Sad? PR doesn't look sad. And another very popular golfer, far from sad, comes to mind with your description - Phil. After all, his peers did nickname him FIGJAM. You want to be successful in golf, it is you and your own team (equipment sponsor, caddy, fitness, nutritionist, agent, assistant, maybe spouse, travel agent, etc...), it is not being buddies in the locker room. Even the young squad that used to vacation together has grown up and moved on - either that, or they are all afraid of catching what Spieth has, so they avoid him like the plague!

I don't find cheating and then having the stones to not care when you're busted to be an admirable quality.

Or "toughness." Toughness would have been dealing with a DQ and suspension from the Tour. Or expulsion. Going to work in a Cinnabon at the airport and keeping his chin up and taking solace in the fact that life is a journey. That would have been "toughness."

Jon rahm shoots another poor final round, after another low score on the 3rd day.

Guy needs to sort the mental side of his game out or he won't ever live up to his potential, his putting was woeful Sunday as was his wedge play.

And JT was hooking it most the time Sunday, amazing a guy of his talent wasn't able to rectify the problem during the round, very poor.

Brandel said before the guys teed off that players with shorter, quicker swings can have trouble maintaining their tempo day to day. He cited early Tom Watson as a player who had to figure that out (he did). He thought that Jon Rahm was susceptible to the same problem.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.Β  P.G. Wodehouse

He shot 67 which is tied for the second best score of anybody that finished in the top 10 (Bryson and Horschel both shot 65's). He also did it a day after shooting a 61 so of course the old addage about following up a low round with another one. He didn't play poorly.

I too would love to see the Florida swing start at Doral. Such history dating back to 1962 sets golf apart from the rest of sports. However, I think sponsorship money dictates location of "regular" and WGC locations these days. Tradition be damned!! Looks as though post Ryder System, Inc (aka just Ryder) there were sponsorship issues (Genuity, Ford the WGC CA, Inc. ...carousel). However, in 2007 this new WGC "replaced" the Doral tournament and something was lost as it transitioned to WGC status. With the amount of sponsorship money involved in a WGC vs a regular event, sponsors run the show. Cadillac did not renew and Groupo Salinas took the bait. However, they also took the event into their backyard in Mexico City. The WGC killed the 40 years of Doral tournament tradition for the $$. Same thing that happened to the "World Series" at Firestone. The tour got FedEx to pour even more money and they "replace" the St. Jude AND Firestone for them. What happens when FedEx decides to not renew? Same thing happened to the Western Open... Sponsors at this level want the event in their backyard. HSBC is not going to sponsor an event held in the States. These big money events come and go (see the old Tam O'Shanter), however it is a shame that they take the sites and history of the events and move on once the money dries up...

Don't forget that in the cases of both Doral and the Western Open, big-name architects were brought in to "toughen up" the courses, and supposedly prevent them from becoming obsolete in the face of ever-improving technology. By and large, the pros absolutely loathed the changes, and the courses quickly fell out of favor. The top stars still hold plenty of sway in terms of how appealing a given design is, and outside of the 4 majors, more or less determine if big events will continue to be played at these venues.

No doubt. However, I am sure that we would still have a tournament at Doral if the WGC didn't come in and displace the "regular" tour stop in the first place. I have to think at a lot of the old Doral tournament infrastructure and planning committees were disbanded once the WGC structure came in. A large part in running a tournament involves the volunteers and local groups that provide the glue. Once you loose that...

WGCs will go to the highest bidder and with that the venue with change. The Mexico championship will undoubtedly move once Groupon Salinas is no longer the sponsor.

There's one thing for sure. If Koepka and Reed ever are in the final group on a Sunday, that will be must see TV.

And the post you are mentioning here, is what prompted me to ask the question, who marks their ball 100% in the same exact spot every single time? And when I mean exact, I mean exact. It's almost impossible, unless you want the ball to move when you remove your marker.

Β

But apparently there is someone on this board who knows, 100%, they always put the ball back EXACTLY where it was after they picked up after marking.
