Are the flippers getting worse?

Has the users who flip equipment and accessories gotten worse in the past year or is it just me?

 

I use to browse constantly to buy, sell or trade. And now, it seems to me, it's just constant flipping of whatever just got released. Starting to suck the fun out of the hunt for a new to me project.

I don't mind flippers IF that means I can get a deal below retail. nothing wrong with someone making an extra buck...

 

the flippers that are buying a limited item and reselling at higher than retail for the purpose of making a buck, that don't have any intention of using (Jordan shoes, especially Jordan Golf shoes). Those are the ones that annoy me.

Is flipping golf equipment here really that big of a racket? Other than those that have access to special pricing and just game the system, making a profit selling here is a hustle I don't have the energy for.

 

To the OP - I personally don't notice and am not bothered by it. It doesn't really affect my BST experience. If it's something there's a market for at a price others are willing to pay, then have at it. If it's within the rules, I have no business telling grown folks what to do with their money.

People do realize that “flipping” is what commerce is, right? Buy something at one price, sell it at a higher price, keep the profit.

Just because people are trying to flip doesn't mean they are successful. The markets shift for various stuff. Tyson Lamb is a good example, his stuff was super hot last year and a flippers' paradise but that market has cooled. Which is great if you're just now discovering him and want to build a collection, go find those guys that thought they'd make a mint but are now just wanting to unload. You might be surprised what kind of an offer on the BST and elsewhere will get accepted.

Then they would be skirting the "personal use" rule. Much like when the BST was flooded with the Ross Nike shoes ads. Which the mods put a stop to. At a certain point users are not using the BST for personal use. Their "side hustle" is breaking the rules set forth by the owners/mods.

I read a post in the jordan thread about how they would rather pay the store the inflated price above retail than the flipper. I have to agree. I have no problem supporting someone who has made an investment in a brick/mortar store or an online presence. Let them make more money because they putting in the work and risk for financial gain... not the flipper.

I guess it's just me....I go to bst forum and scan the first page each day to see if there is anything I am interested in and if so I check it out further.....If nothing I am interested in I move on. Why should flippers effect me at all?

I'd actually love to see a "new" section on the BST for the people buying up all of the Swag covers, Jordan shoes, Scotty headcovers, Lamb Poptops, etc.

 

I'm not anti-commerce, and more power to you if you got in on a limited release and want to make a buck off of those that didn't. But, there's no question that these items aren't stuff that was bought with the intention of personal use, they were purchased with the express intent to flip on the BST.

 

tl:dr separate sections for used gear and new gear would be cool.

Flippers are awesome. Sometimes people can’t test clubs so they buy them here and not 100 in love with them so they sell them right away. I love the flippers with new gear. Save money!!

Wasn't there some KSig 'flipping' a couple years ago and now I assume it's whatever else is a "must have". Like Teslas or Cabbage Patch Kids back in the day.

They're not flipping insulin here so if someone wants to take a punt and go through all that hassle for a few extra dollars, fair play to them.

Seems like a creative solution to a problem - "I wear size X, but this sick sale is only on size Y. Dammit!" But you buy the size Y and sell them nearer to full price, so you can realize your dream of buying those shoes in size X.

 

I wish I were this enterprising. Unfortunately, I don't have the motivation required to invest this much energy into buying golf shoes. (Ugly ones at that.)

I wouldn't mind it if the flipper would prosper; however, they just go broke when they realize their time and effort has value. So, one fades off and another nutcase fills their place.

Doesn’t bother me. I like the Jordan golf shoes because they look like my basketball shoes from high school/college, but not enough to spam click reload to try and buy a pair. Tbh I wouldn’t pay retail for them either, much less flipper prices.

 

Makes me wonder if it is really worth your time, energy, and being viewed as a parasite to maybe clear $100 after paying tax and shipping to get them, then PayPal fees and shipping the other way. Depends on your situation I suppose.
