Have to admit I’m really happy for Rick. I guess for us it’s easy to say that he should have won many more times than he has but unfortunately, to this point his career hasn’t gone that way.

As I get older more than anything I appreciate Rickie for, as far as I can tell, what a good dude he is. Doesn’t seem that anyone has anything bad to say about the man. As an outsider it really seems that he’s just a good man.

Happy for you Rick.

And how many of us are now bored to tears with this crap Super Bowl?? What an incredible let down after this afternoons roller coaster.

Me!

We too - wife and I just too lazy to get up so sitting and perusing our laptops.

Did catch the NFL 100 commercial - was that Singletary that yelled "fumble"?

He yells "FOOTBALL!!!"

That commercial and the Game of Thrones invading Dilly Dilly Land are fighting it out for MVP honors with the punters.

And may I be so bold as to add that nice guys don’t finish last. Rick is filthy rich and he’s marrying one of the most beautiful women on planet earth.

Rickie is the first PGA Tour winner since 1983 with a double bogey and a triple bogey or worse.

He has had 7 54 hole leads in his career and has shot over par in the final round all 7 times.

Rickie Fowler moves to #8 in the OWGR.

Kuchar's finish moves him to #20 and knocks Spieth out of the top 20.

I don't really understand the ruling on Rickies penalty.

If you cannot drop a ball and get it to stay in place of relief, you have to place it. If you the place of nearest relief won't allow the ball to be placed without it moving, you are forced to take full relief into the nearest spot where the ball can be placed correct? How is this any different than that? I get the ball is "in play", but maybe they should write in a rule covering this? Rickie basically never received relief and was penalized twice for it...

Feel very lucky to live during a time where I was able to witness GOAT Brady, Jordan, Jack and Tiger. There may be better that come along but there may not be. I would also include Gretzky and Rice. Today’s win by Rickie has nothing to do with GOAT but it was a feel good win although a struggle.

It was a terrible break for sure but he only got screwed out of 1 stroke after all the melodrama. Announcers making it sound like the worst break ever in the history of golf is a bit over the top. I really hope it doesn’t affect the outcome though.

Agreed. Rule is good, break is bad.

haha rule is good... No

Just FYI. Anybody that has played at that level has had to place a ball on a lie that is dicey. Often times after trying different spots to actually get it to stay still.

I can’t tell you all how many times an official has said to me when I finally found a place to place it

“Okay, the ball is in play”. We all know (or should know) that if it rolls we have to deal with it

I had a few time when I hit it quickly for fear of it rolling again

what's your point doesn't make it a good rule. Usga wants to simplify things and make things more common sense and this is the opposite. No fault of player for ball moving. Guy is on the green and the ball that sat there for 3 min then rolls in water. Sooo common sense simplified would be put the ball back where it was no penalty. If this was the last hole leader up 1 at let's say u.s open or if agusta had water on 18 and this happens and they lose buy 1 it would be a joke.

What’s my point?

The rule is there, deal with it.

The slope is cut low and the ball could roll into the water that you just rolled into when it BARELY rolled over the green.

1) check the shot out, pick your club and shot, and then drop the ball, place. If it looks hairy, better hit it quickly

2) go back to the pitch you just hit and not have to deal with the #1 scenario and hit a straight forward pitch, that you know how the shot responds.

3) or do what he did and get kicked squarely in the balls

Really happy for Fowler. I almost thought he was going to give another one away but he got past the bad shot and bad luck and kept it together while Grace choked. Much more exciting than the Super Bowl.

RG, I would never presume to think I was telling you anything you don’t know. I was always pretty good with the rules, but under the gun I would just space out. I had a really simple issue one year in a big (for me) tournament, and cost myself a couple of strokes. My fellow competitors were no help, and I couldn’t find an official. I think I missed the cut by 22 instead of 20, but it still haunts be almost 25 years later. It makes me understand when a tour player calls for an official for what may seem like an easy ruling. Do you think Rickie just wasn’t thinking clearly? Did you ever have something like that happen?

I really appreciate your posts here!

20/20 hindsight after the ruling is comical. 95% of pros and amateurs would have no clue how to score that and play that RF situation. People coming on here like it's common knowledge, ppppfffff please.....

I absolutely did early in my career. Some of it was stupidly not knowing the rules well enough, and yes, sometimes I would literally have to make myself slow own to make a simple drop correctly due to my brain being scrambled. I am one that would call an official to just not screw up most times.

I’d love to know if Ricky thought about going back to the original shot...he probably would say I sure did, no way I was doing that crap again! I was more surprised when he walked up again on the second dropped shot, but it looked loke it was further down the slope near the higher cut grass

I’m pretty certain I would have thought I was hitting 7 after the second drop.....

As a player your so used to thinking I was hitting 5, drop six, hitting 7.....thinking in the comfort of my sofa

It was pretty confusing as I kept thinking it was hitting six but it didn’t feel right.......hence the rules official conferences!

Delighted Rickie won. Eventually he closed it out well. A+ for demeanour and attitude, it probably made the difference as there were zero signs of panic despite the issues.

I was dreading the potential fall out if he'd let this one go.

Congrats to Ricki.

Glad to see el cheapo Kuchar fall apart.

This Superbowl is terrible.

This Superbowl is terrible.

The only thing that could have made Kuchar's yanked putts and double crosses more entertaining is if his goofball Dad had been caddying for him.

Just watched 5 minutes of Ricky Fowler round highlights on PGA Tour website, and they omitted everything that happened on #11 apart from the final putt, and then didn't show the drive into the rough on #18 and the recovery shot that enabled him to get to a position where he could save par.

Bizarre editing to say the least ...

Well played Ricky anyway !

So if you pull a Couples and your ball stops and then rolls back in the water at the 12 at Augusta you just put it back there? Kewl!
