Most undeserving major winner ever?

Not messing up when others can not close makes you deserving. NY Giants Super Bowl when Bills Norwood missed FG makes Giants deserving. No major win was undeserved

Think I heard make % for a 47 yard FG at that time was around 50%. He had plenty of distance and it didn't miss by much. Hardly a choke and gifted victory to Giants.

The only correct answer. Missourians now have to wait for Brice Garnett or Peter Malnati to win a major. :'(

He did his best to choke as well, but got some of the most fortunate breaks after horrible drives I have ever seen.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

I think he "deserved" to win. He hit the fewest shots, no one played the perfect round, nor does anyone really ever. He was the best player that week and certainly on Sunday. Tiger hit the shots he needed to hit, and to his credit he knew where he could miss. He controlled his emotions better than everyone else.

Which is my point, he hung around and let everyone else fall by the wayside. Does it always work, no, if failed Jack 19 times, but the more you put yourself in contention, the luckier you get I guess.

Perhaps was a little harsh, I'll admit. Apologies if you're reading, whoever it was - you're wrong though.

I don't know why these threads pop up every few months or so. If a player wins, he 'deserves' it. End of story.

But you're right, if TW would have don that final round it would have been acclaimed as one of the rounds of the century. This kind of stupid threads always show that some people have no idea :D

First as William Munny says ‘deserves’ got nothing to do with it.

Second Stewart Cink is a terrible choice. He has won multiple tour events, been on bunch of Ryder Cup teams, I think won WGC event. I know many had Watson as sentimental pick but he should have finished it. Cink did.

This has been a fascinating and enlightening thread.

Maybe the OP or someone can help me out with a question.

Who has the most majors, Tiger or Jack, under this new scoring system?

If we don't count penalty strokes (van de Velde at Carnoustie, Spieth in the water at ANGC, etc.) and we don't count the 18th hole (YE Yang, Watson's miss in 2009 Open, v d Velde again, etc.) and we don't use the old-fashioned "number of strokes thru 72 holes" scoring......

How many majors does each of those guys have, and who's the GOAT? I suppose it could even be someone else, I don't know how this works. Maybe Fowler?

How dare you suggest Fowler when the answer is Weiskopf.

I think Goalby’s win is a big misconception, everyone says DiVincenzo would have won but it would have been a playoff that he was at best 50% to win. Goalby was still at least just as likely to win the playoff anyway. Divincenzo’s error didn’t cost him the win, it cost him a chance to win.

Ok, so Goalby was a 50% likely winner based on his golf. Everyone else mentioned (Lawrie, Yang, etc) were at 100% based on their on-course performance: they had the fewest strokes and “deserved” the win. So I still say Goalby is the obvious answer here.
