The problem is, and has been for some time, that so many people already pay for the right to see the tournament rounds as it is for Thursday and Friday. Moving to something you can get to OTA now on the weekends of the majors (in the US, at least) to a PPV model would be a good way to shoot yourself right in the foot. I have and continue to be able to put up with the commercials and arguably less than stellar presentation at times if I can get it for free over the air or as part of the cable package that I'm already paying for. I don't care if there are endless options of how to view it, camera angles to watch, no commercials, no/limited announcers, etc. I won't pay for it. Paying for it just sets a terrible precedent going forward for those who are broadcasting the event and it's all but guaranteed they would continue to raise the price year over year until they find that sweet spot like they did the the PGA Tour Live subscription.

Its OTA now and I barely watch. Mostly its the LPGA when its on, never the Senior Tour and the PGA Tour in bigger events with good fields and even then its only sporadic. The exception would be The Open where I can sit down in the morning with coffee, watch a few hours and still have the day ahead of me. Despite being an avid golfer I find golf in pretty boring to watch on tv.

Theoretically yeah, but only for the Masters and then maybe the two opens depending on the course at the time, so for all of them, it'd have to be a package deal.

The catch I think to the Majors going PPV is the Masters far outpaces the rest of the events in TV ratings, so as long as it stays free, kinda hard for the others to push that model. And ANGC doesn't really seem interested in trying to milk out max revenue so hard to see them changing from a model thats working.

Sure, maybe not right now given everything is closed, but I would rather be spending my weekends on the golf course than in front of the TV. I have limited time to get out and enjoy the summer as it is given everything else going on in my life. I can record the broadcast, watch the parts I want, not see any commercials and interviews with various people I don't care about, and still get to enjoy doing other things. So no, even OTA I'm not watching much golf.

I could have and should have premised this a different way, such as, "What if PPV is the ONLY way the Majors and RC could/would be played and watched this season?" And they are the only tournaments.

(suspend a little reality here of how tournament broadcasting/streaming/hacks are currently done too. shouldn't be too difficult, this is the internet.)

The only interests at hand are the players playing and you getting to watch.

What if the playing format for one or both Opens was changed a bit also, say the cut after two or three days of stroke play is 64 or even 32 players, and then it goes to match play?

What if they only played for the title and trophy? Just for the luv of the game and wanting to win.

Now, check this out, Joey chestnuts record is 74 hot dogs in...10 minutes! So he could easily eat a Hot dog per golf shot.

 

I like this Open/hot dog idea. Maybe you have to try to eat a hot dog per hole. Every hole you eat a Hot dog drops a shot from your score.

 

Id put my money on Rahmbo with a an average golf score of 68 and 12 hot dogs for a combined 56!

No worries, no it’s a monthly/annual subscription depending on your contract, etc. Sky do it in a rather bizarre way, and to be able to get the Sky Sports in HD together with broadband internet there is a massive jump up in price so I think it works out at about £80 a month or something like that so pretty much $100 a month as things stand.
