I am SO tired of the pun-filled happy talk from the CBS crew on early coverage

Not judging by the hot women these guys are married to.  Jason Dufner was unlucky, then lucky and now unlucky.  He'll bounce back.

A decade ago, these guys only had to be witty and smart for 2, maybe 3 hrs.  Now they have to come up with crap to say for 6+ hours.  I'd be spouting "authentic frontier gibberish" too.

A Blazing Saddles reference... Didn't see that coming.

Are you like me... just SICK of that mindless pablum that serves as golf commentary?  There's the not-the-least-bit-witty Nick Faldo jamming in every pun he can muster, followed by Frank Nobilo who attempts to "top" him with even more nonsense and the pathetically subservient Dottie Pepper who, apparently, is contractually obligated to cough up a courtesy laugh at these sad, desperate and woefully UNFUNNY time-wasters.  If I'm a director in the truck and I hear this relentless palaver, I'm pulling a Frank Chirkinian and screaming to one and all: "Shut the HELL up!"  How anyone can find this low-rent form of humor amusing while I'm trying to actually watch golf is completely beyond me.

It seems complicated. There is no way these people are this lame in person as the collar of faux-optimism golf telecasts require would be lifted. They are as close to Stepford-like people as can be and that makes a lot of low energy people comfortable. In the real world, people are pretty critical of others and things...that's how we get evaluated at our jobs and discern the types of things we like/dislike. But tune in to a golf telecast and there is no candor...period. Paul Azinger has been incredibly disappointing with his enuch-inspired delivery...makes Lanny Wadkins look like Sid Vicious. It sucks as bad as Jim Nantz chasing Verne Lundquists 'Yes Sir!' moment. Nothing is less creative other than CSPAN possibly.

I say bring back Feherty and especially Gary McCord.  Lose Dottie pepper and find Judy Rankin.

I don’t find pepper to be subservient as much as passive aggressive.   I could also vote for our own @RDD and David Duval.

but for real , let’s figure out how to reanimate Peter Alliss .... hands down my all time favorite announcer.  His whit is unmatched.

I don’t disagree, however if I have one criticism of Dottie it’s that she constantly tries to make situations more dramatic than reality.

Probably directed to do so.  Not sure how much latitude the announcers are given.  The lead announcers probably can say whatever they want within limits of taste.  On course and other support announcers maybe not so much.

Now that would be a first.  A commentator over dramatizing the play.  Baseball and Golf are extremely boring most of the time.  Announcers have to be overly enthusiastic or everyone falls asleep.

I really don't pay much attention to what the announcers say unless they say something truly stupid.  It's like listening to my wife talk... I only hear 10% of what she says unless my name is mentioned at the beginning of the sentence.

Yes.  Autocorrect strikes again.  He was a large guy.  Doubt anything he had could be described as whit.

True. My issue with Dottie isn’t her golf iq.  It’s very high.  I just can’t shake that she reminds me so much of the gym teacher aunt my wife has.   If a male family member says it.  It’s bunk.  But if she says it.  Well. It’s gospel.  Old sage advice.

probably unfair of me.  I hope she’s a lovely person.

Dottie has always had a hard edge to her personality.  It made her a tough competitor, but not so great as an announcer.

The good news is that if her golf commentary career ends at some point she has a promising future as a TV weather presenter with that particular skill.

Ha, now I have Ian Baker Finch's voice in my head commenting on the ups and downs of Duff-Daddy's love life.  "Oooh, got a bit unlucky there"  "Ah, fortuitous turn of events there", and so on.

Maybe you should stick to Pro Bowling Tour telecasts.

Need to drop in on the broadcasters'-bashing thread in regards to the recent CBS telecast of the Genesis Invite.

This is an industry I have worked in and still have ties.....the job is not actually that easy, but whatever, I absolutely enjoyed some of the Saturday/Sunday subtle pokes many of the named announcers on this thread made and wondered if anybody else caught them???

Obviously, it is a Tour stop sponsored by the  Korean Car Co.   But there were a multitude of slide-ins that referenced one of my top 5 favorite Prog. Rock bands  - Genesis!   Specifically, w/o recalling who said it....I heard "You're Taking It all too Hard", Max "Home By the Sea", and others a few beers made me forget....😛

p.s....Baseball telecasts.....harder to talk thru than golf as there is even more waiting for action without the luxury of cutting away to another hole/shot.  There is PGA Tour Radio for those whom have subscripts which I was listening to on the finish while chipping practice yesterday here in 70 degrees AZ sun!

This is brilliant, lol. If I could add Larry Merchant and Dan Dierdorf to your programmed list (even though they are both retired, thank bejeebus), I would be pretty content with the rest.

Golf is stuck in the 1950s.  So pleasant and fake.  Why do you think shorts aren't allowed,  oh my its not proper young laddy! It's just the old guard, when they die off or move along the newer younger commentators will change things.  Oh but then people won't like that either, oh I miss how polite everyone was on TV...

Can't figure how to like my own posts

I watch a lot of old tv shows.  Every show, the man and wife sleep in separate beds.  It's wonder how anyone had kids back then.  Must have been a lot of sex in cars.  That's it!!  We can blame the car culture for the population boom after The War.
