Justin Rose to Honma

Recommended Posts

I’m very impressed with many of the posts here...had stopped even checking wrx for a couple years because of all the ignorant troll/bullies who seemed to be convinced that scores were dependent on gear and all hit 300+ yard drives and 200 yard 7 irons...but was surprised at how many wrx’ers now get it...gear is fun and a personal thing and people are quirky but it doesn’t take any real genius to figure out that equipment plays a very small role in overall performance...

This was a fun thread, I’m back wrx, you’ve evolved posters, well done...

I'd make sure not to open any other threads...

lol, right..........that is funny but true

I bet he goes to Titleist ball. If you're playing overpriced irons how could you play anything else?

Honma Tour World line is not overpriced, the ones you're referring to is their BERES line.

Their TWorld line is good and affordable, not that much more expensive than the other OEMs

TW line is so solid and very much competitive with other brands

My bet is the irons were designed for TW and Rory and the rest fitted in. All the efforts to get Tigers irons from nike etc etc and the Rors proto nonsense. Then the putter attention for the red spider the Day got......Rose maybe felt a bit sidelined despite being the more consistent performer ?

Not good for spirit or motivation in the camp. Probably doesn't bother DJ

There's absolutely no way this move was about equipment. The Rose protos were made to the exact shape, specs, and performance he wanted, as were the protos for all the other guys. It was never a situation where he was forced to play a club designed for someone else. And putter attention? Huh? Were they supposed to promote the ARC more when he used that, or the Ardmore 2 after that? I don't understand that comment at all.

Look, it's pretty clear that this was a business decision. Rose likely wanted #1 in the world, DJ/Rory type money and TM was unwilling to pay that. Their endorsement strategy has definitely changed since the divestiture from adidas. Mark King has a past relationship with Rose and wanted to make a big splash for Honma, so he brought in someone with whom he has a prior relationship...and just happens to be one of the best players in the world over the past few seasons.

I wish JR nothing but the best. I hope he gets what he wants out of this deal.

I’m thinking it was more of a business decision on TM part to not resign him and therefore logical that former TM bids now with Honma gets him to come over. Rumor is TM is signing some pros in non traditional roles. Sounds like Fowler is going to be playing their ball. Rose doesn’t fit into the pic if they are signing guys they can market better and signing Rickie to play the bsll is huge

....funny cuz I like rickie but the dude is over rated performance wise......not even close to Rose

True but rose doesn’t move any needles. Rickie despite his lack of wins moves apparel and if he signs with TM for the ball it’s a blow to titleist ball

Rickie only appeals to kids. Rose has broader fan base. And is light years better.

Disagree. Rickie is universally liked. At least down south. Justin Rose ? He’s not hated. But you aren’t seeing anybody saying “ oh man where’s rose at today ... hope he lights it up “. I like the guy. But he doesn’t have a real following at all.

I disagree on both parts. There are and have been plenty of adults wearing puma and dressing like Rickie since he came on tour. Rose has very influence on US markets and I would venture to say he’s not doing as much in the European market compared to a Rory, Rahm, Sergio, Fleetwoof to name a few

late to this thread and I didn't read all 11 pages but JR just made an excellent decision in changing from TM to Honma..

IMHO this is almost an apples to oranges situation as Honmna is in a different class vs TM--ie--Lexus vs Toyota!!

Totally agree.....and he’s well liked up here north of the Mason Dixon line as well.

Serious question to everyone: Why is Honma’s logo a “mole in a hole”?

WTF is that? Is that maybe the most random thing ever? I googled it. Could not figure it out. Any ideas?

Wow, hes going to play Honma drivers, irons, and wedges.

Company spokesman John Kawaja indicated that Rose is expected to play a Honma driver, forged irons and wedges. Rose, 38, is scheduled to start his year at the Desert Classic in Palm Springs, Jan. 17-20. Kawaja said that although the set makeup is not yet confirmed, Rose is under contract to play 10 Honma clubs. He said those clubs are likely to feature versions of models introduced late in 2018 in Japan. That group is expected to include the T//World TW747 driver; a prototype version of the forged cavity back T//World TW747 V in the 4- through 6-iron; and a prototype T//World 747 Justin Rose forged muscleback iron in the 7-iron through 9-iron. Rose also is expected to play custom prototype versions of the T//World TW forged wedges (47, 56 and 60 degrees).

https://www.golfdigest.com/story/justin-rose-signs-with-honma-multi-year-10-club-deal-could-include-driver-irons-wedges

So if 10 clubs likely will play irons and wedges leaving possibility to play TM woods

Rose to continue with TP5 balls. Confirmed.

Don’t blame him. Solid ball choice. With the new one being unveiled with a better cover (previous was dog poop), it’s a win.

So. To be clear. You’re glad he chose to stick with “ dog poop” until the new ball comes out ? Or are we assuming he already has the new ball? I’d hate to think he’s having to play dog poop ....

Ah ha! Touche. The TP5 is a solid ball. I liked the flight, feel, and everything about the ball except for that cover and the alignment aid. Cover was dog poop but, it was overall a great ball.

Hate to break it to you chap, but there is more to the golf world than the States. Over here, close to the country that invented the game, he's a bit of a big deal. Whether it brings Honma more sales or not remains to be seen, but to say he doesn't have a real following is bollocks.
