Justin Rose to Honma

Rickie only appeals to kids. Rose has broader fan base. And is light years better.

Disagree. Rickie is universally liked. At least down south. Justin Rose ? He's not hated. But you aren't seeing anybody saying " oh man where's rose at today ... hope he lights it up ". I like the guy. But he doesn't have a real following at all.

Hate to break it to you chap, but there is more to the golf world than the States. Over here, close to the country that invented the game, he's a bit of a big deal. Whether it brings Honma more sales or not remains to be seen, but to say he doesn't have a real following is bollocks.

Lol. I guess follow the money.

Yep, but "you chap" didn't buy those Nikes because of Rose! Tiger, Tiger, Tiger (don't even pretend it was Paul Casey).

Rose to continue with TP5 balls. Confirmed.

Don't blame him. Solid ball choice. With the new one being unveiled with a better cover (previous was dog poop), it's a win.

..I've been using the Honma TW series balls for the past year...they're excellent and I wouldn't be surprised if JR gives them a try and even likes them!!

Is that right? I did hear the Honma has some rollers out there but haven't been able to really read about them too much. Mostly impromptu and jargon speech when it comes to the balls but, cool nonetheless. I wouldn't mind giving there series a roll. That 6 piecer definitely intrigues me the most.

If the big flower sees something in them, I wouldn't be surprised if he moved around to them. Noone really knows if he still had a deal with TM and their ball as far as I am aware but, if he does then it won't be too easy to get out of that. I am sure TM does want him on some of their swag given that he is World #1.

I’m going out on a limb here and saying Rickie with Cobra/Puma has the closest thing to a blank check outside of someone like tiger and maybe Rors. While Rose might be a big thing over across the pond he doesn’t move product and that’s why TM and apparently Adidas no longer have himmunder contract.

Say what you want about Rose and moving the needle, this would be the first Honma thread that had gone 12 pages.

..not that surprising..Honma is the first "true" Japanese OEM to have a bonafide top PGA tour player on their roster---with apologies to Mizuno which is more of an "Americanized" Japanese brand..

the LPGA on the other hand have many stars using "true" Japanese OEM stuff!! for many years now...

IMHO top of the line Japan OEM equipment "made in Japan" has the best quality control in the world---bar none!!

Pretty sure they started producing clubs in China over the past year or two.

That being said, Honma still makes great clubs.

I wish I had more of a chance to hit their driver and compare it to my gamer. It was great from the eye test during the demo days :)

Cobra aren't really support much other than Lexi, DeChambeau, and Rickie. They def have other people out there but, their presence isn't felt as much. Bryson had a hell of a year and Lexi finished up hot along with some of that drama craziness she had. Rickie is just an icon and he is looking better and better all the time. Here is hoping he turns in some serious wins this year.

Honma and Rose, I see it happening and making sense. I don't know who else they support. Looks like 14 other pros (not including Rose) and all have accolades in the Asian market and LPGA. I see Rose as being their flagship guy with being World #1 and playing a big part at the Ryder Cup and I'm sure they can pay his bill easily.

Taylormade have some serious names still. In my mind, the deadliest of all players are on their payroll still.

In the end, it's really respectable with what Rose is doing. I am wondering if there is something going on behind the scenes with him and TM but, I think it's quite unlikely. Bad blood ain't really his game and he is keeping their ball in play so, things are probably still smooth.

that's true too...but Yonex is more of a sporting goods line like Wilson,Spaulding,Rawlings, etc....

Honma is purely golf equipment and accesories..

What is that critter in the "O" of their logo.

Looks like a seal or beaver.

I think the lucky mole is growing on me but I think it’s maybe a little too friendly looking.

I think I’d like a more vicious looking mole...Like it might bite your finger off if you gave it any sass.

What I'm most interested in is what ball he plays now. Does he stick with TP5X or try something new

He's sticking with the TP5 for now, per a tweet Fooch sent out yesterday.

Does Honma have a presence in USA? In my shop there is no way I’d stock it as it’s just another manufacturer competing with the four other mainstream brands. Having Rose on staff certainly isn’t going to sway that decision

Honda has traditionally targeted a higher market than the 4 other mainstream brands which are geared more toward the mass golf market..

...having an elite PGA Tour player as their endorser is certainly in keeping with that image..

will it result in higher sales?....only time will tell but I can't fault the move..

It seems a lot of people assume it was TM who didnt want Rose anymore, how do we know it was Rose who wanted to move away from TM?

In his tweet he seemed to have a bit of a gripe about his equipment, and from his side he is now a big fish in a very small pond, maybe that's what he wanted, rather than being a medium fish in a big pond

It’s not assumed it was quietly reported that they didn’t renew his contract. TM is having some flow issues. Having to turn off some spigots to help feed the larger veins.

The PGATSS near me has them but that's it that I've seen. Even the boutique fitters in my area who all stock Miura and a couple other Japanese brands, like Epon, don't stock Honma. It's too bad because their irons are so nice. Next to my z745s, the TW747v is my favorite iron in recent years.

Rose leaving TM is a cost-cutting measure on the part of TM as much or more than anything else. Their playing staff was/is so big and such a financial burden on the company that these cuts will continue to happen unless there is a drastic comeback made in the marketplace.

Have seen them in multiple shops. Demo days too.
