Ping 2021 Irons

Hello - Does anyone know if the 710's will be replaced in 2021?

I don't think anyone expects that.

Ping-logo-283444624.jpeg 410LST 9º (TourX) RogueST 3D (ADDI 6X) [OMG what?], 425 3w 14.5º (TourX), 430 3h 19º & 4 iCross (HZRDUS Red 6.0), i230 5-U, G4 54º, GFP 59º (DART105F4). 2021 Fetch (BGT Tour Black).

"Golf is just a dance with a stick, and a ball tells you how good a dancer you are."  LCP150mm in your fairway should be a full-time rule.

So nothing on the 710's until 2022?

2022 at the earliest.  With the 700 series, they have recently gone three years because if what they develop isn't better, they'll wait an additional year.  The 710s are quite good if you can look at the size.  I found that they're a bit too large and will be moving on to another iron soon. But they're phenomenal.  Very long and forgiving.

Thank you for the feedback and great point.  Also considering the Srixon ZX4's.  But hear the 710's are long and forgiving...and playing less this makes a difference.  Stay safe

Ironically, I'm moving TO the ZX4's.  Srixon is so underrated, it's not funny.

Same finish issue with all ping irons basically since g30s. The hydropearl finish wears pretty quickly and makes irons look way worse condition than they are after a short time period. Purely a cosmetic issue, ping irons hold the test of time better than most.

I am coming from Gs. All the pics of used i500s look like my Gs, so I was not seeing the finish issue, haha

I am also guessing these will feel better than my Gs? So the click sound or "not up to my Mizuno blades" feel is a non issue for me too? haha

Interesting. Was just at my shop and the manager said new 500 series irons this year and nothing on the 200’s until next year.

Most are saying no i210 replacement but there will be a blueprint and i500 replacement. Then there’s a comment or two about an i210 replacement coming in the summer. Info is very inconsistent.

It would be unusual for Ping to release 3 iron sets in cycle.  The iBlade has been out a long time, i500 sales have probably slowed, but i210's are still winning on tour and have like a 3-4 month backlog.

At one point, there was speculation that the i59 would merge the iBlade and i Series irons.  If the i59 "leaked" picture is accurate, looks more like perhaps the iBlade series could be morphing into the i500 series?

So all this timeframe makes sense.  However, COVID delays seem to have the Ping releases out of whack, so who knows.

haha... and to make my personal head spin even more... that other website released their most wanted today. They didn't include the i500 in this year's testing. So I have no idea how they stack up vs the MP20-HMB

I had both HMB and i500 4 irons. For me, the HMB launched easier and felt much softer, I did not see any distance gains. The i500 was a rocket launcher. If I remember the HMB marketing correctly, they are actually not really "player's distance" irons. They actually dialed the center of the face back to make them more consistent all across the face. They didn't want center strikes to go a mile. HMB is just an MP iron that is meant to launch a bit easier and be a tad more forgiving than the MMC. Most reviews on HMB ding them for not being long and that is because they were not meant to be.  i500 is meant to go high and far.

i500 made for a great compromise between a driving iron, and an iron that could actually be played off the deck or on a long par 3. The HMB 4 irons was a little too much like just a regular 4 iron for me. I would probably pick up another PING 500 series long iron if they update it and make it a tad less clanky on off-center hits.

great stuff @halfsumo

Here’s my Arccos numbers with Ping G 5-PW and Crossover 4i (listed as 4h)

I think the only thing that looks out of whack is my five iron and 9i?

I randomly only need to hit that about twice a summer and there’s probably a shank in there so the data is not correct? That’s 205-210 club

No idea how 9i is same as 8?

given that, you’d steer to Mizuno because distance isn’t a concern?

if I picked without a fitting, I’m blindly go i500 retro lofts?

With the new sticks, I want something that flies higher and is more consistent.

I dunno, if it were me, I would just try not to over-think it and let the fitter do their thing. Actually, if it were me, I would not get fit and just buy both sets and then sell the one that wasn't as good for me, but I have problems.

Don't want this thread to get too far off track, though.

Ha. Agreed on the derail.

had a bad fitting before. Decided it’s on the consumer to be educated vs trusting someone who sees you hit balls once for an hour

‘You need a 5 crossover to fill the gap better between 6 iron and 4 crossover. Maybe weaken your G and P a degree or so and the gaps would be more uniform between G and S as well as G and P and 9.
