Odd, I don't remember Phil saying this would be a problem leading up to the Captain's picks.

 

Apparently the only thing about the Ryder Cup that Phil does not control is the European course set up. I'm sure he'll have that oversight corrected in 2022.

Justin Rose ripped the folks who set up Hazeltine for the opposite reasons in 2016.

However, would've been nice if he would have come up with an injury shortly after his captains pick. This would have afforded Captain Furyk to find a replacement who could hit a narrow fairway.

 

Haney said his in conversations with DL3, the data and analytics told them to take Kuchar and or Zach Johnson but they couldn't because of all the pressure to pick Phil. Seems like either of those guys would've fared better than Lefty.

Well he really only had opportunities to have birdie putts on 32 of those holes due to being beat 4&3 and 3&1 the other1 round being alternate shot. (he sat out Friday afternoon) but I do agree that he didn't play well at all... I forgot Sundays round he lost 2&1 so actually 49 holes playing his own ball.

One thing I've learned about Phil is that with his comments they are often ready fire aim. Like his laughable justification for his shenanigans at the US Open. If he would just not spew all this oral flatulence he'd be better off.

To be fair, the GOAT, Roger Federer, has done the same thing over in tennis. He's skipped the entire clay court season the last two years to prevent injury and it's his worst surface.

 

I just wish Phil had said this before the Ryder Cup when he declined his invitation.

Phil’s comments were idiotic just as Thomas Pieters comments about Hazeltine were idiotic. There isn’t one single template for a golf course design. That’s one of the things that makes Golf interesting. Play the course in front of you. Sometimes that means your strengths are neutralized to some degree. Props to the Euros for understanding their strengths and setting up a course to highlight it and props to the US in ‘16 for the same reason. Suck it up boys
