Maxfli Tour balls

Knowing that the Maxfli and Vice are made in the same factory and the performance specs in everyone's testing is almost exact is pretty telling. I think Maxfli (Dicks) have priced themselves out of the market.

Unless you ran out and need them tomorrow... convenience plays (and pays) a part in some peoples choices.

I guess it depends on your location.  If I couldn't wait for shipping and just wanted 1 dozen balls, it would be much more convenient for me to grab a box of Vice balls from any number of Walmart or Target stores that are closer to me than a DSG/GG or between my home and the golf course I'm heading towards.  No bulk discount that way but still cheaper than the Maxfli if you are just getting 1 dozen.  Getting 2 dozen Ksigs from Costco for $27.99 would be about the same level of convenience as going to a DSG/GG but that's a ball that many people have strong opinions on one way or the other.

I tried to like the Maxfli Tours, but for me there is no comparison to the Snell MTB - X or other premium balls.

Maxfli tour is well worth $35/dz. Still a great deal in my opinion. Quality ball.

If I am going to pay $35/dz, I will buy the Callaway ERC Soft and/or the Vice Pro Plus for the exact same price. Both of those have outperformed the Maxfli Tour for me this year.

Imo the Vice Pro soft is better than any of those for me anyway. I think that's the best ball vice makes.

It seems like there is always an opportunity to buy top tier balls for $30-$35 a dozen.

Right now a golfer can get 2022 Callaway Chrome Soft Truvius from CPO for $31 a dozen, RBC has the xxStar Tour Srixons for $35 a dozen.

Almost always there is an opportunity to purchase great balls for less but the buyer has to be looking for the deal and ready to buy when it comes up.  An example are the CPO balls, Callaway only releases them from time to time and when they do they go fast.

At $35 it’s in direct competition with the ZStar. Reading the description on the website it’s almost word for word with the Wilson Triad, another Foremost product.

Maltby MXU 23*
Maltby Tricept TU 5 Iron

I play the ERC and the Maxfli and like them both.  The soft feel of the ERC is nice this time of year. But,  for me,  the Maxfli gives a little better results around the green.

At the end of 2021 I began playing the 2022 Tour ball, A few months later I changed to the Tour X and that became my ball for the remainder of the year. I've been testing the new Takomo 301cb's recently, finding that they launch much higher than I desire, I started to look for a lower flight ball, Fortunately the announcement of the new Tour S came at the perfect time.

I played the new Tour S this past week in a 3 way comparison against the Titleist AVX and the Vice Pro Soft. I found the Tour S and Pro Soft to be very comparable to each other, almost indistinguishable. The AVX seems to be a little bit better than the other two, but I'm not sure the advantage of that ball is worth the price premium over the Maxfli or Vice. I'm going to keep playing around with the Pro Soft and Tour S to see if one begins to perform better than the other. But being they are from the same factory, the difference between them could be null.

I've played the Maxfli Tour not S and the pro soft. I'd take pro soft anyday. For me it just feels better plus it has more greenside spin/control for me

I saw the new Tours in store and wasn’t a fan of the new alignment line. I like the older design better.

I’m the opposite, but I never used the line for alignment.

The old alignment line was too big and too similar to a range ball stripe, which at times caused some confusion on the course.

I don’t really use it for alignment, either. I just liked the overall design with the line above and below, I thought it made the ball stand out.

My understanding was that the Tour S is intended to be an AVX-fighter: softish, lower launch, lower spin in most cases. The Titleist AVX advertising appears to show that they achieve that mostly by making the second layer very soft, which should reduce spin, but also make it launch higher, which it doesn’t.

It’s certainly possible that the Titleist secret sauce recipe remains safe, and the Tour S is much closer to the Vice Soft or a B’stone BRX.

I tested the Tour S quite a bit last week and I find it very comparable to the Callaway Chrome Soft, not the AVX.  In fact, I found the ball flight, distance, and spin to be almost identical to the CS.  I actually liked the feel of the Tour S a little better and will be using it for the foreseeable future.

Just Checked in on DSG site to see if there were any reviews or price changes on the tour balls.  Now the old model and the new are listed at "2 for $70".  So no more 2 for $60 on the previous year models at least for now.  Pretty weird to not offer any added discount on past models

That is weird, you'd think they'd be on extra sale to get rid of them for the new models.  The 4 pack is still $120.

The AVX is a low spin ball and I didn't find this to be true with the Tour S.  I need to check the height again to see if it is flying lower than the CS or the AVX.  In the round that I played, I used the Tour S for 9 holes and the Chrome Soft for the back 9 and I really didn't not notice any difference in ball height; however, it didn't seem to spin quite as much as the CS when hitting into the green. Did not release a lot, just a little more.  I really like putting with it.  The feedback is very good off my putter.  I'll be in Palm Springs the end of February and I plan on doing more on course testing with it because Maxfli has been really good with their quality control on the Tour balls.

I want to like these balls, I really do, but the new 2023 version is still giving me the same ballooning problems off the driver as the previous version. Just too much spin off the big stick. Tried other balls with different results (especially the AVX). Gotta blame the arrow here. I think it's a great ball overall especially considering the price, but they just aren't working for me anymore.

Based on all the stats and testing of the ball, spin is in the range of a Pro V or X. What is your angle of attack?

You are killing me (with confusion). I just traded in my remaining Maxfli Tour stash for chrome soft as I need a bit more spin. How is chipping/pitching spin between CS, Tour S, and Tour Response?

You won't go wrong with the CS.  It is still my preferred choice for distance and spin with my swing speed.  I'm going to test the Tour S again when I go to Palm Springs later this month.  Don't care for the TR for putting.  Strange feel.  I'd give CS the edge over the TR for distance as well.
