I too have started to rock the cardigan look again on the golf course. Love the look and they are so easy to play in. Of course, as I am getting closer and closer to 60, I can easily get away with it!

Man, stumbling back across this thread whilst a foot of snow lies outside is sure a bit a downer whilst I on lunch. This is not a recent picture but this is me on the 8th (the Postage Stamp) at Royal Troon. Believe it or not, this tee shot hit the bottom of the pin on the fly and bounded back to 15 feet. I could have dined out on a hole in one there forever 😂

18th tee Moray Old (during the driest summer ever in Scotland hence the fairway - so much fun playing links courses when they are like that.)

 

Trump International Aberdeen (such a cool course).

Haha, honestly, that day by 18, I was failing.

 

This was my stag weekend (aka bachelor party). We went down to St Andrews. We got in through the ballot and mine and my best mans tee time was 6.40am. Not much sleep but too much alcohol had been had.

 

Amazingly, I played decent enough, shot a 75 but by 18 I was in urgent need for caffeine.

Love it!  I was rewatching my Tivo archive of the entirety of Stenson vs. Phil last night and my wife kept reminding me to let her know when they got to the 8th --- my shot was right where Phil was (I ended up about a rotation away on my birdie, lol).  The wife - well, she found the coffin, then the one in front, then up and . . . down! Never get tired of watching Stenson get it done.

Genuinely think that Royal Troon is underrated when it comes to the premier Scottish courses. Seeing it come somewhere anywhere outside the Top 10 as it seems to do regularly is criminal in my mind. Perfect old style course, eases you in and seems to get harder and harder as you go particularly when you turn into the prevailing wind. The condition of the course as well always seems to be absolutely top notch.

Based on the ones I've played and a lot of what I've read, I agree.  We loved the course and I loved the layout.  Our day was brilliant - early tee time, sunny summer day, warm and almost no breeze until we got to the back and it didn't start picking up until about midway through the back 9, so didn't really see conditions as tough as they could be.  Course was immaculate, holes really interesting - it's one of the courses I remember a lot of shots/holes and I can't say that about all of them from our two trips.  I'd had a rough evening at Prestwick the day before (parred the two most "famous" holes but driver was off the planet) so I committed to 3w only at Royal Troon and the conditions allowed that to work out great.  Disappointing 41 on the outward 9 with two doubles and rebounded with a 39 on the back, but also with a double bogey, so other than those three holes I had a really great day.  The more I hit my 3w great the more my caddie kept trying to talk me into hitting driver, but I held fast!  LOL, my ball flight isn't "Scottish" - on one of the first few holes he looked at me and asked, "did she burn up on re-entry?"  Had a great time.  Best part, I'm standing on the 18th tee, need par to shoot 79, 227 to the Stenson bunker, I figure with the wind no way I can reach it, my caddie says no way I can reach it, still aim left, but hit it to the right and sure enough, unlike Stenson, I'm in it!  Bogey, but I enjoyed being able to talk about mine not stopping short like his and blowing my "Open", haha.  We went back in the evening to take pics and the club something or other recognized us from lunch and gave us an historical tour of the inside of the building - it was fascinating.

Not on the course but these are a few shots at TPC Sawgrass at the end of last October. Could not get a tee time. So we stopped and had a few drinks on the patio overlooking the course. One of the friends I was with had started talking with some random guy in an airport bar a few weeks prior. They began talking golf and my friend mentioned we were going to be near TPC but could not get a tee time. Guy says hold on, makes a phone call supposedly to somebody he knew that works there. He gets off the phone and says you're all set. $50 each to play the main course there. gave my buddy his number and says just call me when you get to town and I will hook you guys up. So we get to Florida and the guy totally ghosts us. No call back and no tee time. 🙄

Well that totally suks. Such a clown. Did you call # he left you? Probably a pizza joint. And most likely he plays tennis.

Love this pic.  I am a member at Moray and the 18th on the Old is an incredible finishing hole. Can be a drive and a wedge or your two best hits depending on the wind.

 

I would say you had a good chance of chasing the drive in the picture through the folk up ahead - the ball ran forever that year!
