Maxfli Tour balls

Just another two piece firmer ball. 

 

The Revolution One is a 2-piece golf ball with a Surlyn cover which would be a firmer more durable cover than the Maxfli Tour ball. The Maxfli Tour ball is a 3-piece ball with a softer cast Urethane cover for increase spin around the greens. The Revolution One is geared more for distance.

Will be interesting to see the S in testing. Every test I've seen shows equal or almost equal performance to any premium Titleist ball.

I would think the Tour S would be similar to a Q Star Tour.

I wouldn't hold your breath on the BOGO... usually that starts in December and that's when I buy 4 or 6 boxes to stock up for the next year...

When the 2021's came out, I stocked up on the 2019's for two for $40.

This fall, they didn't have any discounts, and raised the price of the 4 pack by $20.

Picked up a box of the new tours today.  The guy said they didnt release until Jan 3 and they are covered up in the back saying do not release until release date.  Then while I was in the check out line he came up to me with a box and said "actually they just released but we only have the new tours, not the X or the S yet."  

Website will allow you to order the S and X models with same day delivery in my area but they are 39.99 plus 9.99 shipping sooooo thats pointless since you could just buy a new box of ProV's for that same price.

 

So far they look and feel identical to the 2021 tours by appearance and off the putter.  Probably play 9 with them tomorrow but doubt ill be able to tell much of difference.  Had to grab a box to find out though.

Does the box identify/say anywhere how many dimples?  Doesn't say on site, but does identify the cover having a tetrahedron dimple pattern.

Cant find any info on number of dimples on the box.  All I see is exactly what you mentioned, the "tetrahedron style dimple pattern".  Cant see any difference in size of dimples or anything compared to older/current model.

When they raised the prices I was looking into Vice Pro.  Like $1.50 +/- less per doz. than the Maxfli Tour but you have to order 5 doz for that price and pay shipping.  Comes out to be more $$ per doz.  This time of year I constantly get $20 off $100 texts so can still get and stock up on the 4 doz. pack for $25/dozen but has to be in store purchase at either DSG or GG.  If the price of the Maxfli increase more I will be making the move to Vice or, if the bulk discount comes back, to Snell.

 

To be honest, past 2 years I've really improved my short game to the point where spin around the green from 20 to 50 yds in is really important to me otherwise I would be using the Cut Red.  The improvements in my short game has brought my HCP down almost 5 pts. just in short game.  The Cut Red is probably one of the best 2 piece balls on the market and they're only $12.99/doz.  The Cut Blue and Gray are suspect, but the Red is really good.  If not the Cut Red, then the Wilson Zip for the price.

The Vice are made in the same Foremost factory and compression specs are also exact to the Maxfli. At this point, you are essentially buying the same ball with Vice and Maxfli so find the cheapest deal.

So… what is a tetrahedron dimple pattern?

 

A quick google search states a tetrahedron is a 3D shape consisting of 4 triangular sides. I can’t picture how that can be represented on the surface of a golf ball.

First image is a tetrahedron, can see it as part of the dimple design in the 2nd image (circled area).

The conforming ball list shows Tour S with 336 dimples. (Tour & Tour X with 318).

At that price point, unless I get the $20 off $100 + Dicks Bucks I'm opting for either Vice or Snell.  Vice Pro or Pro Plus are $28.99/doz when you buy 5 dozen.  I have 4 dozen Maxfli Tour left.  Without a deal they will be the last 4 dozen.  DSG has a history of effing up a good thing.

For some reason I can see the Green ball better ... once I use my final stash of Tours  prob will go Oncore or Vice

 

I used Snell Black Yellow until they were rocked by the supply issues & probably would not have left just bc I loved that ball & didn't need to look anywhere

 

Anyway I think the Maxfli Tour is as good as any ball out there ... the cost & ease of  availability has been great ... if that changes I guess I'll move on

 

I do find it strange that Vice hasn't seemed to be affected by rising costs supply issue etc

Umm, that's last years balls which were 105 before they moved them up to 119

People "complaining" about the price I think have a point in that a big part of the attraction to these balls was the price.

I think we can look forward to price increases on all balls in 2023, especially cast urethane. In 2022 Maxfli Tours were 2dozen for $60, less with coupons or special deals. Pro V2’s were $50 a dozen. This year Maxfli is $70 for 2 dozen. I think you can count on Pro V1’s being $55.

The first attraction was the price.  It lured alot of people into trying them and realizing they are good balls.  They went from 2/50 to 2/60 to 2/70 in a span of 18 months.  In the beginning of 2021 you can get the Maxfli Tour for 2/$50.  That's a 40% increase in price.  ProV1's price increases are in the 13%-16% range and they pay out Millions to tour pros to play them for free.  Same for TP5's and Chrome.  Vice hasn't increased their prices in past year but are approximately 10% higher from end of 2020.   I understand costs go up, etc., however, it seems that DSG wants to bring the price of these up to the big name guys.  I can get the Vice at $6 cheaper per dozen.  When Snell gets their bulk discounts back I can get the Snell for $5 cheaper per dozen.  

I live in an area where it costs approximately $$65 - $75 per round to play on a muni.  Golf is expensive.  Cost of golf balls, gloves, tees, clubs, etc is important to me.
