Ping Sigma2 Putters

Recommended Posts

Has this been asked yet? Just how much damage to the edges of the cups will the "Fetch" do? In addition, how many scratches, dings and dents will the "Fetch" take on as sloppy golfers jam their putter into the cup, clanging off the hard plastic rims?

A bad idea whose time has NOT come.

Very bad idea. :ban: :angry22:

The Fetch isn’t for me, but I think it’s a great idea compared to the thing in the grip people use to get the ball out of the hole.

What if you hate the grip? Does it affect the putter if you change it ?

I don't recall who, but I recall someone saying as long as the grip had a hole in the top, it would work.

I am not trying to be that annoying person on here but hopefully a few can help me out here. I am debating pulling the trigger on the Vault Dale Anser but wanted to roll the Sigma 2 first before committing.

Am I right in thinking that since I have found PING’s last few insert lines of putters being the Scottsdale TR, Cadence TR and Sigma G too soft for my liking, "will I in all likelihood find the Sigma 2’s too soft?" <<--answer, yes. Feel is subjective but I am trying to think about this logically.

and to address all the concerns.... after trying it my impression is possible damage being done by using the Fetch should be a non issue. it fits easily, and works flawlessly.

edit: but FWIW during usage it did not snatch up surlyn cover balls as well as it did urethane cover balls. just an observation.

Why does everyone want a softer feel to their putter?

I would rather have a feel that tells me I hit the putt.

I want an audible sound not a marshmallow feel along with a soft feeling ball that gives you no feedback so you do not even know that you hit the ball.

Odyssey oworks face is the most muted face I've tried and it's selling pretty well. I think golf brands have created this notion that "soft" is quality. Also some people like the feel that the ball is hot off the face becuase of the delayed feedback.

I would like to know if this adjustment system will stay intact if you decide to change the stock grip out. Seeing the design it sure would be possible for it to be.

It looks like the adjuster is just a screwdriver that fits through the hole of the putter grip.

Ping is releasing some great looking stuff lately

Wow! You play a Newport 2 and you actually think these are great looking stuff? :swoon:

So really, a putter with a big hole in the middle of it so someone can stuff their club down into the cup and tear it up is a great idea! It's just gotten way out of control with what companies will do to sell golf clubs. Not just with this line, but Ping have been slowly creeping into the crackpot territory.

Younger golfers don't think about this but older golfers really value a tool that helps with retrieving the ball from the hole. Devices that attach to the end of the grip are actual very popular. Same goes for ball retrievers from the water. In addition I can't tell you how many people I have met who have purchased a putter just becuase "it can pick up the ball with the back end".

There are a lot of older golfers with bad knees, backs, hips, etc. who can still play the game but struggle to reach the ground AND that couple extra inches down into the hole can really press their flexibility/range of motion. If you’ve ever played with a golfer with bad knees you’ve seen how ugly it can be for them to try to pick a ball out of the hole.

I’m not defending this thing but it’s an attempt at a solution to a legitimate problem for some players. The things that stick into the end of the putter grip to grab the ball seem to be a safer option for not damaging the edge of the cup.

You can't possibly believe that the player who needs this club because it can pick up a ball out of the hole will be "careful" when doing so. Most of that group don't even putt out most of the time by my experience. What they really need is a putter with a pitch mark repair tool built into it....one that works. Sometimes it's hard to believe how few people even attempt to repair the damage they do to greens, whether it's to the cup, pitch marks, dragging their feet, etc....or even know how to do it properly without causing more damage.

Ping tweeted to me that available nov 1. For those wondering like me, they do not have any plans to offer the slant neck for the fetch :(

well think of it dude, a slant neck Fetch wouldn't "fetch" anything outta the hole.

haha i guess youve got a point... would make it a little tougher.

also, I don't think it will be as big a deal as many are making it out to be.... unless people around here are just that much better about course care?

Forever Changing at this point.......

I am not sure if anyone watches James Robinson's videos on YouTube but he has been playing one in his last few videos and he seems to have no issues using the putter (and not damaging the hole) to remove his ball.

Wouldn’t think that golfers that “don’t putt out” would hit many greens and thus they wouldn’t need a pitch mark haha
