Cobra's new King F9 Speedback Driver, Woods, Hybrids and Irons (NO BUY SELL TRADE POSTS)

You guys are killing me with all the talk of how great the driver is! I’m torn because I know how good the fairway is, but I truly love my G400 max. I’m thinking I should get the driver, but I think I’ll wait and pick up a head when they’re out there and have it so I can make a decision based on a head to head battle when the season (and my swing) are more in normal form. The fairway was such an easy decision because it was such an improvement for me over last seasons play with the Rogue and the M3 and M4. So I’m going to avoid putting one in my hands and trying it. We’ll see how long that lasts though...lol. So for the love of God, PLEASE stop talking about it!

Tell me about this 3 wood and why you say such an improvement. Really struggling to find a 3w that suits me - F8 wasn't it, but neither was Rogue or M3/4....thanks

First of all, feel. Very subjective, I know, but it feels very solid, but sift in that you feel like the ball sucks into the face for a moment. Second, sound. It sounds like a fairway metal should sound like (again subjective)

Third it sits perfectly behind the ball for me. With the Rogue and the M3/4, I had to fidget with my stance and never really felt comfortable behind either. Finally, trajectory for me is what I want to see in a fairway.. a nice steady rise, then flatten out and carry.

It doesn’t hurt that it’s a good 15 yards longer than either the Cally or TM for me either.

I know that’s mostly all “subjective”, but it all adds up to confidence, which in a fairway wood is huge for me.

Sounds promising. I have struggled to find a fairway wood that I feel comfortable behind. It is pretty much as you describe with your Rogue M3/M4 experience. I just haven't had one that I can set behind the ball and feel confident in my setup for quite a while. I picked up an 917F3 and love the shape of it. But, I am planning on testing 3 woods soon as I have some gift cards to burn. This is on the radar. I just can't get behind the Callaway head shape, the M4 looks huge, and the M5 is too $$$. I imagine the Atmos TS is a stock option? I think the blue would be a great fairway shaft.

I’m using the TS blue that I used last year in the others. I also have a TS red in a 5 wood that is perfect for when I carry a 5 wood. I’m guessing the stock Atmos Blue is the same as last years, but the bubbles in the graphics made me believe us wasn’t the true TS. I guess I should try it and see, or sell it, but I really prefer the previous TS shafts that are much less busy.

Haven't gotten a good look at them yet. Bubbles in the finish, or different graphics?

Are you sure there wasn't options to choose shaft? Might wanna double check before you hit your first ball.

When I pre-ordered a week ago, there wasn't a 'custom' option on the Canadian (cobragolf.ca) site. There is now, of course. Looking at the no-upcharge shafts, I likely would have picked this shaft regardless.

Are different weights available anywhere yet? If i need to mess with total headweight for SW purposes..

I called yesterday and asked when they’d have individual weights and was told it would be late this week or next week, and we’d know because they’d put them up in the website under “accessories”. I’ll post in here when I see them as I’m wanting a set of fairway weights just to do some testing.

Just got fitted into the f9 and thought I’d share my findings below.

Handicap: between +1 and 1

Swing speed: old driver 116mph with f9 119mph

Old driver: 9* Ping G driver w/ tour 65x

Fit into: 10.5 f9 with 6.5 smoke shaft

Despite my swing speed I have always been classed as low launch/low spin for a stock shot.

Over the last 2 years nothing’s been able to beat the ping out. Cobra f8+ At 10.5 Beat it out in terms of ball speed and launch but not dispersion last year, but didn’t pull the trigger as it went a little too left on me.

Went into the fitting and started with my ping with pretty solid numbers for me. Around 116 SS, 9* launch. 260m carry (I only care about carry due to my courses soft conditions)

Started with the 9 degree fastback which yielded faster ball speed and more distance, but was a little low for my liking. Moved to the 10.5 degree head and voila! Carry distance went up to 270m and launch went up 3 degrees to 12.1* with spin staying the same as the ping (around 2000). Ball speed was up 3mph on the ping.

Never thought I’d move away from ping due to the forgiveness, but this f9 is the real deal. Low heel shots weren’t too far off centre and retained great ball speed.

Any questions please shoot them through!

The F9 hasn't beat my G400 LST out yet. I get a round today and one more tomorrow and a bit more testing on the range. I have played 9 holes twice and some range time so far. It is a touch longer and seems more forgiving but I know I can chalk that up to longer shaft (which I am going to cut down a bit), lower trajectory and run out. Dispersion is going to be the key. I am having to get used to a bit more draw bias in the Cobra. Its a good club for sure but I'm still on the fence.

Just got back from the shop, hit a couple of new things the F9 included.

Feel is just what every review is saying: Awesome!

Looks: looks are a BIG deal to me. I didn't hate the gloss/yellow head, looked great in fact, but did not fall in love with it. They had the matte/white heads, but only in the plastic wrap so they still looked kind of glossy and I couldn't get a real feel for the way it looked. I'm still on the fence about the color I would go with.

Performance was as good as anything I have ever hit. Attached is my best shot with the F9 9* weight forward Hzrdus Smoke 6.5. Can't get much better than that with my swing.

No. I have a AD BB 7S in the Ping. I actually have had the Smoke in the Ping as well though. I really like the Smoke shaft. Used a demo of the Titleist TS3 at my club for a few rounds. Tried the Evenflow White and the Smoke. There was no contest for my swing; Smoke won hands down. Even wanted to like the White better as its such a hot looking shaft. I have an extra BB in the basement and I have almost put a Cobra tip on it a few times but I just haven't jumped yet.

I will say after today's round I am warming up to the Cobra even more. I put some swings on it that were absolute trash and it still found the fairway with good distance. Thats how I measure if a driver will stay in the bag. The Ping has never been the longest driver for me but it has always been the consistently longest through good swing days and terrible swing days. This Cobra is right there too.
