 9 iron where y'all hit wedge.

I understand that it’s really a 5-pw except my head does not explode that it’s 6-A. I have zero gapping issues my next wedge after A is 54 then a 58. At the top I go from 6 to a 23 hybrid. I don’t care if I hit my 6 iron 190 or 150. It doesn’t matter.

They aren’t baiting me to get 4-aw either. The website has 50 different options for set makeup. The brick and mortar stores display the 4-aw. I don’t want that. I want 6-aw. 6 clubs. I have hybrids and wedges already.

Combo set looks interesting to me. Has the standard Apex finish(which I prefer over shiny Chrome), and goes down to A wedge to address the jacked lofts concerns.

I hit these today. Really liked the Apex and may just go 5-GW even though I’ve always gone 4-PW. However, I can’t find the specs for the combo set.

PS. The Elevate Tour was awesome.

$1,399?

i was looking forward to the release and convinced myself the Apex would be my new set of irons.

This price tag just changed my mind. I use graphite shafts in irons now and wont pay $1499 for a set of irons

Can't believe it. Held off buying ap3s because of the 43 PW and waited for these and now Callaway has done the same trick. Will need to buy the set 48, drop my 50 and have a gap to the 54. What a coincidence that the 43 happens to be exactly the same as Ap3.

Just hit the Apex and Apex Pro. Solid offerings!

I just have to say a word I laughed at people about before, but if an iron ever felt "clicky" to me, these are it. Easy to hit, long, but there's just something off for me in the feel department.

The driver, however, was something I would spend money on for sure.

Not sure about $550, though...

I hit both Apex models today as well. Was especially trying to be aware of the “clicky” feel that’s been mentioned. I didnt find that to be the case at all. I loved the feel of the pros standard Apex were fine but not as good in my opinion. I played the CF16 4 iron in my old set, that club was “clicky” to me in comparison to the new Apex. My numbers were much better with the pros and I found the elevate shaft to be ok, just not ideal for me compared to a few other shafts that I tried. I will definitely pull the trigger on the pros, finally found something to kick my 2013 XForged out of the bag.

So I hit the Epic Flash Sub Zero and Apex Pro’s today. Also compared them to the Apex Pro 16’s and got some serious gains in ball speed and total carry with the 7 iron over the 16’s, spin was very very very low though, around 4600 but with a total carry around 185 compared to 175, big gains but with lower spin. Also one thing I want to note: The feel on the new Apex Pro’s was in my honest opinion, much much worse than the 16 Apex Pro’s, don’t know if the Urethane Microspheres had anything to do with it but it felt VERY VERY clicky, the 16 Apex Pros were much softer and more muted. So safe to say that my Srixons are safe for now. Will go back tomorrow and try them out again.

The Epic Flash Sub Zero was very impressive, felt very forgiving across the face and ball speeds were right up there with my TS2 around 160-162 mph. Will also try it again tomorrow.

Overall pretty impressed with the new range from Callaway, not blown away but very impressed.

Those Apex Pro smoke irons really look great. So pissed they went PVD finish even though I have had no problems with my set of Black CF16's. Yes they show wear but nowhere near as much as that terrible finish that Taylormade put on the P790 blacks.

It amazes me that a smaller player like Cobra can satisfy their customers and provide a premium black finish but a market share leader like Callaway just cheapens out. And that is coming from a huge callaway fanboy who loves their offerings. If I hit these and they perform I would buy a set for sure just not at retail price with an upcharge for an inferior finish. I'll be waiting 9 months and get them for 60% of the price on CPO. Truth is all of these manufacturers put out amazing offerings it really comes down to what you like the look of and what makes you feel confident. No set of sticks is going to be a magical unicorn that starts making you hit greens if you didn't previously. I was able to snag the new Cobra CB/MB Black combo set brand new for half of the retail price of these Apex Smoke and there is no way they are an inferior club compared to the apex.

Play golf, enjoy the game, buy whatever you like playing and looking at, don't let other wrx' ers tell you how to spend your money or how many of a certain club you should have, do you and just temper expectations and know it's always gonna be the fault of the Indian not the arrow..

Happy Flag hunting to all in 2019

thanks, but I don't get much from these launch monitor tests on Youtube. A lot of clubs are great in the test bay but not so great in the great outdoors. More interested in what members here say about their on course experiences. I have the Apex CF16's and I like them, would esp. like to see how the '19 versions compare
