A look back at your BEST / WORST purchases in 2019

Best - tie between Cally Apex CF16 irons with Recoil shafts and an Exotics EXS 3/4 wood.

Worst - EXS Hybrid and TM M4 Driver. I will most likely trade the hybrid but just change shafts in the M4.

Worst: TS2 hybrid. Looks sexy and clean, just couldn’t hit it!

Best - Cobra FMax driver......I've only missed a few fairways since I put this in the bag.

Worst - Master Grip Senior golf balls.......duds.

Best: MRC OT iron shafts put into inherited Epon AF-703s. Amazing feel. Love the irons and the shafts.

I take back my comment about the Fuji pro shaft, I put it into my 3 wood instead of my driver and it's a laser off the tee.

Best: Ping G400 SFT, Lajosi L-flange with Stability shaft and Rogue 7W

Not that worst: TEE EXS 3h, I’m not that consistent with it and brought my old 5W back to my bag

Worst: Epic Flash Driver

Best: Artisan putter and going to a full set of AP2's over a mixed set of AP2 and AP3.

Best: Mizuno ST 190 driver, went to X flex shaft

Worst:PING G driver and also trying set of Vokey wedges. Loved the looks of them but performance was terrible for me.

Best- Taylormade V Steel 16.5* that had Aldila ATX tour blue 85s installed, just incredibly versatile for varying trajectories and shapes to fit shot needed. Best fairway I have owned since a Taylormade 200 tour 17* 'Duffy' with TS green 869 Fujikura died after years of faithful service.

Worst: Titleist TS2. 10.5* with Graphite Design GP7s black special edition- performed great during initial testing, once on course and went after it a bit more, results were less than favorable

Best:

Hogan Apex 2003 blades that went straight into the bag and got me career low round in a month.

TM R15. Not special but a good price and nothing has kicked it out. Even head to head at a demo against M5/6. Lucked into a good shaft combo I guess.

Wilson Fybrid 3 and 5w. Phenomenal additions to my long game

TEE xcg5 hybrid. Rocket launcher.

Worst:

Nike sq 3w. It was 10 bucks, and lasted a week

Wilson FG tour m3 5w. Showed up cracked. Oh well.

Best: only club purchase was moving to face-balanced Ping Sigma G Tyne putter. Located it after first price cut. Add in trade-in for old putter and a $30 store coupon, I got it for $110.

Best: Almost brand new Nike Vapor Fly Pro 3 iron with a Fujikura Tour Spec Pro 95 X. Hit my friends that had a different shaft in it and have been looking for one in great shape for a while and finally pulled the trigger on this one and I am so happy I did. Another purchase I am very happy with is my Bettinardi QB6 I can't see this thing leaving my bag anytime soon, almost got knocked out by a X5 but just loved the feel of the betti so much more. Another great purchase was a raw TVD 60º Vokey wedge that on my first round with it I holed out in a green side bunker.

 

Worst: My worst purchase from this year was probably some Nike vapor react 2 NRG Safari shoes. Don't see myself wearing them and can't seem to sell them. Another was a nike method matter putter that I probably paid to much for and can't seem to sell it for $20 less than I bought it for. I guess I learned my lesson about shoes and nike putters. Haha.

Best : Cliqgear 3.0 cart, Callaway X2hot Pro 4w

Worst: Titleist 816h1 hybrid, - head is too big to be useful as a hybrid. Completely outperformed by Adams Pro hybrids that cost 1/4 as much.

Callaway Epic Sz driver - couldn't stop hooking it.

Ping G400 Max - Performance is fine, just not worth the high price tag. I didn't find it any more forgiving overall than my Cobra Ltd or 2006 M1. I actually hit more fairways with the M1 because I can hit a consistent fade with it.

Best: Switched to Bridgestone B X balls. It's pretty windy where I play and they just hold their line so much better and still generate enough spin with the wedges to perform around the greens.

Worst: Got myself a set of Srixon 765's that just didn't work for me. Ball flight was too low and distances were too different to what I was used to. Luckily I didn't sell my gamers so I just switched back to the MP H5's.

Best - My Srixon 585/785 irons, first just being fitted with proper length and lie is a game change on it's own vs OTR. But I hit these so well my irons are slowly becoming the best part of my game.

Honorable mention: Ping G410 Plus. Again a fitted driver makes a different, granted mine is basically an OTR spec'd to me at least I knew it was the best for me. But the shaft may change this winter.

 

Worst: Like 80% of the putters that I bought, putting was by far my worst aspect of my game, lost confidence with my main putter and tried to find easy fixes. Most of these will be sold off this winter.

Dishonorable mention: My Edel E-3, now I like this putter and I'm still planning on playing it but when I originally got it the original fitter put way too much weight in this thing based on the speed of the turf we were putting on. I got this corrected by Dave Edel and will see how it feels this season, so far on carpet much better. But I might have a backup lined up just in case and also for variety.

This is one of the reasons I always get a kick out of this site, guys buying two or even three sets of irons in a season :)

Best - switching to midsize grips. My hands thank me after every range session and round of golf.

Worst - Cobra F8 22* hybrid. Actually like the club, but I think it's the only purchase I made in 2019, to replace both 3h and 4i. I just don't care for the head color, so it may well be replaced. At the time, the price was right.

Worst: Every flow neck putter I bought because I think they look awesome

worst edel putter for 400.00, instant buyers remorse and the putter probably resells for 150 tops. Actually less since I have my initials on it.
